DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
I weigh 151 so this is normal for any new Kawi I've bought.
So I just send it off to FC and let them work their magic. My suspension is awesome now.
I've always been happy with their work
They didn’t list them as changes for ‘22, but a friend that’s internal at kawi filled me in on a lot of it. technically they’re “updates” so they didn’t have to list them as “changes” for 2022
I'm 151, and on my 21 I backed the rear spring off as far as I could. Still couldn't get the sag I needed. FC put a lighter spring on it.
is the same as the 19-22 four fifty clutch cover ?
The cam lobes on my bike are facing an odd direction when at TDC. exhaust points at 11 o’clock and intake points at 3 o’clock. The dots line up on the surface of the head too. I’m used to the previous gen models and I expected the lobe’s orientation to be the same or similar, but this is definitely off.
What fork and shock spring rates are you all running, and how much do you weigh?
Seems that the racetech calculator is a bit off, it’s saying stock fork spring rate is good for people up to 210lbs and fairly fast. Kris Keefer is also saying this on his website and his podcasts, but then I see some posts here that people around 200lbs had to go up spring rates.
I’m trying to figure out what rates I should buy.
I’m 190lbs and I’m on the stock fork springs and went up one rate on the shock. Been working great for me after a revalve. Stock was too stiff for my liking and a lot of it had to do with the valving IMO. I tried softer springs with stock valving and it was OK but once I got it valved I went with the springs I’m on now at the tuners recommendation and it’s been killer.
If you’re in Tahoe I’d recommend Marc Uhlan (M21 suspension) he’s in Reno and has my stuff pretty dialed.
Pit Row
Yeah go for it. The bike has great reviews for riders that hv slow reflexes, no cornering talent, ovr weight - fat. But that helps when you bounce off the ground . great handling just ask Mitches riders.
That sounds about right on these bikes. That’s how the 450 looked at least.
Thanks for the info. I read some dramatically different opinions saying the bike feels soft for 175lbs average rider, than others saying the bike feels stiff enough for 200lbs fast rider, and everything in between.
Personally, I notice a stiffer setup stock as well, and I'm a little over 220lbs. Idk why some of these bikes feel soft and other stiff, but mine feels stiffer than the 2017 YZ450f I sold a year ago.
I really like this bike from initial ride, no track time yet though.
Manual says you can run conventional, semi-synth, or full synthetic 10w-40. What are you guys running, what does this bike like??
I get the oil change kit off Rocky Mountain and use the Kawasaki synthetic 10-40. It’s like $17 for everything you need.
Stock valving seems stiff for sure. On my 2022 KTM 250 SX, I put a new spring on the rear and pumped up the forks for my weight, and this Kawi feels stiffer stock.
Who is this bike set up for stock? Adult Pros, and B riders over 210lbs? Race tech says for me to drop a rate in the fork, and I'm 225lbs/B rider!! I actually like it as is, but I'm wondering why it's so stiff??
Does anyone have a picture of the cam lobe direction. I know the cams are offset but I am worried and suspect a cam gear may have spun and unfortunately service manual does not show an image of the cam lobe directions, just shows the timing marks. Thanks in advance
Mine just spun. I don’t have a pic of the direction, but I could not get it timed. There was also some light contact on overlap when turning crank by hand. When I pulled them off, and tried to align cam hole with lobe hole, it looks of about 1.5-2 teeth, so my EX lobe was almost at the 12 o’clock position
@ that weight you should be two rates stiffer front and rear. Riding in the wrong part of the stroke will make it feel too stiff.
