Where is Craig’s skill at in 450?

your question doesn’t make much sense to me. Craig was 250 champ last year and is now a 10-15 450 guy. Nothing unusual about what Anstie is doing other then he had a great day I’d say.

I just find it odd/weird that we have a potential 250 Champ that was hiding out in the 450 class the last few years. That is all.

Glad it was just a rumor and hope he can keep it up as everyone was thinking Hunter would just walk the dog on the East.

They dont need to tear it down to measure it.

AMA have a thing that they screw into the cylinder to check displacement, they did a bunch of '450's'  in the AMA supermoto.

On the compression stroke with the plug out it will displace 250cc of air.  It literally took them 5 minutes per bike.

Obviously that doesnt confirm the legality of the parts, but it takes away the 'having a big one in ' argument.

That is a terrible way to check for a cheater bike. Follow along.  Say you have a engine with  xxmm bore and xx stroke. Just using...

That is a terrible way to check for a cheater bike.

Follow along.  Say you have a engine with  xxmm bore and xx stroke.

Just using random numbers here, You put in a 5 or 10mm bigger piston.

Say You increase rod length X mm to take up the space to achieve 250cc. Or a longer rod with smaller crank throws or pin position to avoid valve interference.

While it is in fact 250cc, the configuration is completely different.

The only way to be accurate is tear it down as you can't see the rod and crank just by pulling the head.

If you don't think people will go to that level of work, ever seen a big bore or stroker V8 except the #1 cylinder?

I’m pretty sure that you can change bore and stroke as long as you don’t go over the max displacement for the class. At least you used to be able to as Yamaha used to sell long rod kits through GYTR. And yes, this was during the production rule period.

As long as it’s 250cc or less, and you use the proper engine cases, you can do almost anything that you want to get there.

Funny that competition and Racing has these things called rulebooks that deter what people are pretty sure of.

If you pick any year and look to the section called Engine Specifications,  which is right above Fuel Specifications for most years, it specifically states Bore and Stroke have to be the same as the homologated model.

Kinda hard for it to be less direct than that.

Simple fact is Firepower bikes are good!! Roczon won on it and now Anstie is running up front !

A long rod doesn't change the stroke,  just where the piston starts and ends.   Not the distance.

There are all kinds of potential 250 champs in the 450 class. He’s just the one that went backwards to the lites class.

I thought that the kit ran a crankshaft with a longer stroke also. Appears that I was wrong. I remember that Larry Ward and the Noleen team ran the kit I was thinking about.

You sure it wasn’t HRC Honda protesting and not star ? HRC Honda team isn’t close to the firepower team and when firepower wanted to sign Roczen they asked HRC Honda for factory parts and bonus winning money for Roczen and HRC refused . Maybe they didn’t like seeing the privateer Honda coming out on top on both time qualifying sessions .

correct,  and for reference, a long rod kit does not change the measurement of stroke in a bike,  unless it also comes with a crank with the pin in a different place,

there were popular with 94 ish yz250, and also had a barrel spacer,  it was about port timing not engine size,

It also affects dwell time and to some degree reduces side loading of the piston.

Anstie was fast +-10 yrs ago or more as a rookie in 250 SX, crashed and broke his leg, out for a while.  Baring this injury and set back, would be 1 of the Top 5 450 riders now.  Dont forget Max won both motos 1-1 at MXDN in England (approx 4,5 years ago.)

He is fast, talented, and a very likeable guy.  Need more guys like Max. Great podium speech too!

Longer stroke = shorter rod (or std rod and shorter compression height piston).

There was no protest lodged against Anstie or Firepower Honda. I just checked with AMA officials. They also never heard anything about a potential protest until they saw it floating around on social media today.

However, Anstie's team did get a warning for not directly bringing the bike to impound after the race (I think HRC got the same warning for Hunter's bike).

There’s been plenty of big bores in the 125/250 class over the years, but nobody that could podium.

I’ve heard Honda was running a different piston in their 125 back in the day, but it was torn down when Dymond won and it was legal.

If I remember correctly, the Noleen kit ran a longer rod and the same bore and stroke.  They were changing the duration that the piston spent at the top of the stroke.
