BEST ADVICE. EVER. Thanks!
No problem— I’m more than just a pretty face
I also sand the paint /ano off the clutch side ,especially if it’s knurled. It doesn’t take very much glue at all. Just a fine mist all around the bar and a very quick spritz in the grip. You may be using too much. We’ve been using the 3M 90 for over 2 race seasons and have yet to have a failure ( spinning grip, lol) probably have done 60-70 sets
+1 for clear spray paint followed by inner and outer wire wraps.

Okay, I scrubbed the crap out of the bar, sanded it, and used a ton of contact cleaner. I then put a lot of Renthal grip glue on the bar, making sure to lift up the grip as I put it on and not just push the glue across the bar, so it actually got between the grip and the bar. Waited 24 hours, wired it, and it's on there really good now.
Maybe the bar just was not clean enough for the 3M spray, I will try that one more time next time I need new grips. I also think the knurled Renthal bars might work better with the glue, as it fills it in. Not sure, though.
self-etching spray primer
Permatex High Tack gasket sealant in either the can with the brush which is easier to apply or in the spray can but that shit will get everywhere and be permanent.

Been using good old aquanet hair spray on all my dirtbike grips for 15+ years. Contact cleaner let dry a minute then a light spray, grips slide on easy and stay great after a few minutes.
I put a nickel inside of each grip to help protect the bar from packing through the end of the grip.
Best tip in the thread so far.
Weatherstripping adhesive
Man Renthal glue is a waste of money, never recommend it. Love the Kevlar grips tho
Woah, a fellow Philly rider. Cheers mate.
Grip glue is a pain in the ass to apply and remove
+1 Clear spray paint and safety wire.
Holds strong and you can easily remove the grip without damage with compressed air after the wire is removed.
Dollar store hair spray Mega hold.
I use compressed air to get grips on and then just safety wire but I use .023 mig wire. Never used glue or anything and never had a problem. I actually have to wire these up later…I do 3 on a grip.
Pit Row
I’ve used clear paint on protaper grips and it’ll actually eat at the grip.
Yeah, I have reverted to renthal grip glue. I use gloves and make sure it’s evenly spread on the bar and then inside the grip. No issues.
Starting fluid, helps them go on then sticks once dry
Golf club tape and solvent. It does take a few hrs to set up but they become rock solid and come off super easily and very clean.
