Just like title states.
Things you would like to see changed in SMX after first broadcast and live event.
For me, first and foremost is the name of the events being held: SuperMotoCross...
I enjoy Carmicheal as a commentator, but the other guy has to go.. i just cant take him speaking over rc like he has any value to the sport...... His accent is driving me insane after hearing it for so many years its just flat out annoying, we are in america, the events are in america, get an american!!!
The other guy is Leigh Diffey, an Australian who started his announcing career in motocross and went on to World Superbike, World Rally, Formula One, Dakar, Nascar, Indycar, Olympics. We're lucky we have him. I think Ricky is at his best with Leigh.
diffy is great
RC has improved, Blair is great, just goes to show whoever has more wins & or championships may not neccessarily be better in the booth.
different :-
change the starting grid & award those who finish better in heat races not just the 1st pick but maybe 6/7 gates ahead of the next 6/7 gates then the rest
LIke I said in the other thread:
My biggest gripe with the broadcast is that the people who are supposed to be calling the race, don’t call the race…they talk about pretty much everything but the race-unless something big happens. “I talked to-whomever-in the pits and…”…”I was watching him really close in practice and…” “at dinner last night we were talking about…” “he’s come a long way from the farm in the Midwest, and his family put everything on the line to get him here…” pretty much anything but what is actually happening on the track…
is the racing so boring that they can’t just talk about the racing happening on the screen? Call it as though they are talking to someone that can’t actually see what is happening. Do that, with some genuine enthusiasm, and I think we’d all stop complaining about commentators.
That's because thy have so much corporate crap they are pushing. Almost every inch of the screen is covered with logo's except for the wheels and dirt, now the dirt is too. Wonderful.

Agree with Titan1. Call the race, monitor lap times, see who’s on the move.
They seem to start from the premise that the racing gets boring, so they prepare a bunch of filler.
Call the race. There’s plenty going on to fill the broadcast.
Same as the last 5 years.... dump screetch Christian. She is awful.
The new "Leader lines" pointing to the riders is asinine.
I like Diffey/Carmichael, think they do a good job.
Get rid of Blair and insert JT. JT was awesome in the outdoors!!!!
I am sure the STAR Suzuki team has an attachment to her.
I caught that too.... that feature kept ****ing up all night long. It blows.
Eliminate the 250 main event logo on the start that caused Forkner crash.
Actually I like the start overlay. It’s a nice touch for non-moto viewers knowing which class is on the track.
Diffy is horrible, anyone would be a improvement over him.
I mentioned this in my A1 thread, and I think it's really important for the fans and growth of the sport. When at the stadium, their rider standings format/graphics are horrible. A lot of people who attend races don't know the riders by appearance, and there was no way to easily identify them on the big screen. So all night I was hearing, "who's the guy on the red bike with turquoise boots?". "Who's the guy on the yellow bike leading the LCQ?" etc, etc.
If they would have a nice vertical display of 1-10th place then it would be an easy quick reference for people to identify the riders during the race. They have this on the TV broadcast, but not at the stadium. Look how much real estate they had to work with:
Diffy brings an international voice to a sport that needs international credibility to grow it. He compliments RC and highlights that supercross has tons of international racers and sponsors. So we should only let racers from the United States Of America race? You claimed America, since when is the US the only part of America that counts. “Get an American”, get a life man.
Not to whine, but if I could change anything, it might be the fact that the track ruts out so quickly that they have to have the National Guard on standby to grade it after a group five riders blast through a corner.
It's either the bikes, or the dirt. Fix one of them.
Easy solution. Go back to 2 strokes.
Make Tomac drag a cinder block behind his bike?
This is my big gripe also. Malin doesn't talk about this crap and most other motorsports broadcasts don't get off in the ditch like this either. There was one point in the broadcast the other night where RC was blathering on and didn't even call the pass that happened right before our eyes until after the fact. Save the back story crap about Ken out catching some tasty waves or speculating over whether Ferrandis veganism gives him a "slow burn" for interviews and puff pieces.
Pit Row
I would like more sound from the floor. I would like to hear the bikes more.
Also every bike has a cam like F1?
I think Leigh is great and for the amount of time she is on camera and just saying/asking what she is told to I think Will is awesome as well. As for RC... he has gone from a D to a C+ in my book but I still cringe a lot listening to him.
They obviously don't have this perfected yet but I like where they are going with it.
I will throw in some positives. The camera crew did a good job. The spider cam was either used properly or wasn't used at all. I couldn't tell, which was a good thing. Usually they are either way too far away from the riders to where it looks like ants or a top down which is just garbage. I also thought the camera crew stayed on a lot of the action. So good job!
One negative which has been beat to death is just quit trying to adhere to a "live" tv air time. We are in the modern time of streaming and internet so take the time to fix the track if needed. The internet stream can just be longer than normal. Or start the race at 6:30 but show it "live" at 7 for people watching it on TV. They can edit in commercials as needed with the extra 30 minute delay. Leave the internet stream the way it is.
Also, on that note, since it is a live stream, show some highlights of the previous races or practices during the DOWNTIME. We don't want to look at the analysts while they talk. Make them talk while we are watching a hot qualifying lap or talk about how certain events/ passes were set up in the previous races.
EDIT: And certainly do NOT show replays of previous races during the live race. Only the live race should be shown while it is active.
2nd EDIT: During the downtime, make the spidercam do laps of the track so we can see the terrain between races.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the coverage. I don't know if something changed with peacock, but the broadcast looked to be in higher definition than in years past; better quality for sure.
I like the idea of having the spider cam do laps during the downtime. It would also be cool to see highlights from the Supercross futures race; I think there needs to be more focus on those guys, because in a lot of ways futures is was 125cc used to be.
I will also say I was really surprised at how much Rickey improved from last year. Last year there were some times where he was constantly stepping on himself, mixing up words etc., but he seemed way more polished last night.
California flavored post for sure.
The rider intros on the Megatron at A1, specifically the part where the riders were trying to hype up the crowd, and dancing was absolutely cringe worthy.
Maybe a little off topic, but the absolutely insufferable press conferences droning on and on about "bike this, bike that, did you change parts, i heard the new bike is good" If I have to hear one more person who cant jump a double talk about "bike changes" I'm not going to be able to go on.
I feel bad watching the athletes sit through this when they want some dinner and are clad in cold sweaty gear. ML and MXA did well and you can tell that the other riders seem to like them.
I wish Diffie would say "A1" more.
The name "Supermotardocross" screams no clue broadcasting network. I think every announcer has been fine in the past 30 years that I've been watching. Other than the name, make displacement rules fair again for the 96421568434677884336843th time.
this reply was made with love!
Funny. I thought Ricky regressed this week.
So many times he'd start a sentence, mess up, and then just re-start the sentence from the beginning. Ricky offers almost zero insight and struggles with the English language. Why does he get to keep that job? Listening to all the guest analysts in motocross last year, showed how many better options are out there.
