If you don’t complete the main event should you be allowed to switch to east coast for the championship? I say yes.
To watch Pierce Brown and Forkner potentially ruin their championship hopes in less than a lap after working and preparing for last 4 months sucks for them and their team.
Hanny did it in 04
I thought there was a rule change after that so you couldn't. I think once you start the night show on one coast you are committed for the season.
Maybe I am wrong, have to see if I can find that.
Yep....once you start the evening program on your designated region you are not able to race the other region.
Well I just think for the two riders affected by those crashes last night and not even making it around a lap, that sucks. Wish they could heal up, sign up for east and try again.
Nichols didn't make 1 main event lap last year. Same for Jeremy Martin a few years ago I think. SX is a cruel mistress....

Yes, they changed it after Hanny
And if I remember, Hanny was allowed to race a different coast, but not count towards the championship? Not sure what year that was, but I think when he was in YOT.
Both started the night program. They can't switch
So they should get a do over and another chance because they screwed up, so what about the east coast guys? so they dont get a do over ? You pick the coast and then you ride it , non of this mulligan shit. Better deal would be get rid of the east/west and make them run the complete season.
Changing rules to benefit injury prone riders won’t make them less injury prone.
The rule that needs to change is the whole regional thing. The top 5 were separated by over ten seconds after 4 minutes of racing, over 29 seconds between the top 10 at the halfway point. There’s great talent in the 250 class, but it’s diluted by half. The 250 guys are pros, groomed for years before hit the big show. It’s not a sideshow class.
I agree. I wish there was a 450 main, 250 main, and a B main of privateers that can run whatever they want and have that B main be regional or something while making 250's the same as 450's. Getting the respect they deserve. Oh I'm a little 250 biased, love riding those bikes. Way more fun than 450's in my opinion.
I’m not a forkner fan per se but they need to make an exemption for him.
Why make an exception to him? Because he's had a rough go the last couple of years? He not only won his heat, he started on the main event. Next year, new opportunity.
Yep he could always step up and race 450s if he’s bored
Good call. Just a bummer to lose a title contender so quick
Should have to complete a lap of the main event to not be eligible to change coasts. We’ve seen too many guys have to sit out the entirety of supercross because of a crash in a heat qualifier or even the opening lap of the main at A1
I support the switch. Especially if you don’t even make it a lap.
I think there are a couple names that the AMA would bend over backwards to accommodate if they were in the same situation as Austin. Sadly for him, he’s not one of them.
Pit Row
So a west coast guy gets a mulligan but an east coast guy just has to suck it up? As much as it sucks, it's racing and people get hurt.
Well if a east coast rider got hurt at a practice track the same day as A1 he would still be able to recover and race where the west coast rider is just screwed out of a sx season because he crashed in a heat race
I guess it's tough. I see the logic but then there are so many that guys could exploit the rule.
Not feeling comfortable in timed qualifying? Act sick or injured and switch your coast. Risky.
The correlation isn't date specific, it's round specific. A1 = Houston...A1 ≠ practice track on January 7.
I think is dumb and unfair. If an east guy crash himself out in the same fashion as Forkner, he wouldn't be able to "switch" to west coast. They are already 3-4 races in the championship so what's the point?
....and what happens when a East Coast rider crashes out of round one? He can't switch to the West because the West would a good few round in already.
How would deal with that?
75% or more riders would sign up west coast?
Pick a coast and commit. Until we get rid of this regional crap and treat 250 riders like the true pros they are.
If you crash out of A1 in 450 you probably aren't winning a title either. Frankly with both the guys being discussed here they would both likely crash out of at least 1 east coast round too.
The issue is that this rule only works 1 way. Guys who signed up to East on the schedule, who do the same would not get the same do-over.
Rule is right.
Not to mention the privateers racing east coast who would be shoved out due to somebody moving over from west to east.
Definitely not fair to them.
The whole coast should have to stop and wait for them to heal. God people are fucking delusional. Forkner and Brown would eat shit on east coast too
Mitch could enter all 4 riders West and see how qualifying and the first 15 laps of the main goes before declaring who rides east/west. Two of his guys would see "East" on their pit boards and suffer mysterious mechanical DNFs on the last lap.
It can be harsh in practice, but I think the current rule is fair. If you start the night show your season has started, proceed accordingly.
