It is so nice to see so many people over 40 riding. I decided to buy my first mx for my 40th b-day this last year. I come from a long back ground of freestyle bmx and snowboarding. Never ridden mx before. Just through a parking lot on a friends 250. Not tracks, not nothing. Just went for it and got a 2017 kx250f. Always wanted to, never had the time or money. Now I'm all grown up and can do what I want. Yep. But I am having a hard time at it. I'm smaller, but not too small for this bike, just never done it before. I take some lessons and try to ride often. But I am so scared with how much power this bike has...but I ride. And I take my time. I have always wanted to do this and try it but I'm sort of stuck in that fear mode at times. As a beginner a 250 is big and I'll have to grow into all it has to offer.
Mainly I am afraid that I will get in others ways and cause a wreck. Sometimes I still get a little whiskey and have to just listen and pull the clutch, squeeze my legs, and let up when I hear her rev. Some times I hop lines in corners through ruts and try my best to hold my line. Most times I'm just too scared to even get on the pro track and try. Most times I have to stop somewhere off the track and rest I have myself so worked up and arm pumped out. I have good friends that help and I couldn't ask for better people around me. But I get scared. I do show up alone most days I ride and just hop on and do drills if I'm too afraid or alone to ride a track. My main goal is to just have fun with it. I would like to race one day with women, even if I come in last, so long as I had fun and finished is all I'm hoping for. I'm a total new-b. This bike and activity has motivated me to work out more, stay in shape, focus, and keep pushing myself to learn new things. Who knows, keep trying and I may get good in a few years! Thanks for the inspiration old folks!
Not sure what the vintage situation is in Colorado. Here in So Cal the vintage clubs are the way to go for riders that want to be healthy to get to work the next day. All of them have modern bike classes and women’s classes. The nice thing is they are racing/riding on vintage friendly tracks. Tracks that on your modern bike would be very easy for you to learn on. The other great thing is the majority of the riders really watch out for the well being of others and are very cautious if a slower rider is out on the track.
Keep us posted on how you are doing....best of luck

Just the body seems to fall apart, not the mind!.
Funny, two things come to mind....
1. I don't know of anyone even near 70 who rides in my area of the U.K. too cold, damp and wet to make it that far, arthritis just loves the U.K.
2. All of the user names bar one I don't know on the first page and have not seen post in the last few years!.
Hope they are still riding somewhere. Keep up the good work guys and how about some more 40+ pictures!.
Never too old to ride!
I’m 44 and it’s just a number... you are NOT too old to ride
Follow up in this thread when I posted at 48 years old. Still at it.
Malvern MX Ohio 60+ Intermediate two years ago
Elsinore last year (61 yrs old) same bike
Such a cool thread. all you boys who were posting in this thread 4+ years ago its time to update!
Bout to turn 61, still riding
Here is a picture of my racing/riding buddy and I , we are both 58 , raced 14 MX races in 2022
The vet classes are the biggest classes in local racing. It’s great for us old guys but doesn’t bode well for the future of the sport.
I’m 57, still race MX and started Flat Track racing 4 years ago. Had a left hip replacement 14 months ago.
photo’s from last weekend.
Huh? What are ya new!! I’m 60 and try and race a couple 3 - 4 times a month, unless I’m injured. Most of the guys I race against still race every weekend. You don’t stop racing when you get old. You get old when you stop racing. I quit for 19 yrs after breaking my neck @ 21 - Biggest mistake of my life. Get a bike and ride, it’s just as fun as you remember
Pit Row
50 here, still riding weekends, some track time but mostly enduro / desert now.
After few few bad injuries in years past, no racing and staying away from trying those bigger jumps these days.
otherwise good to go! Riding is an incredible therapist as well!
46 here. I turned to vintage moto. For me it’s way more fun and the tracks are tame enough that I feel comfortable pushing myself.
My dad is about to turn 70 and he’s racing vintage moto everywhere. He’s been interviewed by Jamie “Darkside” Guida a couple times about Diamond Dons vintage national
Been off for a few years but definitely was still sending it like this mid 40s and hope to be back again any day. Get a bike and have some fun.
Fast or slow, we love moto.
Pushing 55- there are a ton of grey haired pot bellied old men who freakin haul the mail
41 here and still ride Moto regularly and a couple races per year.
42 in Feb, just cant replace it
Nope not a single person.
eventually, everyone wrecks
First weekend in December competing at the Thies Compund in eastern Kansas on a 1983 CR250.
58 yrs old. Just open practice days. If I’m off work on the weekend, I’m riding. Can’t get enough of it.
I’m 35, been riding since I was 15. Cool to know I might have more more years of moto ahead of me than behind me.
