The engine looks fantastic...it should be extremely powerful due to the intake and the offset crank. I am very, very skeptical at the exhaust loop thing with respect to overheating the shock. I am also very skeptical of the intake with respect to dust, dirt, and water ingestion and if you take a digger into powder or sand...will it fill the airbox with said debris?

Cool bike, props to Yamaha for coming up with something so different people will buy it just to be different....a chip off the Honda block of 2 pipes, aluminum frames, blah blah blah.

Just got back from the Yamaha regional dealer show.

Thought this was pretty interesting and shows the signs of the time!

Yamaha's cutting production on the TTRs. There will be no 2010 TTRs OR PW50s being made. They will be produced for 2011 only. This will not only cut back their costs, but will also help the dealer clear out old inventory. ( I'm sitting on a 2006 PW50!)

They also cut back on a few sport bikes and pushed release dates until January so that gives more time for the dealers to get rid of old stock.

Love the innovation. Obviously won't be buying one anytime soon, but still nice to see someone doing something different.

I thought the 6K I dropped for my new YZ250 was a lot... :-/

It looks like they might have a nice heat shield between the 'tornado' bit of the pipe and the shock reservoir. Should be OK.

Looking at another pic, it looks like the tornado bit is completely enclosed, and shouldn't radiate any heat towards the shock.

Pretty crazy that the manufactures are asking so much for dirtbikes now, I cant justify another $12 000 on a dirt bike

Rebuilding my 08 CRF450 for sure!

That's the TVA for you (VAT for the English speaking)
Even back in the mid 80's a dist bike cost almost twice as much in France than in the US.
You guys should start another revolution and get the guillotine out of storage...

Definitely looks great! But does it actually work better? The mass centralization seems like a good idea, but all the weight has been moved back. Does the geometry and suspension account for that or will it take them a year or two to sort it out? The engine changes ought to enable them to make plenty of power! Why so tall and heavy?

It's cool that your pipe won't be getting dinged up. These are some drastic changes, I would wait until 2011 to buy one, let everyone else work the bugs out.

The mass centralization ideas are exactly what the 4 sroke mx bikes need and Yamaha seems to have figured it out. As did they account for the changes? Looks like they did by lengthning the fork 10mm going to 22mm offset clamps and aas for the weight if it's centalized I doubt you'll even feel it. On the durability side I think this bike should last a little longer (top end wise) as the offset crank allows for equal downward pressure not just to one side like before reducing piston rock.......bigger gas tank might be a wee bit of a problem but I don't see why this won't be one of the best 450's ever produced based on the ideas and forward thinking I've always thought the 4 stroke bike needed very different chassis engineering to make them work not just borrowed ideas from previous 2 stroke design

As with any new bike, there are bugs that are going to get worked out. Im excited to see what the magazines think. The whole rear exhaust actually makes more sense to me...more effiecient? Probably, but still, this thing is going to be a killer to work on like Pat327 said
