If you claim: “My commitment to free speech extends even to not banning the account following my plane, even though that is a direct personal safety risk,” Musk said on Twitter on November 6, 2022."

Then banning it shows your commitment to free speech.

Had he not said that, it would be less of a story. Having made that statement though; he called himself out.

Agreed,  But,  at the end of the day , at that point he did not own the company. It is easier to tell someone else what you think they should do,  when you have no liability for their actions. I think he quickly realized his social media company was indeed a content moderation company and might be held liable especially when it had been brought to their attention. 

It is a complex topic, that said worrying about a what one clown says, and protections of free speech content moderation for political gain, I think are two different things. 

I am not worried about moderating a someone for harassment like material or things that are clearly in violation of existing law, child pornography, inciting violence, or generally being a nuisance or drowning out others right to legitimate free speech.  etc.  These are not generally things protected by free speech.   The problem is when you allow for content moderation with the intended purpose of political gain. That is where the "Threats to Democracy"  or a nations sovereignty are at risk. Someone like Sweeney, posting live doxing, for personal benefit, is not something common sense tells you needs to be protected under the first amendment.

Similarly when you have say a non liberal speaker going to a college to talk about their views, they should be allowed to talk without threats of violence, or disruptive protests threatening violence.. You have the right to disagree, but not the right to silence.

With many of these platforms, they have been silencing political opposition. The silencing of say other egregious acts is not really the problem, here.    Although some would portend it is, maybe a slippery slope argument,  but hardly what the real 1st amendment protections relating to internet moderations of political views are.

So really 2 issues, one is political content moderation, the other is the other stuff.   Lets not conflate the two.     As it has been said,  you have the right to free speech, but you can't yell fire in a movie theater.

I have no arguments with what you are saying. I'm only pointing out that he is very clearly displaying his commitment to free speech with this example among others.

Politics is not an area restricted to elected positions.

Musk very much politics for himself and does and will continue to moderate to meet his ends; which is his right.

Well things change. He may have realized by allowing it to happen it's a precedent for others to do the same to other people. It's just a dem distraction issue from the real problems.

So wait, a guy following a car carrying his son, blocks car gets out onto the hood of his car. I guess his security got out to confront the guy who retreated to his car. 

Is that correct? or are we missing something?  He then sort of doxes the guy, posting the plate number. But of course it wasn't in real time. 

I'm sure he knows who the guy is, he probably went down the hall and talked to one of the many ex intelligence FBI guys Still floating around at Twitter. I'm sure if he wanted to he could easily have sent some of his boys to go have a little talk with him.  problem is that would be explicitly illegal potentially causing more trouble over some Antifa clown. Hyundai guy could easily be caught charges pressed, and the guy will just get released only to end up suing Musk. It's a messed up world and Musk should know it. Better to just dox the clown and leave it at that.

Plate appears to not be a real plate or a temporary plate. according to posts. Who knows if that is true though. 

 Strangely enough there were 4 college kids killed recently and the Police are looking for a White Hyundai. So maybe Elon will help crack the case. nothing to see here. 

It does seem like he is canceling many accounts of journalists at Twitter, so I wonder what is going on there. It's his private company though so I guess he can do as he pleases.

He suspended the jet tracker account for posting information which per Twitter rules, was considered a "physical safety violation' then he put out a Tweet to 120+ million people asking who the person was along with a picture of a license plate essentially putting that person in the very same situation.

I would assume security for his son is carrying, but as soon as they got out Mr Hyundai, made a run back into his car sped off etc. Perhaps security had already made the decision to secure the kid, get out of there, just in case Hyundai guy had company.  You can see the reflection of the security guy in the video. He is wearing what looks like tactical style garb.   

My take lil x, the asset was secure and the video was taken by security team after the event had initially taken place. Security guy must have asked a question, followed by no I'm not,  followed by yea, pretty sure gotcha. 

Oh btw figured out why others had accounts suspended they were linking to accounts showing live tracking. So it looks like he had enough of their harassment under the guise of free speech.

Does everyone really think this is a good thing? Considering it is a company that a lot of people seem to think can determine the outcome of a federal election with a couple of quick simple clicks of a delete button?

I remember watching 3 pallets get unloaded in chicago from Illinois block and brick. I built an addition for them so I know them personally. Asked their driver what works goin on and he just said their for an interior project. Saw one other driver the next day said the same thing. Never saw a project started and those bricks were used for everything but laying brick. Every random set of pallets were 2-3 pallets only. Only info I could get out of the office a few months later was yeah those weren't ordered by contractors but private intrest groups for renovations.

This could be its own thread but linking it to your comment about how he's playing them is as good a place as any.  In all reality, from a 40,000 ft view, what Elon has really done is purchase a crime scene.  Make no mistake, a lot of people are pooping their britches over it and he is playing them like a Stradivarius.  I prefer the term playing with them like a cat playing with a mouse (or in this case, a rat because, well just because...)  The flipping out and melting down is soooo much fun to watch.  Funny how the ones with something to hide are the ones doing the flipping and melting.

He suspended the jet tracker account for posting information which per Twitter rules, was considered a "physical safety violation' then he put out a Tweet to 120+ million people asking who the person was along with a picture of a license plate essentially putting that person in the very same situation. 

Doxing a person for having different views is different than posting a pic of a criminal act and asking help identifying the criminal. Same as the police do.

Can't imagine you having a ring door camera that gets a pic of the person that broke into your house and you NOT posting it to the nextdoor app. Even if to help your neighbors keep an eye out so they don't get burgled.
