I haven’t been up close and personal with one of the new Austrian 2 stroke but all it takes is look at any of the new Austrian bikes and they scream quality kit and finish. With that said I thought the same about 2023 Honda CRF250F which I bought. Maybe not quite as slick as a KTM but the Honda is no slouch.

My concern with the Austrian 2 strokes was price and lead time. I didn’t want to spend that much money even though it wouldn’t have changed my life style any, just didn’t want to spend that much. Also didn’t want to wait. When I first looked into an Austrian 2 stroke I could have put a deposit down but didn’t know what the final price would have been.

Houston Texas is a big place. If I had to guess In a few months a near new 2023 KTM 2 stroke will show up on Facebook for sale and can be bought with out having to pay dealer fees etc. Somebody will buy one and need to get rid of it.

60:1 will run richer than 50:1.

Thanks guys I’ll start at 50:1 today. First ride today, moto only but I’ll get some single track in this weekend

300SX, I don’t know why but just not comfortable running 60:1. I”m running 50:1 Amsoil dominator with 33% C12 with 90 non Ethanol. Trying to get around 95 octane. Only have 4 hrs on the bike.. First time I rode the bike, I did not even use the green/ aggressive map #2. Yesterday I rode the bike at a sand track on Green/Map2. If felt like the best jetted bike I have ever ridden, just no hesitation from crack of throttle to sign off.. this bike is a rocket… I need more time to really get a feel for the chassis….not sure if it’s me or the bike, but seems to tire me out quicker than my 350, just getting back into riding after a month off, so it could be me… As others have stated, appears these new frames/ chassis may take a while to settle in? Does anyone else feel like the shift lever came installed 1 spline too low? When I compare the shifter, to my 350 , in the neutral position, it is below the top of the foot peg, lower than my 350, I did have some issues with 2nd-3rd up shift, possibly due to this.

50:1 is leaner air fuel mixture then 60:1. Leaner air fuel mixtures create lean bogs and hanging throttle not leaner fuel/oil mixtures.

Nice debut race for the new 300, passed 8 450’s on it. Second day on it was the race and the more I ride it the more I like it vs my 21. However I’m liking it more because of the chassis, I’m definitely wanting a harder hit down low outta the motor so third picks up quicker in tight corners. For reference in this video that inside in the back I’m making all my passes on I’m in second gear, last weekend on my twisted development 300 I was able to hit those in third and it would pull it. I’m on the green map and even went to the vented number plate. It’s damn close though and aside from the very small but noticeable difference in roll on power I actually think it pulls harder than the built motor once they get to the meat of the power.

707, that's an awesome vid. Thanks for sharing. Your tight cornering skills worked great on your secret corner. Ha! That just makes me miss racing so much. Once, in practice, I broke my bottoming cone on my CR 500, and my friend loaned me his SX 360 so I could race. Your bike reminds me of his sound wise. I remember hopping on it first moto and wandering how in the heck am I going to be able to race a bike I'd never even ridden before. Luckily, my Honda had such atrocious forks so I felt right at home on his weird bike. 😆

Shifter definitely came to low. My skid plate wasn’t installed correctly also, the two front bolts missed the threaded section of the plate. Starter wire zip tie was in the way.

My skid plate was missing one of the threaded inserts also. I thought about reporting it to the dealer but wasn't sure if they would do anything.

My first Moto, first lap I couldn’t figure out why I didn’t like the bike, everything felt weird. On the second lap I determined the shifter was what was up. It’s crazy how something like that can throw everything off to me. I went one spline up, went back out and loved everything about it. I prefer the feel of the chassis over the old one, way more precise. I don’t want to bother with mixing so I run t2, even at 40:1 it felt better than the first dealer tank of 60:1. I’ve used the white map for a lap and it’s way too tame for my likings. I’d actually prefer something more aggressive than the green map, once pc make a shorty I’ll try that to get more hit sooner.

Mine was missing both. The dealer installs them and they are tricky. I put some grease on the aluminum spacers and they glide right in. I had to order 2 of them, the dealer must’ve tossed them, when they tried to install them. There are m6 bolts on the holes and painted black with the frame, so it was weird.

A shorter silencer will give you more top end, not bottom. I have the FMF 2.1 Ti silencer which is a few inches longer than stock and sounds way better, IMO. Better bottom end than the stock one.

They had to have started with the rears. It’s impossible to get the front bolts in, if you start with the rears.
The rears with the inserts are a crazy tight fit, but once on, it fits fine.

Just picked my son up the new 125. I'm seeing tons of guys getting their 300's but very few have the 125 yet. Just wondering if anyone is noticing a bog or cutting out at the top of the revs on the bigger bores? Obviously they're not revved out quite as much as the 125's but worth asking.

The 125 is awesome in every way except it cuts out bad at the top of the rev range (to a point it's unsafe to hit jumps). Seemed like a powervalve issue at first. All the way from idle thru mid range it sounds great, then right as you should be getting into the powerband she just signs off and starts sputtering. Tried to reset the powervalve limits using the little "wake up" tool that came with it. That seemed to clean it up a tad but it's still there.

Have a call in to KTM already but was just wondering if anyone else has experienced anything like it on the new bikes.
So what you a describing is identical to what my young boy is experiencing on his tc125. He would go into a whoop section at a local track and just as he'd get into the second hit the bike bogged/cut bad on him. He said it was worse on the green map(I'm still not sure which is lean and which is rich map). I got on the bike and after I was able to be aggressive on the throttle in a fast section of the track I felt it to. I tried switching the gas to 25percent vp race gas and still the same. Did the TPS sensor end up working for you? Thanks

Negative. Shorty is for bottom end.

I talked to Danny LaPort at the track yesterday about silencer lengths on these bikes. He told me on FMFs dyno they gained more power across the powerband with a longer silencer than the bikes come with. I have a factory fatty and 2.1 Ti silencer coming for my bike

Those black painted bolts are on all the bikes from the factory. The xc/xcf get removed by the dealer and replaced with the unpainted ones.

Ok second day at the moto track on the bike. I think I’m selling my 350. This 300 is to good

Yeah, I think some of the guys in back doing the PDI on these bikes, don’t realize there’s even a bolt in there. At least that’s what I think happened with mine.

Well… I suppose I had it wrong. Lol
I do know that the hard enduro guys prefer the longer silencers, so I was under the impression that it was to get better bottom end. But in fact it is to smooth out the power.
Had it all wrong…

You and me both, I always found that interesting that those guys run the longer silencers.

I wondered if they weren’t just going for smooth power all over. Not sure lol!

Lol I was like damn, all these years I’ve been wrong🤣 I rode my house track today, completely different conditions than my race weekend with deep loam and ruts. Still loving every second of this thing!

I would like to see FmF”s or any pipe/ silencer manufacturers dyno sheets for these new bikes…I wonder if the Enduro guys have noise decibel restrictions? Thus the longer silencer?

Longer silencer softens the hit. It helps the rear hook up on slick surfaces. Pipe length affects where in the rpm range you get the most help from the pipe. A longer pipe gives more torque at lower rpm. A shorter pipe gives more power up top.

Look at how big a 150tpi bike pipe is compared to a 125 sx. The silencer affects how fast gas can get out but most of the exhaust pressure wave reflection that basically turbocharges a 2 stroke (and sets the powerband) is happening in the pipe.

You got it backwards. Long silencer for more top end, shorty for more bottom. The long silencer increase exhaust velocity which makes the scavenging better and in turn pulls more clean air/fuel into the cylinder making more power up top. Look at shifter kart setups where top end is all that’s important, all long silencers.

Sounds like the power delivery of the xc and sx are totally the same, just different tranny.

Did they figure anything out about the fuel delivery issues? Someone said they got 30 miles to a tank on one which seems absurd.

I wrote that long pipe improves low end torque not long silencer. Long silencer reduces the hit.

Seems like the fuel pickup isn’t as big of an issue as thought. The SX tank is .3g smaller. Oversized tanks are going to sell like hotcakes
