Just trying to do my best Wanders/Hopper/Cooksey imitation, no review or formal fact checking like the good old days when journalism was a respected means of providing/obtaining information. We all should miss Walter Cronkite - I am sure he is rolling over in his grave these years. "Click Bait" is the formal means of journalism prostitution!

That rumor was floating around the pits at the Ironman GNCC when I was there. Not sure on how true it is though.

Would they let him race XC2 being a previous 450 Motocross champ?

The MX Series isn't specifically listed in the rules but they do rule out champs from other series and make them race XC1...

From the rule book:

Former GNCC, AMA National Enduro, AMA National Hare & Hound, EnduroXcross, SCORE, Best-In-The-Desert (BITD) or WORCS overall national champions in the past 4 years are not eligible for the XC2 or XC3 class.

Yup, you do not remember me but we spoke before your race....I complemented you on being a good moderator! Seriously, my Christmas block parties are by happenstance, filled with guys like Tony George , Bill Simpson (RIP), Rico Abreu and kingpins in the drag racing industry. Seriously, these guys have a genuine interest in two wheel racing so they like to converse/exchange information with me on two wheel topics ....or maybe they just want to get away from their wives...ha!
I watched you race...you may want to stick with MX...just kidding you did great!

I watched you race...you may want to stick with MX...just kidding you did great!
I will be back next year with a vengeance! I stayed on the lead lap and that was about the only positive thing I can recount from the race. I did dislocate three ribs and fracture one at the beginning of lap three, not my best idea...

30+2 a lot different than 3hrs of pure hell racing on beat out courses that aren't prepped or watered. Given his age and the difference in skills factored in with the young competition in that class I'd say he'll have his hands full if this is true.

Agreed. Just kinda curious cause the XC2 is supposed to be a "feeder" class and ZachO is certainly not a newbie to off road. I would argue a 450 Motocross Championship is more closely related to GNCC racing than a BITD Championship.

I wish they'd put an age limit on the XC2 class, been very few full XC1 rows since the XC2 class came about.

That was never his issue. His back can’t handle the steep transitions of the rythyms in SX and the whoops

He raced xc1 a couple years ago and didn’t far too well. XC2 racers are bad men. He would have his hands full

Seems pretty clear motocross and sx are not listed. It’s a very specific list. It doesn’t have a caveat for other series.

I saw Zach at the 2013 ISDE in Sardinia.

He ended up with 5th in class, the US Trophy (?) Team he was in got 2nd, and, yes he won the final Moto in his class . That was to be expected, what with his Moto experience and the blokes in front of him in the class intent on Not f**king up.

The nature of the Sardinian terrain meant that there was not much on the way of nasty, difficult "Enduro Tests", I think all were 'cross tests' which were really in his ballpark . Every time I saw him, he was pinned. Just as all the front runners were. It always stuns me how quick those blokes are, no matter how many times you see them.

If he did another one, I've missed it. I was lucky enough to get to quite a few Tests at the same time as he did. Even then, he was nothing but a true gentleman to all around him ( and he certainly got a Lot of attention ). A truly good bloke.

That he's doing Offroad again, at a high level, well, it shows how much he loves riding. Great stuff! I hope his back holds up, if it does, he might just be a 'stayer', like Mike Brown.Cool

He finished on the podium in XC2 back in 2013 on his Geico Honda. He finished 29th overall (7th in XC1)in 2020. He also battled with Kaliub Russell (and won) this year for the overall in the morning.

Zach would fare perfectly fine racing the GNCC series. He’d be a podium threat (in XC2) right off the bat and probably be battling for wins in no time
