I posted it on here and got mostly blasted...
Why are Graham Hancock’s observations/theories not taken more seriously in academic circles?
Unsubstantiated. Misleading. Falsely based, is that enough.
He is not a purposefully bad person and candidly a small percentage of what he says may yet be proved to be right, but a much larger percentage is wrong (or at least unsupported by archaeological or robust scientific evidence). For example, he sees box-like structures under the sea and thinks its a city, well there are similar geological rock formations nearby, there aren’t any signs of life in this lost ‘city,’ like tools left behind, but somehow because it looks like structures it must be a city. I guess it depends what you believe in, I don’t have a problem saying the giants built the causeway in Northern island to young kids to entertain them, but I wouldn’t ever put it in a paper to be read by adults. To be fair most little kids are pretty bright and know I’m kidding too, this does not seem to be the case with Graham Hancocks followers, they have a more difficult time distinguishing fact from fiction. His books err towards the later.
A lot of people have to spend time explaining that these theories are in grey areas and generally not accepted as credible in academic circles.
His original tenant was questionable, there was an ‘advanced civilization’ in prehistory, there is nothing to substantiate this or to suggest this is the case. He didn’t realize that this is actually a contradiction in (academic) terms.
Graham Hancock was a reporter, he writes well and provides entertainment, the issue is he doesn’t seem to understand the principles of scientific research or adopts a scientific approach, a lot of people actually also want to believe what he writes but this doesn’t make it factually correct. He tends to build arguments based on incorrect or unproven assumptions and often completely ignores peer-reviewed studies if they don’t align with his theory. It’s really this that ticks the academics off. He presents civilization existing in prehistory and there really isn’t any evidence that supports this.
There is also a fundamental difference in the meaning of the term ‘civilization’, to an archaeologist or anthropologist, they treat this as a city with writing which has a sophisticated social structure which can be evidenced (tax, markets etc, e.g. a written record referring to the ruler). Those on the fringe seem to think academics are denying the existence of early people, they are not, they refer to them as cultures (to distinguish between them, e.g. those that don’t yet have writing systems). Graham Hancock should be using the term culture to refer to less sophisticated societies, he does not, he calls them civilizations! There isn’t any archaeology that shows for example writing, so they are technically cultures. This is the crux of why he is not treated as credible in professional circles.
I still enjoy Randall Carlson. I wish he would distance himself from Graham.
This has to be said…
That’s just like your opinion man…
😂
TeamGreen, you're out of your element!

I love those memes,
I don’t know if you’re wrong. I do know that Hancock’s pretty honest about his “educated guessing”.

Mind control. They’re fucking with us. What are they trying to distract us from with fear.
I have seen Abraham Loeb on some science channels , he’s legit . He is one of the more high profile people that has been recently pushing for the science community to take the study of UFO’s more seriously and not attach a stigma to the field . He wants a proper scientific approach . This looks like a paper theorizing how probes COULD be spread in the solar system . We have studies on how would be the best way to colonize the MilkyWay and how long it would take … etc . It’s just best scientific based guesses . Why the media decided to run the story the way they did …
They are trying to divert attention. From what you ask? Throw a dart with your eyes closed. You couldn't possibly miss a dem scandal brewing.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
The latest....
Reason for all the Chicken kill-offs is because an esigm in the eggs has a natural defence against the next FLU "Break-out"
