Wow that’s crazy, I guess I missed the Colt to Honda rumors, and just the other day in a thread I mentioned how I thought he was gonna be “one of the big dogs” in the future, based on his Gypsy interview and how he carriee himself. Then people commented I was nuts and Colt is too old blah blah. I guess Honda saw what I saw. Dudes gonna crush it.
Gypsy interview? That’s how you miss stuff.

I'm not a grammar expert, I will admit that to the end of the earth. However, I did spend the night at a Holiday Inn Express last night and usually spend 12-16 hours a day working on this website. Laughing
You spend 12-16 hours a day on this? Holy fuck that job Batman 😂

Much appreciated though👍🏼

He deserves a chance like that in the 450 class, his 250 title was no fluke and he was the best guy that year hands down. I was bummed when he literally broke his arms first race.. Hope he makes it through 17 rounds and has some really good weekends!
That was a great season. 9 for 9 on podiums. Imagine every day getting beat down by Craig at the test track and staying mentally strong to come to the race weekends and execute the plan. We’ll done colt

Is Colt Nichols that hot of property? Yeah, he won a 250 SX Championship but nothing since.

Lol you say it like it was in 2015. You realise it was just last year and he broke both of his arms at A1 this season?

Good for colt, he’s got good style and will look good on red. I hope he stays healthy. Also, O’Neal looks great on Red

He looks comfortable. Wink

Man, factory Hondas look cool.

If I was Honda I would've grabbed Justin Cooper who is younger and also has a 250 divisional sx title and a threat to win outdoors. Yes he doesn't get along with the Lawerence bros, but put him on a 450 for SX to see what he can do. And then when the outdoors roll around he goes 250 and Jett goes 450? Colt is a good indoor rider, but is older. Maybe the Honda executives were hypnotized by his George Michael earring at the negotiating table and the next thing you know he's signed to Factory Honda. I'd take Cooper all day over Colt.

$400-500k for 2 races vs $750k for 17, I can see why he would when he still has a chance to get a decent paying ride for the series elsewhere. Or just take the time off.

Let’s face it, if he didn’t get the job done in 20, 21 or 22, he’s highly unlikely to get the job done in 23,24.. so right now it’s just about making bank for retirement.

IF those numbers quoted are true, he’s right have turned down a 750k contract for 17 races and take a 4-500k contract for 2 races.

The difference in the Risk Vs. Reward is huge!

Kinda hard when he’s under contract.

True but you would've thought Honda would have seen this coming, not to mention Cooper get's screwed out of a bunch of money by NOT being able to race Supercross by his team. I have never been a Roczen fan, but I'll bet good money Colt doesn't come close to matching Kenny's indoor results. It just seems like a super random signing. But I'm not an insider or at the tracks, hope I'm wrong and he does good. I still would've grabbed Cooper before he resigned with Star for outdoors only. Any good agent is going to shop their guy around before they sign something, sounds like his agent dropped the ball or maybe Cooper is intimidated by 450sx. 🤔

You sure cooper “resigned” or still had another year left. If he had another year left which I bet was the case he can’t race sx any ways because of the rules. And I’d rather have colt over cooper in sx.

Not sure. But I'd take Cooper in either class, especially the fact that he could take over the 250 outdoors when Jett moves to the 450. Colt is good but older and injury prone, also do you think Honda will just want Hunter and (maybe) rookie Hymas on the 250s? Cooper and Hunter on 250s and Jet and Chase on 450's? Not to shabby. But what is done is done and hope Colt puts in some good top 10 rides.

I wonder if Colt will be back at the "DV Factory".

According to Vuillemin (along his Aug/September interviews), there was a mutual will before the end of the summer, but just at that time Colt found himself without team for 2023. Without a paid deal by a team, Colt couldn't afford such help.

Glad he got a ride. Hoping he'll do good on a 450. Probably suits his style better. He's a top 10 in 450 I'd say.

Cooper has a deal with Star. It's not an ideal deal, but I still expect him to get some 450 SX appearances. From his appearances on PulpMX, I never got the impression he was shopping himself or looking to get out.

With Kenny's departure, Colt was absolutely the best rider who was more or less "available". He needed a ride after the Butler Bros thing detonated, probably burned his bridge with HEP after it looked like he was going there, then hopped over to a KTM. This Honda deal is the absolute best outcome for him, and good for Honda too. It's a mutually beneficial deal, Honda gets a good rider quite inexpensively and Colt gets an amazing shot to prove himself on a 450.

Honda has already invested in Chance Hymas for the past 2 seasons as an amateur, there is already a plan for the 250 class when Jett departs. They will have 2 factory bikes on the gate for 250 Nationals, Hunter and Chance.

Seems more like a placeholder role like Savatgy at Kawi when they were waiting for Adam. Great opportunity, hope he is able to leverage it and find a solid role in the 450 class.

This is a perfect example of how fragile a career in racing really is. Colt worked his butt of his entire life to land a Star ride and take home a championship. Fast forward one year and he’s laying on the ground with two broken arms. One mistake and he goes from a hot property to a fill in rider who will most likely have to wait for someone to get hurt if he wants to race outdoors this summer. Professional motocross is a tough gig for sure. That’s what makes guys with careers like Ricky, McGrath, and Tomac even more impressive.

A lot of that is just perception. So many people think that if your not at the tip of the spear you haven’t had a successful career. Which is unfortunate. Just to make a living off racing is a successful career in my opinion. Guys like mc, rc, Dunge, and Eli are extremely rare.

If your goal is to simply achieve the experience of racing at the premier level, you are correct. With the sacrifice and dedication it takes to get to that level, I would have to imagine that Colt’s goal was not to win a regional title then get a SX only place-holder ride in 2023. After achieving his first title, I imagine that his goal was to win another one this year, then step up to a multiyear 450 contract for 2023. It easily could have happened, but for one small mistake.

Well obviously his goal is to win. But just because he didn’t defend his title and is sx only for now don’t mean he’sa failure. He got 1 off about 15 factory 450 rides is reason to celebrate. Also this opens the door for him to get a wsx ride next summer if he doesn’t get an outdoor ride.
