Fake Gypsy Tales Scam

This is more of a look out incase it happens to anyone else.

I commented on one of the videos they made interviewing Jason Anderson - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqfkhDNMfao&t=7s (Dane Young).

Then received a comment under my post that "I was selected amongst a short list for their giveaway"

Well, I messaged them (thinking it was sketch as it was but played along to see where it'd go. Low and behold, here's the outcome.

This isn't a pity me/bummer me kind of thread, just in case anyone else sees this around to not be dumb. Scammers are the scum of the earth.

i had something very similar with the videos from 999Lazer when commenting there.
these scammers trying to get some money for a "delivery" which will never happen.

Got that same thing in another video. I knew it was a scam but I did the same as you talking to the guy.
HOWEVER... its the Same value for shipping, since im from south america. Weird eh? SAME VALUE for US and South America. Its even weirder cuz Costa do Sol is not even a real country.... =P

Scammers usually use broken english/bad grammar on purpose, those who don't notice or don't care usually aren't smart enough to spot the scam, so they don't waste time on people who won't follow through with it.

Don't feel bad...or alone. I jumped on a $199 Craftsman tool box "clearance sale". Total scam but paypal refunded my money....I got lucky for being this stupid.Blush

PS...this scam presented itself as Home Depot or Lowes...I don't remember. I asked a pretty knowledgeable friend about it. He said that, that particular big box store was moving from craftsman to a different brand and a big clearance was probably legit. I should have verified but...a $1500 box for $199...you gotta move fast or lose. Lol...scammers counted on my greed.

Enough that they still have to keep cutting off hands.

The problem with deterrence is that most people inclined to steal/kill/etc. don't believe they will be caught. Or, worse, don't care if they are caught or don't feel that they have anything to lose if they are.

I have to oversee cybersecurity for my firm, and we are hammered every week with phishing, spearphishing, and other social engineering schemes. I see more of this now in personal text and email (generally purporting to be retailers with a free gift if you click on a link). The objectives can be this sort of fraud trying to induce an advance of funds, or compromising your system for ransomware or exfiltration of data. There are people sitting in offices knocking this stuff out every day. Like any sales you don't need to succeed every pitch, and when you automate the initial contact it allows the scammer to focus on those who reply as mark prospects.

This stuff is rampant right now. The central goal is to induce you to let your guard down, and it pays to be deeply suspicious of any offer that seems to good to be true.

I was in Saudi for the first Gulf War. Even though the punishment for theft was the chopper...every time I went to the suq (market)...someone got arrested for theft. I'm not sure they weren't doing it to raise money to buy relatives out of bondage. Shit was definitely medieval there.

The company I work for runs frequent phishing exercises modeled after real-world phishing attempts. If employees fail a certain number of consecutive phishing tests, you will be terminated. It's that serious.

They use spelling errors and stuff so the auto scammer systems cannot pick it up. If they used correct grammer and spelling there comments would get auto flagged
