I just hope one of them doesn’t get a bad start and that extra 5 min doesn’t matter.

All in all it should be interesting to see how this change works out tomorrow.
Looking forward to hearing everyone's post race opinions on this subject.
I can predict some comments now.

"Brah, Tomac & Sexton got off their bikes and didn't even look spent "

"Dude, one more lap and my guy would've won"

"This format suited your guy better that's the only reason he won"

Should be interesting.

I think they’re trying to be careful because of Josh Lichtle death in 2011 from heat stroke and the family sued mx sports , red bud and Yamaha after his death . So I bet everyone has to take it serious now when temps get over 100 or they will all be sued again if anything like that happens again and they didn’t do anything to prevent it again
It was low 90s that day according to this article. Just reading your post about them taking it serious when it gets over 100 made me...

That's crazy. If you are getting overheated, slow down or pull off. WTF.

A lot of armchair quarterbacks in here.

A few years ago at work it was heat indexes of 103 or so, they took safety very seriously and mandated we took water breaks every 15 minutes or so, and we took it super easy and rarely ventured out of the shade. A very laid back day. My coworker made it home then collapsed/turned pale white, and had to be taken to the ER with heat exhaustion, missed the rest of the week. That's when I learned to not underestimate heat.

As shitty as the TV package is they should just practice the day before and start the motos at 7am.

I work in that weather daily. Been heat index of about 105 every day since may. I ride in it too. I guess it's something you have to build up and get used to. I hate it but never had a heat stroke. These guys are in a lot better shape than me and I'm sure the extra 5 minutes wouldn't be a big deal

Honestly that was the weird thing. We were outside that day, but inside was anywhere from 90-130 no matter the outside temp, so it's not like he wasn't used to heat. It was super surprising when I heard about it. I hate heat/humidity and sweat like a pig, but I've done quite a lot of hard labor in 100+ Temps and have never had it. Eli and Chase both have.

Bottom line, Eli and Chase are fine with 5 minutes less with everything they have on the line, we should be too.

I'm with you on that, I hate humidity and sweat like a pig daily. In fact it's 8:30 am here and I'm already soaked. Hottest summer on record down here, absolutely miserable

Yeah have qualifying sat then race Sunday morning. Even truckers r laughing at this. We hand unload or pull 5k lbs of pallets off trailers that r 130 degrees inside with no breeze. Heat index is ovr 100 shutdown America.

I think the better approach is to race earlier in the day.
If that isn't going to happen, I want to respect that pushing 190bpm+ heart rate for 30+2 without water is a long freaking time.

In the future, the rules should be consistent. Either of these may work:
* Five days prior to the race, if the forecast for race day is 105F+, racing starts at 9am sharp. Motos remain 30 minutes.
* Leave the schedule alone, and for any single moto, if the temp is 105F+ 10 minutes prior to the start, that single moto is shortened to 25+2.

MXSports has got to freak'n go... why we let someone as corrupt as them run this stuff is just ridiculous...

oh and...

We MUST HAVE an actual sanctioning body.... one that isn't run.. nor paid for... nor staffed by... the f'n race promotor...

We all pay far too much money each year to get this s-show in return...

after all these years of following the nationals, over 40 f'n years.. i never thought it would ever come to this... but the s-show at MXSports IMO makes this mandatory IMO.... I will not watch, nor ever support, corrupt racing..

You keep posting the same thing over and over in threads related to the outdoors. Why do you even bother to open these threads?

Agrees, but may the best man win this title. I will be pumped either way. I would like to see HRC get a title again though. Cheers!

I agree. Crazy the 5 mins won’t make a difference to guys overheating if it’s that hot they are worried.

Maybe not…
They may run full 30+2 tomorrow.
They’ll decide tomorrow, but it sounds like, If the heat index is under 102 tomorrow they’re running full motos but if it’s over they’re doing 25.

If you think shortening the motos is a good idea. Please, please, leave the sport now. This goes for the promoters and any race personnel too.

For all of you complaining about the loss of 5 minutes of "epic, come-from-behind" rides, remember that the amount of time they have is the same for everyone. It's on the riders to land in the best position they can for 25+2. Period.

If the promoter really cares about rider safety: put more focus on slowing down the track. Less high speed sections with ground level obstacles. Lower number of unskilled riders on the track. But to reduce moto times, really seems out in left field. Maybe they should try planning the locations of the series in advance and not make the teams criss cross the continent multiple times

What is this ”if it would change the outcome” shit?

All riders know when they line up that it will be a 25 + 2 moto, it’s the same for all the riders and with that in their mind, just raise the intensity.

I could understand if they started the race and with 5 minutes left a red flag incident happens and they decide to freeze the moto and don’t start it again due to over 75% of the race have been run, and that becomes a factor for the championship.

But if 25 + 2 are held and Eli can’t pass sexton on the last lap for the title, tough luck, you had 25 + 2 to show that you were faster or vice versa.

Thank you! People are making way too big a deal about this.

A majority of the tubby guys bitching in this thread would get heatstroke walking to their mailbox. Oh no 5 minutes taken away from each moto! The riders were informed 3 days beforehand.

I agree, it's a good compromise for the heat. 25+2 is plenty of time for a good race. Starting earlier would have been good but I guess logistically it would be a nightmare.

Anyone that thinks shortening the motos is a good idea, please leave this sport immediately. This includes promoters and any team personnel. Humans can handle heat. Have you ever heard of a marathon being shortened? Thousands of 50 year old women can run for 4 hours to complete a marathon in any temperature. A motocrosser can only ride his motorcycle for 30 minutes. An embarrassment to the sport.
