Brennan should have stood his ground and took the bike. WTF do these grown men going to do to a minor....?

Furthermore, Cotter is what, like 70yo and Deegan is a buck 50 at best. Pretty sure a school boy could have worked both of them.

The only part I’m really interested in hearing about, if it actually happened, is how Cotter and Deegan got to the kid before he got to the AMA official. The rest, to me, is inconsequential.

That part is categorically untrue! I was in the room the whole time when Deegen was there and nothing happened there was no intimidation whatsoever. I was also there right after the kid brought the protest up and the reason the kid was in the room without his father is because his father wasn’t there. Derek Harris wanted in the room but was not allowed because he was not the parent or guardian. That is absolutely positively firsthand because I was in the room

Was or wasn’t a Yamaha dealership’s renewal with the brand threatened to be pulled if the dealer supported rider went through with the claim?

Ok well than that pretty much puts to bed the rumor of Yam threatening to take their franchise away as they would fall under the Yamaha Canada umbrella and not under Yamaha USA who would have been the personnel at LL

I think it’s reasonable to assume that Yamaha US might have some kind of influence on Yamaha Canada. Not claiming it’s the case, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

I could buy 1 and 2 because of something I was told. I was told that he has been on a full factory bike for a couple weeks to help him build up his strength and stamina for when he does turn.

He explained that there is a leap power wise between a Star factory bike and a Star amateur bike and it takes more strength to ride the factory bike and they are trying to build it.
Dumb question - if the rider is trying to build strength for a faster 250 motor why wouldn't they just ride a 450 for core body work? Are they just so concerned about being on the exact bike (250) that they will spend the money building/rebuilding shorter lifespan motors?

You don't think much before you post do ya?? LOL

Lets assume Yamaha USA was at Lorettas... I mean, no need for yamaha canada to be there as they had american reps on the ground...

That would not keep Yamaha USA from harassing the kid about the claim... doesn't keep them from offering the kid deals to go back on his claim... and with the actual dealer on the ground at Lorettas... it does not keep the Yamaha USA rep from walking up to said dealer and saying "I'll make one call and your yamaha contract is gone!".......

but... you jump to conclusions, like a 12 yr old would.... "that pretty much puts it to bed"... LMAO....

You really think the kind of contracts that Yamaha has with their dealers can be undone with "one call" ?

You really don't think that would lead to a huge legal battle?

A quick check of the link Swordfish posted makes it appear this is a huge, full line Yamaha dealer...something tells me it'd take more than "one call" to make that go away.

LOL! I jump to conclusions!! did you read what you posted...until it's a proven fact (which I highly doubt will happen) I call bullshit...but then again the guilty until proven innocent mentality is pretty strong in this thread.

That’s cool, but it’s not the first time a manufacturer or rep has done the same. I know two dealers who had their lines pulled over personal conflict.

Yeah they are going to take away the brand from one of their largest dealers in Canada over a claimed bike at a US amateur race...Makes total sense to me...

Maybe you are right, but as I mentioned I know of at least a couple times a franchise has been pulled over personality conflicts or disagreements.
Motoplex is a big operation, they have deep pockets. Ducati, Triumph, Suzuki, BMW, Polaris, Indian.

Is it just possible the kid wanted a star bike and claimed it ?
And that Deegan and star didn’t cheat, they just wanted to keep there bike, and they have the money and are in a position to keep it so they did.
And that after talking to Brian Deegan, that the kid realized that’s not the way to go about getting a star bike and they decided not to go ahead.
Everyone gets so caught up and wants there to be more to it, but why?
If it was a dead set they think there cheating then why wouldn’t they just got protest????

I would venture to guess those were long term/ongoing problems that led to that?

It just seems pretty extreme (and a breach of contract) for Yamaha to pull their line from a dealership of that size over something like this.

They are not even in the top 20 for Yamaha dealers in Canada. They sell a lot of other brands.

No not really, they mostly involved selling brands that might compete with another. I can’t comment on breach of contract or any other details. I mean, coercion, threats and such are fairly common in business, at least in my experience. I doubt anyone will ever really know.

Ok, then let's put our common sense hat's on for a minute....

Does it really make sense that the huge corporation that is Yamaha would put in the time and resources to take away this dealers contract over a claim filed at an Amateur Race, by a no-name kid from Canada that probably has their logo on his graphics cause they sold him a bike at cost and he gets cost plus 10% on parts?

Not to mention, the Racing side and Dealership side of Yamaha are completely separate from each other.

I'm sure some shit went on behind the scenes with this that we'll never know about, but I just can't wrap my head around threatening the dealer who (by what I've read at least) had zero to do with the whole situation....

When it was a fully factory motor/transmission that they got caught with their pants down running? Yeah…. I think they were looking for every bit of leverage to use against that kid.

Why else would the owner of the dealership be brought in to the meeting room with Cotter, Brian Deegan and the kid? The dealer had absolutely nothing to do with this whole situation, yet was brought in to a closed door meeting before the father for what reason? Anyone who thinks his licensing wasn’t threatened….please explain to me why he was involved in any capacity then.

How do you know it was a full Factory motor and transmission?

Was the kids Father even at the race? Pretty sure I read he wasn't... so I guess that would explain why he wasn't in the room....

You'd be blown away with what I have seen happen in 22 years in the powersports industry.....But yes common sense hat on, it would not make sense.
