Seems like the 30 minute category has the most action. I’m going to take a shot at that tonight see if I can even get close.

Just let me know if these are current times, as in done this week.

Posting former records as insanely impressive as they are, I wanted to motivate you to hammer out a workout this week for the glory. Not relive a past glory!
100% not current lol my bad. I've been more into target training lately. Set your pace and stroke per minute for 20 to 30 minutes and focus on form and consistency

Any runners interested in a running category? Maybe yz133 would be open to making this a sort of complete fitness thread

Heck yeah, send me some categories to add and formats and I’ll edit the title and original post.

Maybe some general fitness tests too; like say
Your best time for
100 push-ups
100 sit-ups
100 squats
something like that

For running 1mile, 5k, and 10k would probably cover a majority of what anyone on here would be doing. And I think that’s a great idea as well!

Anyone interested on following each other on Strava: https://www.strava.com/athletes/25374383

My bests for the past week:
1 mile: 6:43
5k: 22:48
10k: 47:19

Always makes me laugh when you guys talk about 5k/10k.

That has to be the only place where you look at Metric right?

Pretty much 😂, 1/2 and full marathons are known in mileage, but technically the rule book calls them out in km.

Same as when someone refers to the rifle caliber 30-06 as “thirty ought 6”

Traditions. As dumb as they are lol.

“Double ought buck”

Always seemed incredibly strange to me. But that’s another topic entirely.

Aw, you answered my question. My best mile time... 33 years ago... was 4:48. Now, I'd be lucky to get it under 8:00. Blush

My post is current pace. I do 30’s during the week on my lunch break as I work from home full time. Helps reset my mindset for the afternoon tasks, especially if I had a stressful morning.

Those are some impressive times!

About the talking in metrics, when it comes to rowing and indoor cycling is the only time I talk about it that way. In a company Slack channel, I wasn’t sure who my audience was, if they were beginners or avid rowers, so I was referencing it in miles and got flamed for it. They got their spandex all up in a twist and said to refer to distances in metric if I’m going to share

I wish it was separated for mountain/road, but cool nonetheless.

Hey could we set up a vital mx running club on strava?
I run more than I cycle these days and I’m not spending more than 10minutes on a rowing machine for anyone!

I believe the C2 rower is a true test of how much power a person has.

As for myself I ride mx fluid and with finesse, I have good strength but not a powerhouse. That translates to good times on the C2 but for a person with way more power especially leg squat strength can crush my times.

It’s a leverage thing for sure as well… I took my brother through a row workout, side by side on machines. I’m 6’6”, he’s maybe 5’10”? 🤔 and I’m 110kg to him maybe being 80-90 max I’d guess. Always been a fit kid tho.

The rate of row cycles he had to do to do my pace was hilarious, but if we went running he’d be the one laughing. It’s just not the same. Lifting weights doesn’t always translate either. Swimming correlates I’ve noticed. Lotta tall powerful swimmers who can row at my college etc.
6'6" vs 5'10".

Sounds like my Rowing days ( on the water, not in a room).

After my knees became too damaged to play RL and RU, with my High School being about 100 meters from the river, I took up Rowing (what an effing boring sport).

Anyway, my 3 Crew mates were all 6'6" or above. We were a "heavy weight" crew. I was 5'10" ( now shrunk to 5'7", on a 'good' day, through all my joint compression and wear).

So, this (relatively) little f**ker had to over extend and over compress to match those Big Bastards stroke length. I was a maniacally competitive Ranga, so I could / would do it. Our Coach always tried to get another Big Bastard in the shell to replace me, but none of them ever could bring our Crews times down. Plus, my mates told him "Bear Stays, or We Walk - Go F**ck Yourself" The Coach was our Vice Principal.........

About the only good thing about Rowing was the comradery, and well, the before and after interactions with the Girls Crews.

As for my fitness nowadays - I'm wrapped in Cotton Wool, after a major illness. All I do is 600 'Push Againsts' ( pair of Handlebars keyed into a bench edge at 900mm height, legs out about 1200mm from bench) as getting down and up for push ups is difficult) in 10 batches of 60, and 600 "arms with weight" (only 2kg each arm) in 5 reps of 120. And, a bit of spinning up and down besides the river, each day, and to the shops. Varies from 10 to 20ks (so, sweet FA) a day.

So, I'm a chubby mess Blush , but, I'm trying, just a bit.

PS - can you "Catch a Crab" on those fancy rowing machines? I imagine not, as such a thing could lead to a Lot of litigation. They could get bloody nasty when in the Shell, I telz yuz............Woohoo Blink Woohoo

I don't recall who set up the cycling one. Sucks that even if a club is designated multi sport, there doesn't seem to be a way to show separate leaderboards by activity type.

Strava sucks in terms of what they could do but choose not too!

Similar to your issue, they won't duplicate segments for sports and then filter by type... which is obviously the way that makes sense... instead they have excessive segments that the user can't compare. So if i'm ebiking one day and mtb'ing the next, I can't compare my downhill times, they're different segment names, measured differently from whomever created them...

I've talked to their techs and they basically say well we only do this because it's too much work – but it's really not and once they consolidated the database, it would repopulate and they could delete so many redundant segments...

Don’t get me going, been a strava user since the early days, and the list of obvious things they’ve never bothered with is ridiculous. Yes, porting segments to all sports should be an obvious one. Cropping elevation gain that came from a ski lift (because obviously they know where they all are at this point). When they wanted to make more people pay, they couldn’t even add features to make the paid account attractive, they took them away from the free version, and after the users created the segments for them.

Yep. Beyond crap. I literally pay for it just so I have the beacon because I often ride by myself due to our weird hours from work... Don't know how Wifey would find me I guess but she'd be able to see where I am at least Laughing

I made both the Cycling and now the running one. Still looking for someone to volunteer to admin the running one since I barely ever run!

Three best tape measures I have are from working in a cabinet shop.. They're standard on top, metric on the bottom. As a trim carpenter I always hated 1/8, 1/16, 5/16, etc. MM is totally easier and more precise.

I use garmin, keep it private. Used to have it push to Strava, but felt that got to facebookish for me, and dropped Strava. I like the idea of this thread here though.

I try to jog 1000+ miles a year. I ran for 1040 days straight, but fell asleep one evening in May and ended that streak. Started another one, but at only 40 days in, I ripped my ballsack last Thurs. while road biking and got 12 stitches. And well, I'm starting over again in probably a week. Worst thing besides sitting down, is that I was supposed to go open water swimming in Lake Huron Saturday, but with stitches that's a no-no.

Keep moving, that's my motto. Move until I'm 80+ is the goal Smile
