The thread about the BarX Suzukis brought up the absence of electric start. Off the top of my concussion experienced head, I can only think of a few times and think I went some years without ever stalling over five decades of racing.

Not suggesting KTM ditch e start but just curious what your experience has been over the years. BTW the 2023 300cc 2 stroke fuel injected KTM with e start looks and sounds amazing. Those Austrians have got it going on.

Not stop stalling and post.

The YZ426’s would try to kill you daily, power on always, never let off the throttle

I raced Glen Helen a few weeks ago. A dude fell in the turn before mt st Helen and was right in front of me. I stalled trying not to hit him.

They should remove kick starters and E-start. Let's make everyone bump start. Imagine how interesting that would be.

Or even just practicing, I am sure plenty have stalled it even when there was no pressure on them.

Shit, I stalled it once in 3rd gear wide open on a KX125 back when I was a teen. That takes talent. lol So here is how it went down. There was a left hander that you could rail in 2nd gear that led to pretty much a seat bounce double. Click third in the air and land wide open and hit a single as hard as you could and it would land you right at the base of a tabletop. I was just locking it up and slide all the way up the face of the table and once I got in the air just pinning it to not do an endo. I was feeling it, young, dumb and just flowing that whole section. Only me and a couple of others were doing it. I guess I had some clutch fade because my rear wheel took a skip and killed the motor. I promise you I had it wide open but there was no motor to be had. I was lucky and I have no idea how I didn't endo because my ass was sucking in the rear fender. I did pull off an epic nose wheelie into a coast start but there was no playing that one off like I had meant to do it.
There have been times but I can't remember to many times that I've stalled it but that one stuck in my head.

I used to leave my YZ426 running while in staging- would never shut that thing off once I got it running…

None for years, then stalled twice this year. Once was a hydraulic clutch problem (maintenance), one was not pulling the clutch in fast enough to avoid a crash in front of me.

But still gets me thinking to update my now-ancient racebike to e-start/fuel-injection.

I like it. Mechanics pushing bikes of the gates, riders deciding when to dump the clutch. Mechanics also becoming part of training facilities, training sprint, pushing weights, diets. Special mechanics sports gear and special mechanics starting blocks

As "Fast Freddy' pull up along side you at the start gate, standing proudly, with his shiny new Maico 700!

Rob, I have the Rekluce on all my bikes, I refer to this clutch as an old mans safety/anti-stall deviceWoohoo

Always ride like I have a regular clutch - be it at the track or in the woods/desert, make a mistake and the bike keeps on running.....

It happened to me a lot in 2004, when I was racing a 250F. Never before or since. Hmmm, I wonder what the difference has been. Oh yeah.... two strokes don't stall on me when I shut off the throttle. Grinning

If your paycheck is on the line, like et3 and sexton last weekend, there should be a magic button... for everyone else... taking 5 seconds to start instead of 2 makes zero difference in 35+ B at chicken lips... screw the added complexity and maintenance..

Apparently it’s a pretty serious concern, when people are spending $1200 on a Rekluse to keep it from stalling. Tongue

I stalled in one of my motos Sunday. E start or kick start would have made no difference.

I’ve yet to grasp why anyone needs or wants an auto clutch. Yes I’ve stalled my bike. No I have never thought, an auto clutch would be nice here.

Such an overpriced waste of money. And I use Other Rekluse products. It’s good quality. Just pointless for an auto clutch in motocross on a track. Maybe the woods, but even then whatever.

For sure! Even more so if you’re running an Austrian brand. There isn’t an aftermarket clutch that lasts longer while still performing than the stock KTM/Husky/GG basket and plates.

Now that they’ve fixed the slave cylinder issue, it’s the best clutch in the game by a long shot.

One time stands out the most. On my 06' Kawi 450, half way into the first lap inches behind the leader, and into a sand section. Had a passing spot picked out after the sand at the next turn so held the line behind him. Got so close that my front tire caught his rear, and lifted my front. Pulled in the clutch to back off a little, then dumped it. Being in the sand the tire caught no traction, and the rear just bulldozed the sand to a stall-out. Worst part was for what ever reason, I could not get it restarted. Got lapped and finally it fired.

Everyone, no matter the skill level, with or without a happy button has stalled and will continue to stall within certain circumstances. When one does stall, it will help to be calm when trying to fire it up. Most times, even at pro level the guys are in such a hurry to restart that they waste a few valuable seconds getting it fired up and set to get going.

Safest bet is to get it in neutral before kicking or hitting the button. Furthermore, knowing your bike and how she responds helps. Doesn't help much if you start it in 4th gear, you'll still need to get back to 2nd or 1st gear to get going.

We live to learn....and this is a useful topic btw.

After my 4 stroke phase I've been on YZ250's. So that's kind of cheating. Yes you have to kick it but it's usually one and done and on the run, ...son Laughing In gear outta gear doesn't matter, kick & go

Ya, that one is a urban myth but a good story nevertheless....
