We now have 16 races on the schedule, many of which are double drops, and our race day starts at 7:30 am sharp with practice (10 min per skill level), and we are racing by 8:40 am with the day wrapping up between 5 and 6 pm, but on average we are finished by 5:30. 3 years ago racing was going on till 7:30 Sunday night and people we just quitting because the day was too fucking long, motos were constantly being cut back in the 2nd half of the day, there were too many classes, and that was a big cause of our local scene suffering from participation. Now we can offer longer motos, and a bigger bang for the buck (and this cannot be underestimated), and we have seen a nice resurgence at the track. It cannot be denied though that gas prices have kicked the shit out of everything. Are we leaving money on the table by not having more classes? Maybe. But we also lost a portion of the community we just threw their hands up in the air and going to off road because they didn't want to stick around at the track till 7-7:30 pm Sunday night. If at the end of the day people felt like they got a good return on their hard earned recreational investment, they are more likely to stay engaged.

Single track is actually pretty easy. My buddy rode a Yamaha Raptor 350 or something....I don't pay much attention to quads, but he was able to ride everything. I later sold him one of my 125s and he couldn't ride shit at the same place he conquered on his couch (quad)
I'm just not a fan of trails because my Dad made me ride them for days before he let me ride the track.
If your buddy was on a quad, you were not on single track.

But I didn't like beating my mx bike up but it did help you learn to corner good and hit ruts so I guess that was a plus. But my Dad always fixed it so I could go to the track on Tuesday.

That’s the point of what I am saying. You used to go to Local races and it wouldn’t be like it is now. And I am not talking 1980. My family owned a super popular track in Florida for nearly 25 years and even into the 2000s you could find plenty of tracks where you weren’t racing at 830am.

I’m not saying you’re wrong to do it how you’re doing it now. I’m just saying that as recently as 15 years ago I would routinely see tracks in the southeast race from 10- dark and the gates would be more full, the environments more fun and less rigid, and they were just more enjoyable than practicing at 7am and potentially still be racing at 5pm. That’s insanity.

The only time we used to see race schedules that long we’re at huge races like the Mini Os, LLs, regionals, Ponca, Tx nats, etc.

Anyone who raced those then hated that schedule too and the only reason they were there was the prestige. Local races don’t have prestige so who wants to spend time that should be fun grinding like this? Local races are recreational events that should be fun, they aren’t and shouldn’t be ran and structured the same cut throat ways that the Ammy nats are.

That’s the problem I am addressing.
