Is there a fundamental reason AMA SX and MX can't emulate MXGPtv.com and have a premium streaming service AND licensed TV coverage?
Casual viewers probably aren't even aware if the event isn't live and expect commercials.
Also, is it reasonable for the subscribing customer to have to bounce to NBC (subscribe to cable TV or Peacock) to catch one of the motos live?
This is PRO racing.
Currently, if it's not in the front nobody's interested. Change that.
Do me a solid and ask ET3 on the record "if this summer will in all likelihood end up being his MX farewell tour?". Also, he's on record saying he plans on continuing as long as he's still enjoying himself and able to compete for championships. Assuming that's still the case "what led you to decide this summer would be his last?"
If you could asks him those I'd be forever grateful.

This has been in the making for 20 plus years, maybe 40 plus years. It's not good. Local racing is down on participation outside of Lotetta Lynn qualifiers in the past 40 years. Practice tracks don't count, although I am sure that participation there is much greater over the years than in the past. That does not lead to a fan of the professional motocross sport most times. Those people don't really watch it if you really get into a discussion with them. They know ET3 and JL 18, but they have no idea who Henry Miller is even if he lives in the same state as the place your practicing.
This terrible TV coverage cannot be good for MX. The big 5 ( well 7) run the show, are on rhe board to make rhe rules and race to promote bike sales. Nothing more. Without the manufactures , it will be doomed like Road Racing. Without the races getting out there to viewers, I would think that the big 5 would find other avenues to put their race budgets.
I am under the assumption that KTM races Moto GP for the exposure for their small bike sales in India and the Far East. Nothing more, at least not at the moment.
My concern is that the WMX stage may get more from the manufactures( to partipate, it is FIM) in the form of money and take away monies that would be spent on the outdoor nationals. There is only a finite amount the manufactures can spend and the world economies seem to be slowing down fast.
Lots of Pro riders signing up. Like back in the 80's. That's good, but the quality of some of these guys isn't there and it shows with the amount they don't make racing bikes. From what I have gathered, it seems that the draw of a B or Pro-Am rider at LL qualifiers is down a little and also, guys like Defransisco can race pro and keep their AM status. So I believe that's why there are more guys at signup the last 3 years. It's not because participating as a pro is suddenly a cool thing. It's a stage that many can participate in, like 160 plus 12 times a year where as LlL's just 80 guys, or spots, once a year. Probably closer to 55 than 80 guys because many run 2 classes at LL's.
Oh, and bike sales don't grow the sport anymore than football sales grows that sport. Good marketing, a good product, excitement, rivalries, tradition, etc all go along with bike sales to grow the sport. A few of those ingredients are lacking in a major way today in outdoor MX.
It's not "journalism" - it's sound bites of purely polished press release style answers. "Jett - did you wanna set your bike on fire?" (half-joking). "Eli - did you think about this being your last lap at red bud?" "KR - where did you go Moto2?" "JA, what happened with Barcia in the parade lap?"
Something.
Anything.
Or just admit that you can't ask real questions and be honest about it.
(and i'm not bashing on you ML - just the "media" in general)
Shit, the outdoor nationals might've disappeared altogether if not for the passion & enormous amount of hard work put forth to maintain & grow a niche within a niche sport.
'Demanding' that DC own up or apologize in any way for the recent 'oh shit' moment regarding the streaming is complete infantile bullshit. As if you think he or someone wanted things to go sideways.
I'm blaming your parents ... for raising such pathetic, petty, selfish pricks.
.
I don't need him crucified nor feathered. But a public convo isn't too much to ask.
Isn't it pretty apparent that the MX broadcasts aren't all that lucrative ? If they were, it would stand to reason that networks would be falling all over themselves to get a piece of it. Alas, that doesn't appear to be the case.
Here's a thought ; we are fortunate to have live National MX & should be damn appreciative of those that make it possible.
.
I'm trying to have an intelligent discussion here. Lay off the roids.
Well, it’s not and that’s what people are upset with. We haven’t had this shitty of coverage for quite a few years.
That is all,
BTW Settling for mediocrity and calling people names with a keyboard is the definition of “pathetic”
With that said..... with the media resources Davey has... it wouldn't be that much of a stretch for him to hire a handful of guys to do the TV coverage for youtube (heck, he may already have them on staff)... either via his own cameras and video guys.... or via paying someone else to do the camera work (for example brandon over at liverc)... camera crew, put it on YouTube live, and best TV package in years.... not hard... not expensive, yet would give moto far more eyeballs than the s show they are doing now.....
Mavtv or no tv deal at all? Oh come on....
I won't even pretend to know or understand the ins and outs let alone the legalities of sponsors and broadcast rights and such. Pretty sure there's money, contracts and lawyers involved.
At 64, I like to feel that I've developed a pretty good bullshit filter. I had the pleasure of meeting DC, more than once, on my trip. When I look at a feller straight in the eyeballs and he tells me he's gutted, frustrated, and desperately trying to get things fixed...well, I didn't come away thinking, "That old boy is just in it for the money and doesn't give a shit". Just the opposite...I saw a man behind the 8-ball. If you've never been the guy in charge of situation that was out of control...I hope you never are.
That's it...that's where I stand on the matter. Peace y'all.
Where the BS starts is his hardcore buy-in and coming on here to tell us how amazing the coverage/switch was going to be. Now you are saying he told you MAVTV was his ONLY option.
Being optimistic is one thing, but over-promising and then WAY under-delivering...and then virtually disappearing is the problem most of us have.
A couple "press release" type posts or responses maybe would have been enough if he had been honest about the unknown of MAVTV.
If it was something along the lines of "hey guys we are having some issues finding a good TV/streaming package, we are going with MAVTV because it is one of our only options, and I think it will be a good one."
Instead it was promises of great coverage, but honestly there was already some push-back because there was no clear info on commercial-free.
To be clear, at least for me, DC was not the villain from the beginning. I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt, because he's always been a great communicator on here, in podcasts, etc....
The biggest failure is the radio silence after the issues. In my opinion that's a direct result of over-promising before the nationals.
Unless MAVTV turned out to be the best coverage we've ever had, the whole thing was doomed.
Now we don't have any clear answers from the people who actually know. He put himself on the line when he made those statements before the season, and now it looks so much worse with him remaining mostly silent except for some very short and polished statements.
Pit Row
To address the whole MXsports and outdoor nationals in general. All I have is heresay information, but from what I've heard Tony Miller had to pay to host a race at Freestone was over 7 digits. Why? What did that money go to? How is it that the promoter has these huge expenses but not the track owners?
Again, it seems as if the system just goes from place to place leeching off of the host until it goes belly up, then onto the next. There's no investment towards the future, rather its "I'm gonna get what I can get now. I'll worry about next year, next year." It's very short sighted.
Someone asked earlier "where does the money come from?" Well for one, stop spending money on dumb events that the community only watches (straight rhythm, MEC, etc.) And get them involved. Maybe pick a few of these nationals to be LL qualifiers as well. Make it a huge event for the entire family. AM races on Friday or Sunday, watch the pros do their thing on Saturday. This sport is craving some leadership. It's all monkey see, monkey do right now.
Here's the power of social media. Went to the shop yesterday to drop off the bike for some suspension work. This shop does the suspension for a rider racing at Red Bud and didn't even have the race on the TVs. They were playing Deegan's YouTube channel....... There's no connection between the community and the pro racing scene.
Promotocross page 791k followers

An amateur rider has more followers than the GD pro outdoor motocross series....
What they're doing is NOT working.
In a year all this won't even make the top 10.
This is nothing compared to the supercross promoter battles.
A blip in moto history compared to the fourstrokes transition.
Nothing compared to the injury news of top riders like bailey, johnson, herlings, and so many more.
This will be a gossip piece compared to fuel gate or Stewart's banned substance.
It has been a disappointment, sure.
But if you rant and rave and say you are leaving the sport because of this mavtv debacle, then you really aren't much of an enthusiast to began with.
The wireless tech alone to cover the size of a course like Red Bud is military grade stuff. Covering an RC car track the size of the Pro Circuit team pit area is a little different than covering a course the size of Red Bud or Unadilla.
