Seems like he’s on the path to become the next Axel Hodges. Great amount talent riding a dirt bike. He just can’t seem to put the race results together. Compared to guys like Deegan, Hymas, Bennick, Ryder D.
He seems more about his social media and “likes”
Find it weird he switches from a factory team to a factory supported team halfway through a season when most contracts run through LLs…. Could it be results?
I hope the kid proves me wrong I really do. He’s a good kid.

Gonna go ahead and disagree.

He comes from some serious racing stock (Tim Ferry went beyond anything Mike Craig or Brian Deegan ever accomplished, for example) and I'm positive that he had every team courting him, he likely just went with the outfit that would give him the most freedom to do his own program.

And pure speed-wise he's already way faster than Hodges ever was or will be.

Evan is young, insanely fast and talented, is about as pedigreed as a young racer could hope to be (maybe Liam Everts is the only current racer with more family talent/experience on his side), and he has a very bright future in motocross racing.

I hope not. I hope he can make it in racing because I don't see him hucking them a55 big jumps and doing flips.

He won both classes he raced at 2021 Loretta Lynn's
He won two titles at 2021 Mini O's SX

2022 Wildcat LL Regional he won 5 of 6 motos he raced and both overalls to go to the ranch.

He’s had two bad races cause he was hurt and riding just to qualify for LL. Where did the “can’t get results” come from?

Isn't the Yamaha team he went to the factory amateur Yamaha team?
Star isn't the factory team in amateurs? But they use the resources from the factory 250 team and have the advantage of it being a stepping stone straight into the factory 250 ride.

Star only has so much budget plus the ferry's don't want to pack up and move to the goat farm. Seems like the program they are running now is doing just fine.

Betting on himself. As mentioned above, if he joined star he'd have to run their program. He has enough talent and the bike he's on is good enough to win in amatuers. I say hes betting on himself to put in good results through the rest of him Am career and if he does, he'll have every team in the pits lined up to offer him a factory ride in the pro's worth way more money then if he signed now.

You should listen to Anton's interview with Ferry. They very much were trying to get on at Star it just wasn't happening fast enough for him to make Loretta's. It very well could have happened. The other deal just came faster.

Never said he didn’t have the talent. Kid has it. Just missing few things imo.
As for the star deal. He tried out and they couldn’t come to terms yes. They’re also slammed full at moment.
Still no one talking about how you leave factory Husky midway through season? Mutual? Fired? That’s big question most major teams don’t let a guy go right before a national championship. Especially if he’s winning or consistent podium…

His path reminds me a lot of Vohland. He stayed back an extra year in super mini, then stayed back in 125 b/c and schoolboy while his contemporaries (read: faster riders) moved on to B or A. He also seems to have unwarranted expectations based on his last name. A lot of guys just don't make the jump to 250f well. Maybe the Yamaha will help.

I don't have a Dog in the fight, but I really don't remember a time where someone won both their classes at Loretta's on a big bike and then got so much hate for being "overrated".

Red Dog Sr. seemed pretty well liked by everyone, not sure what Lil' Red has done to be the whipping boy but he sure isn't a crowd favorite around here.

I think the brand him and Vohland rode dictated why you saw them take that path. It sounded like in Ferry's interview that was a key point of parting ways with the team.

wasn't it ciancirullo who just said LL results mean nothing? Look at cole seely or christian craig, pretty sure they weren't so hot there. Can still have a plenty successful racing career down the road. maybe good for him not to be in the meat grinder of factory team just yet.

Seemed like Star was taking their time and Ferry went with the Yamaha team he's on now, because they were guaranteeing him a bike right then. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ferry with Star shortly though. Their amateur pipeline is pretty depleted.

I really want success for this guy. His interview with Daniel Blair during the supercross season was so funny. If he makes it, he’ll for sure be a fan favorite.

Look at McGrath with one C class title and Dungey with one B class title and they both ended up with 8 championships.

whether or not they mean titles..id say there is some statistical significance.

I agree about LL results are needed for a factory ride straight from ams, but to answer you question:

Current US born AMA Champs with no LL titles, best LL results in parenthesis:

'22 250SX West champ Cristian Craig (14th Super Mini 12-15, 17th MX Lites B Mod)
'21 250SX East champ Colt Nichols (2nd in Pro Sport, 2nd in Schoolboy 1)
'16 250SX East champ Malcom Stewart (2nd 450A, 2nd 4stroke)
'14, '15 250 Motocross champ Jeremy Martin (2nd 450B stock, 4th 250B stock)
