.18 per gallon saves me $3.60 when I buy 20 gallons. If we start at $5 per gallon I’ll pay $96.50 instead of $100. Thanks a lot!

His gimmick of tax suspension is nothing more than him setting up Congress as the next target for his blame game.
He knows nobody will vote for it, on either side of the aisle.
I think even pelosi immediately came out and voiced her opposition to it.

Total state and federal taxes and fees on a gallon of CA gas is right about $1.18 per gallon. Thats about $35 per tank for each of my work tucks in taxes and fees. But we need trillion dollar infrastructure projects with borrowed money that goes on the tax payers tab because it's never enough.

Look into SB 1 that CA voters approved if I'm not mistaken it raises gas taxes as cost of living ( inflation ) rises. That's on top of the tax increase caused by inflation automatically.
And when everyone caves in and buys electric cars to save money they are not going to just say goodbye to all that revenue.
It will be collected through registrations, mileage tax, or metering of every kw used to charge a car.

It hurts...even here in Kansas. I was surprised that the fed tax is only .18 cents a gallon. Cali tax is .51 a gallon (highest in the 48). The stations say they don't make money on gas (snacks and drinks is their gravy). Wonder who's putting that other 5 bucks in their pockets?
Indiana (Red state GOP governor and both houses in state house) just announced 5 cents/per gal increase July 1.

We are higher than Cali

Effective July 1 and coupled with a 1-cent increase in the gasoline license tax, Indiana's gas taxes will total a record 80.4 cents, up from 74.4 cents in June.

Oil companies are all sitting on record profits while they continue to raise prices at the pump.

Democrats pass an anti-price gouging bill in Congress and it goes nowhere because EVERY REPUBLICAN HAS VOTED AGAINST IT.

For those that are stupid........it's like Joe telling logging companies , to go out to the desert and cut down timber for producing lumber.

Except there is no timber , and it may take a couple years for us to even approve your lease to cut down timber there if you find it.

AND......if you do find that little bit of timber?? ,........well now , we need you to accept 1/2 your profit.

Biden said , and has said multiple times throughout his entire career......he wants to destroy oil and gas.

People who voted for him......didn't understand how that kind of stupidity........ literally destroys EVERY SINGLE market on planet earth!!

With NOTHING to fall back on!! People have been screaming this shit from Day 1.......and 1/2 the country just didn't get the memo! So stupid!

It’s become apparent that over the course of his career, Joe has never able to reach an agreement with the oil companies that would allow him to receive his normal 10% fee. Thus his attempt to destroy the oil industry.
The mind-boggling thing is Trump showed the country exactly how Biden used his position of power to enrich his family and himself, but people just don't care.

It's not just Biden either, I'm sure the foreign aid kickbacks run rampant on both sides of the aisle.

Pfffffft. You really don't know anything do you?

Everyone knows the extra pennies and nickels tacked onto the gas tax lead from the gas stations through an ever more complicated Rube Goldberg-esque machine until they finally end up being deposited into the coin slot attached to Hunter's laptop.

Sheesh, educate yourself buddy!

Just saw on the news that the gas tax in California will be going up 5.6% next week. Excuse my French, but are you fucking kidding me? People are already struggling to put food on the table and have enough gas to get to work every morning and this is what California government does to help people? What do these politicians (Not just the ones here) do all day other than thinking of new and creative ways to screw us? When will people wake up? What else does it take? $67 to fill up my shitbox Ford focus after work today, but I guess that was too cheap. Let's raise it! Rant end. Carry on!

That being said, Gavin Newsom can eat all the dicks. I hate that guy.
This.

Let's also not forget that the bill they introduced to raise the fuel tax was worded like this:
Shall the state NOT enact a gas tax to raise the cost per gallon by 6 cents?"
In other words, vote "NO" if you want more taxes, "YES" if you do not want more taxes. The illiterate masses fucked themselves by voting no.
Politicians are clever, evil people.

Let’s think about this…

Gavin says he’s got a budget surplus.
California already has INSANE gas taxes.

And they need to raise it even higher?
For what?
What do they need the EXTRA MONEY FOR?
When does this end?

A budget surplus to make his administration look good on paper doesn't go very far with the people actually struggling. I cannot wait to vote him out, but you know, CA.

Who makes more money off the sale of a gallon of gas, the company selling it or the local/state/federal government?

I always thought it was interesting that the taxes aren't divided up separately in the final gas price that you pay, like any other product with the sales tax listed separately. But it does sound like the federal tax is only like 18 cents, and state taxes are about the same, aside from California. I wonder though if there are all sorts of other fees for transporting the gas across the country, and pipeline taxes and all of that mess that adds up to a big chunk of change for the government.

I don't get the breakdown on fuel prices...here is a cnnmoney article from 2008, when crude was $110/barrel. And it talks about gas prices at about $3/gallon.

https://money.cnn.com/2008/03/13/news/economy/gas_gallon/index.htm

Crude today (if my google skills are correct) is $108/barrel...but gas is over $5/gallon.

Based on the price of oil today, shouldn't fuel be closer to $3/gallon?

So are gas prices not based on the cost of a barrel of oil? Why is their no correlation between crude price and gas in 2008 vs today?

Is it more demand today, with the same amount of refining capacity?

Any ideas?

Let me tell you boys a story. Things may have changed but this is how things worked for military folks stationed overseas.

The military gave each person living off base ration booklets for use at the base gas station. When prices off base were 5/6 dollars a gallon we could buy on-base for pretty much stateside prices.

The amount of rations received was calculated by how far from base you lived and the mfg stated fuel mileage for your vehicle. It was generous and if all you did was drive back and forth to work on the base...it was enough. Sightseeing etc, quickly burned through your rations so you had to buy expensive off base fuel.

In this country TODAY. If every working person was issued a gas ration credit card based on the formula I stated above...that limited pump price for getting back and forth to work (if you want to cruise around then you'll run out of rations and pay full price). Say, ration price $1.75 a gal...even if regular price is $6.00.

I'm not a smart man but I got rations for my hot rod Maverick at 13mpg and then drove a shit box mini that got 50mpg back and forth to work. I never ran out.

Now, a lot of folks might call this socialism but when a hard working american has to eat ramen and cheap bologna cause he can't afford the gouging at the pump...I don't mind the label fellas.

How exactly can the sitting president raise or lower the price of gas? I don't think it is possible. A vast majority of Americans use gas prices as a barometer for the competency of the current president. If it was possible, every sitting president would make it a top priority to keep the prices as low as possible to help with reelection. I suspect that this issue is far more complex than anybody realizes. On the one hand, we want minimal government when it comes to personal freedom yet complain when the government doesn't step in when it affects the price of a gallon of gas. We can't have it both ways. Just my opinion.

The government “stepped in” by openly trying to destroy an entire industry and choking our supply then pointing the finger in another direction when the repercussions start showing up.

My uncle has been CEO of a handful of energy companies, Double Eagle, Westport Resources, Burlington Resources, and served on the board of a couple others (Enron), and he told me over the phone the other day that the prices now absolutely have nothing to do with supply and demand, nor the war in Ukraine. It's a straight money grab by an industry that has us by the balls and is looking at a future where without diversification, they will die. Drilling new wells would absolutely not be in their best interests.

He laughed at the notion that people get all worked up over what the current administration has to do with prices. My side this, their side that... without full on market regulation, we are going to keep getting what we are getting.

No sir, I humbly disagree. I know that narrative is out there...I've heard it. The whole "price of gasoline" isn't a red or blue problem. As long as the petroleum industry buys influence from BOTH sides...the loser will always be the consumer. Oil is basically a monopoly. Sure, different companies but all in bed together to set the highest price possible. When was the last time you saw the Texaco station .40 cents cheaper than the Phillips 66 across the street?

A shortage of oil in other parts of the world should have ZERO effect in the states. We produce plenty. The problem is that we are allowing OUR oil to be exported to highly inflated overseas markets. That's your free market economy at work. Folks want less govt control and free reign on commerce. $6.00 a gallon is the result...freedom really isn't free.

Nobody is saying there aren’t several factors at play. The point is this administration is doing nothing to help, quite the opposite. It’s no secret they’re out to destroy the oil industry. They’re open about it.

The answer you are looking for is in your statement. If Government could kill big oil, they would have by now. Short of a complete take over and nationalization of the market by the government, nothing will ever change. And that will never happen no matter who is in power.

Lmao. I bought an old Royal Mail mini van from some GI's in the barracks for $50. There was a sack of freeze plugs in the floorboard. Bad head gasket. As long as I kept the speed under 50 and stopped for a pint or two on my 18 mile drive home to let her cool off...she was ok. Get-r-done...sure...shit box...oh yeah.Wink

How awesome would it be to have it today?!

"Going to The 1st Three Nationals...in my Mini!"
Man there are so many vehicles I wish I had today. I have the tools, experience and confidence to repair restore anything. Back then...if it went haywire I traded. My old Mercury Parklane, 428 Cobra Jet would be up there. '88 Jeep Grand Wagonner LTD would be a close second. I had a 1967 Alfa Romeo Sprint Giulia in England...it was pretty sweet.

The answer you are looking for is in your statement. If Government could kill big oil, they would have by now. Short of a complete take over and nationalization of the market by the government, nothing will ever change. And that will never happen no matter who is in power.
Can and want are two different things.

Would you say the green new deal is pro or Anti oil?
