That’s a huge safety issue. They looked like they could impale someone. Terrifying, if you’re the one on a 240 pound machine that’s hauling ass and swapping.

We need more clarification before everyone grabs pitchforks and starts going after DC because RJ and Gilbert both hit “stakes”.

I don’t see a problem with the “stake” that Gilbert hit. It was plenty tall enough not to impale anyone. What’s the difference between that and the finish line frame on a supercross. We saw RV hit that years ago and no one complained? Now we have mostly plastic Acerbis track markers, of course in the absolute right scenario they could cause damage, but how often has this been an issue??

Maybe we should pad all the walls and limits the bikes to 15mph. Seems like this is the only solution to keeping everyone healthy and all the fans happy.

Edit: Dean Wilson hit the finish line frame this year and no one seems to care. They just wanted to ban footpegs instead. Jfc.

Okay so we all know that injuries in this sport are practically a given.

But we should not be reading "I landed on one of those stakes on the side of the track and it went under my armpit, through my rib cage and cut the top of my right lung."

Also to CraigCrashes...being impaled isn't the only thing that can happen from hitting a solid bar sticking out of the ground.

That is insane, how the fuck did AMA and MX Sports not do something about those? Even in our shitty races here in tiny Finland we have clear rules that no objects like that can be close to the track because of obvious safety reasons.

Amateur hour from the people responsible for this.

IDK what the exact dimensions are. Just that they are designed with safety in mind. They fold over when hit.

The wooden stakes just came to mind.

You can see what happens to the pine 1X2s after they're hit in the Gilbert still.

Problem with the stake Gilbert hit is it was metal and not break away. Anything that close to the track should be able to easily move should someone hit it with any real force. The force that the stake took and barly moved but tossed hit lm to the side could do very serious damage.

Freak accident yeah but one of those things I figured they did at a national since they use those yellow markers in the name of safty.

I've seen someone impaled on a plastic stake in a mtb dh race. Only went in a few cm (metric bitches) and not critical, just a fleshy, but in it went. So anything can and will pierce skin.
