Hey All,
I'm debating on a 2022 or waiting on a 2023 CRF250R.
Given the last gen motor had issues in it's first year (cams melting into the head), I'm curious if there are any issues with the current generation in it's first year.
For the record, I'm not disparaging the red bikes and I haven't heard/read anything.
How many hours do you have?
At what level are you riding?
What issues have you had, if any?
Thanks!

The only issue I had with my bike is the oil seal around the clutch pivot leaked oil badly around 2 hours, nothing else.

Was your bike pegged on the limiter while on its side? It doesn't take long for the pick up to be starved of oil.
The bottom line is all manufacturers occasionally ship out a problem bike. The question is what kind of help do they give when it happens? My experience with Honda is they give no support whatsoever, and I am not the first (or last) person to experience that.
The head/cam design is nearly identical to the 2018-2021 so it should have similar durability.
How many hours was on your bike ?
Did you repair it ?
Are there known changes between the two?
I have a few rev happy buddies that are over 20 hours. So far so good.
Head, cam, cylinder, piston, crank, ECU, shock, fork, clamps, linkage, frame, swingarm, clutch basket/hub/pressure plate, transmission main and counter shafts (di not check gears) and a few others.
I work for a Honda dealer and the '23 250R parts page was just added.
I own a '22 but not a ton of hours on it and I'm a slower vet rider so I don't put much stress on a bike but no issues so far.
Good to know and it seems like buying a 22 might make sense.
FWIW, I've got a 21 right now and while the shock is close to being all the way hard on compression/rebound (with a heavier spring) I love the stock suspension.
If you have a heavier spring in the rear and need to run full stiff on compression, it sounds like you need to revalve any bike you buy.
how much do you weigh?

At 19 hours I installed the XPR HC piston & cam.
The 22 head oils the cams very differently than the previous gen bike.Cams are different also.
My stock piston was in great shape .The replacement was only needed due to cam/ piston combo.
I seen no wear that was of any concern. It only took 3 seconds with the flex hone to de-glase cylinder.
Based on what i seen at 19 hours. Around 55 hours ish I will replace piston, rings & cam chain
Check crank play. Inspect cam journals ect.
I'm due for a clutch. I think rekluse has the manual plate kit for these now.
Chad at XPR says heat is the worst enemy to these motors. I'm dong 3-4 hours on oil , Oil filter every other change.& keeping an eye on coolant ect.
The air filter gets dirtier quicker Than other bikes.
We've had a wet spring so it's been ridden in heavy dirt , with deep till putting a heavy load on motor . So far so good.
.
Since then RedLine 10-30. Used it for years. A buddy is a rep & get it cheap through him. But would use it none the less.
Redline water wetter is a great product also.
Sorry to hear that
Hope you were able to recoup some and move on !
Get it you will love it !
