Cairoli hasn't had a 1-1 for two years. He has only had 7 x 1-1s in the last 7 MXGP seasons.
He didn't start riding until end of January/start of February and hasn't done many 30s by all accounts.
His last two races were Bercy and an amateur enduro in Italy last month.
Anyone genuinely expecting a 1-1 is crazy person.

1) Off the couch - at least not grinding out a training program like the regulars.
2) all the top US guys have ridden there regularly over the years and for Sexton and Craig it’s their home track. Tony first put wheels on the track last week.
3) unfamiliar with US spec production bike, not the European spec works bike with stiffer frame
Exceeded my expectations for sure.
Production frame is softer so suspension setup didnt work. He also crashed end of first moto otherway he could have been 6/6. If they could fix bike he could be top 5 even with lack of preparations.
6 months off for a guys like him is probably a bit more significant than 6 months off for a guy in his prime. He did well on that track with a bike he isn't used to.
He’s retired, on holidays and riding for fun. No matter how competitive his spirit is, no way it over takes the reluctance to push hard and take risks in that situation. Regardless he still nearly managed to go 6-6.
So good to just see Cairoli out there.
