AJ Cat's "160 foot" Video

Edited Date/Time 5/25/2022 11:48am
Is our buddy in some internet trouble again, or is it just weird angles? Definitely doesn't look like anywhere close to 160' to me, and the comments section seems to agree.
Wondering what Vital has to say. Not hating on AJ, he puts out some good content....this one just seemed odd to me.

Tomahawk used to be my home track. There was a local rider, I think it was Dustin Kendall, who would string together two jumps in that section that were not meant to be doubled at all. It was ridiculous. I have no idea how long Cat's jump is though.

I saw that in person one day. It was one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen done on a track.

I don’t know if it’s 160’ in that video, but it’s definitely a really big jump considering where that is on the track.

Ok guys we can maths. There's online calculators we can use. Here's my theory.

He launches the bike at .25 seconds in the video and lands at .27 seconds. Same at about .36-.38 in the video.

IF he was going 45MPH and had an air time of 2 seconds he went about 120ft if leaving the ground at a 25 degree angle.

IF he was going 50mph with 2 seconds of air time at a 25 degree launch that's about 133ft. 20 degree launch would be 137 feet.

Now that's super rough guestimate of "2" seconds. I'm not there with a stop watch and the video doesn't do milliseconds. What about 2.4 seconds of air time (which might be right)?

50MPH at a 25 degree launch angle with 2.4 seconds of air time would be.....159.5 feet.

Kendall was/is an animal. I don't know what he's up to these days.

160? I'm sure he loosely throws around the measurement of 6 inches too

Again I'm not hating on him, but it's also a little sketchy to me he's claiming "5th pinned" on that 125. Maybe he's running a 65 tooth rear.

At best it's 35 meters. 40 but not over that.
160 feet?😂

He has nothing to gain by lying so I would guess it’s legit.

Honestly that is my thought as well, but man it just doesn't look right. He also responded to comments saying he'd measure it with a tape and post the results. Crickets since, though he's posted other videos.

My local track has a 100ft double. Doesnt look like it on camera or even in person. But I measured it and it checks out. I never try to estimate distances on jumps. Im always way off lmao. Like an 80ft jump is like 65ft. I underestimate.

At 0:40 he starts marking it off using paces; no measuring tape involved. That's all I need to see.

If it's wrong, you've got to believe it was a "so and so says it's 160ft" or some other confusion / mistake, the guy is not gonna lie and big it up as bigger than it is when he knows people would call it out.

Even if it is/was 160ft, there'd be people say it wasn't, so no way he's gonna intentionally claim it's bigger than it is and open himself up to that on purpose. Must have been a simple mistake and it isn't, or the video is deceptive and it is.

If any of you vitards actually watch the video you can see him pacing it out with ‘3 feet’ steps. Let’s allow him some artistic license.. 120ft or 160ft either way it’s a big fucking jump and not one 99% of this forum would do

I think the table top section there is longer than the video shows us... If he wanted to convince us, he should have shown the steps from the take off point to the first part of the downside.

I don't know how far it is, but inclined to give him credit for it.

This is what 160' looks like (assuming I'm looking at the right part, never been there). Seems about right to me.

160 or not, that jump is way more gnarly than the video gives evidence for. I logged a ton of laps there and only ever heard of one guy hitting it over the years - Kendall as mentioned above.

Not sure how tall AJ is, but those looked like some liberal steps. I'm 5'11, and if I stepped like that it would have been about 4 feet.

Not saying either way, just saying.

I highly doubt that’s high on his priority list

Thanks for that, that's some good info and what I was hoping for. Sometimes video doesn't translate.
I've jumped some big stuff that looks insane in person, then you watch the video later and don't even want to show people 😂

Videos of Dustin Kendall doing it for reference. It wasn't just a flat landing back then.

I'm always amazed at the actual size of some jumps on our local tracks too. They just don't look all that big, then others feel gigantic. We camped at one of our local tracks and after we were all done riding, my son and I went out and shot some of the gaps with a range finder, and I was shocked at some of the distances. A double I would have pegged as 35-40 feet, was 65 foot. Couple tables I would have guessed at 65-70 foot, were 95-100 foot. I didn't believe the range finder so we ended up stepping it off and sure as shit the range finder was spot on. SMH

160 foot is a big ass jump. Was it really 160? From my experience, looks can be deceiving. Step it off or measure it, it is what it is.

I’ve rarely ever seen a jump be the actual distance people
Say it is lol.

Lot of people will measure bottom to bottom well that’s horse shit lol, 160 feet is a big gap, this looks nowhere near 160’ but maybe it is hard to tell for sure in video lol
