As per the title what's going on? Just received a message from a friend racing with me next weekend, local club is saying that 3 types of fox helmets will no longer be accepted at scrutineering following an ACU ruling?
Fox V3
Fox V3RS
Fox V4
Fox V3
Fox V3RS
Fox V4
I know we don’t accept dot ratings down here for racing

What a cluster fud, you would assume all this would of been done at the beginning?

The V4 was discontinued quite some time ago so if anyone is still wearing one, it might be time for an upgrade anyway...
Pinged the ACU an email for clarification as I said it was a bit off that they hadn’t announced anything officially as an organisation. Also asked for more details regarding the failed models as the original V3 was released in ‘05 so it’s a poor state of affairs if the has been an issue for that long.
Even the current shape V3 has been around for nearly 3 years, so how they’ve not been tested and are sold with an ACU approved sticker is beyond me.
Anyway, here’s the response I got from the ACU- didn’t answer any questions directly, but gives a bit more detail;
“Further to our conversations between Fox and Andy Summers, ACU Technical Consultation Off Road, and following a meeting they all participated in last week, the ACU have established that the Fox V3, V3RS and V4 Helmets have not been approved by the ACU.
These helmets should not be used at ACU events until they are tested and approved by the ACU. Fox is aware of this issue and the current position.
We hope to start the testing procedure with the ACU nominated testing house once the helmets are received from Fox.”
Anyway, I went head first into a tree going about 30 mph wearing a V3 last year. Cracked the lid, but my head is no dumber than before, thankfully. I immediately bought another one.
Is this simply a matter of failing to file the right paperwork, or something more?
