Our local radio dj here in Cape Town pulled the piss out of a Prius owner...

Lol. Our rental car for the Keys was a black Prius. Quite possibly the last fucking car I would ever buy. They're different than any car I've driven before and took awhile to figure out. It had a shift lever, drive neutral and reverse, ok simple enough but where the fuck is park ? Turns out there's a park button you push, so to go use the shifter, to stop hit the P button. This one had a beeper INSIDE the car when in reverse, and the spaceship noise outside. I don't know if it was because it was a rental but this one also made the spaceship whirring noise in drive until you hit 25mph. When you shut it off if gave your driving a report card, "good job nice steady driving", or "turn the ac down for better economy" lol. I bottomed the fuck out of it more than once getting on and off the highway, I also found out they're front wheel drive as I was spinning in the dirt a couple times lol. The only redeeming factor was 54 mpg. But we get 35+ in our non hybrid RAV4 and both said we'd of rather had a RAV or Corolla and paid for the extra gas than be seen in that yuppie shitbox.

I think that noise up to 25 is so blind people don't get their ass run over.

I knew they did it in reverse but was surprised when it did it in drive too. I guess they're all like that then ? I never noticed. They're everywhere around here. And I hit 85 in it so if some fuckwads doing 63 in the fast lane it's the driver not the car...

My youngest brother was Airborne. Made more jumps than I can count. Laid waste in the 1st Gulf War. Lives at the bottom of Pikes Peak and runs to the top for fun. Knocked his front teeth out at 6 years old and never whimpered. Drag races Hayabusa's and races enduros. Basically, a badass mofo...and he drives a Prius. Oddly enough, he doesn't take much crap about it.Silly

Most newer cars have some weird gearshift routines and the P(ark) button, don't they?

It took me forever to get used to using my BMW shifter, and it still confuses me if I drive my old Dodge Journey for a little while instead!

Do they ? The newest car we own is a 2020 RAV4, it's pretty normal. Key start and a regular shifter. We bought the non hybrid 2 wheel drive "LE" (Least Expensive ?) model. The higher end models could be different.
What's different about the Beamer ?

There's a button on the side that you have to push before it can be moved from P, and while holding the button you pull it back for D or push forward for R. You have to do either of those before moving to N, as best as I can tell!!!! And to put it in park you push a button, not move the shifter. I still get screwed up sometimes because P isn't just straight forward!

We also have a RAV4, but it's a 2021 AWD XLE. Nice car overall, but we don't quite get the mileage that you do. About 28 MPG combined, though, which is pretty good considering how well it does in the snow and that it holds quite a bit more than I thought it was going to.

Oh, and I have a 'Bimmer', not a 'Beamer'. Some old German guy pointed out to me a while back that a Bimmer is a car, a Beamer is a motorcycle!!!!

My wife's Sienna hybrid doesn't make any sound forward or reverse even when in EV mode which is only good for about 5mph and 100 yards. It has an actual gear shifter opposed to alot of new cars that have the buttons or a selector wheel for gear shifts. It is really weird to not have the engine run all the time but you get used to it. The ride with the hybrid system is better than most cars with new 8 speed transmissions ive driven. In-laws have a new Lincoln Aviator that has electronic pushbuttons to open the doors from the INSIDE! I don't know what happens if you are in there and lose power completely, I dont want to find out!

Not all e or hybrids have the noise yet but it's coming. I had to go out to Cali for work a few years ago. My rental was a Fusion hybrid. No noise but I drove it for a month all over the place and didn't use a full tank of gas. Would be sweet with prices what they are now.

I hope you are wealthy or trade every 2 years. Audi has sent more than one person to the poor house. Do your research bro.

It’s sort of an auto park brake. It works on hills, but also in stop and go traffic. It automatically engages when you come to a complete stop, then disengages as soon as you use the accelerator.

I don’t really use it very often, though. I might if I lived in a larger town with more traffic or steep hills I think.

I hate this crap. Even my gas-powered Tacoma admonishes me to "drive safely and obey all traffic laws" every time I start it up. Yeah....thanks.

I heard they only do that after they run a check on your driving record. Good record, it says, "Watch out for morons...I love you". In your case...it probably has 91...dialed...waiting to enter that last 1...and testify against you....lmaoWoohoo

I’ve noticed 3 or 4 of these in Maryland lately, then I saw a truck hauling about 8 of them yesterday

Bought my wife a 2015 Prius back when she was wrapping up medical school and doing a lot of driving with rotations, etc. I think I paid 23k new and we actually just passed the 100k mark over the weekend. I do most of the maintenance myself but the car has given us zero issues. Definitely hurts a bit less filling up these days compared to our Tacoma or F250 SuperDuty.
