There is just to much talent (harder to get wins), and speeds are so much faster (much more likely to get injured when hitting the ground)…than when MC was racing.

I don’t think we’ll ever see anyone win 13 races in a row ever again.

But I will say, if supercross continues it’s creep on the nationals…and at some point there is a 20 or 5 round series…it will change the likely hood someone could beat MC’s record…and further solidly RC’s as untouchable.

Probably because he's a teenager racing dudes with a decade of experience. He's going to mop up all these guys in the future
Yeah and think about AC. He was the golden child that won multiple races his rookie season against vets and should have gone onto great things in the 450 class. Things dont always go according to plan

Disclaimer, I get it, it didn't happen. But, I was curious to see how many times Chad Reed finished behind either James or Ricky (or both) in big bike SX. So I matched up their results on a spread sheet and it looks like he was bested 50 times by them. About 25 times each. So if one or the other didn't exist, Chad would be awfully close to McGraths record. I think that is admirable, I know both Ricky and James have more wins than him, but if roles are reversed, and say Chad never raced, I don't think it would change the outcome significantly of either Rickys or James record. So I do think, if the stars align, somebody could come close to McGrath.

I could see Jett passing the SX wins record if everything aligned. He's young enough, and like JT said on the pulp show, how much competition will he have in 6 years from now? I think someone is more likely to have that kind of dominance in the upcoming era compared to current.

I'm not trying to say jett will or even come close.
But the ama field is very thin In young guys.
There's really only 2 guys ages between 16 and 26 and that's sexton and jett. In 3 years time Anderson, mookie tomac, bacia, marv, Kenny could all be retired.
Webb ac and plessinger will all be near 30.
Sexton would be 25 and jett 21. Both those guys could become pretty dominant.

Nobody can equal McGrath or Glover’s records. For me it comes down to 2 stroke vs not 2 stroke. In my mind they are singularly focused and the closest you can get to a racing machine. The only things that keep the lawn mowers they are racing today from being street legal is EPA emissions certification, lights, tires, and brakes.

If you won on a 2 stroke, if you won on a 500, you are the epitome of what racing is. Today’s series, fine, it’s all we have because of politics.

The fact that in modern races, only the top six riders can stay on the lead lap on machines that are more approachable and easy to ride is very problematic.

McGrath’s and Glover’s records should stand apart from whatever is happening today.

Check out the number of times Emig and Windham placed second in a race or series. You will blush…

Ricky/Reed/Stewart all were legendary and could have made a run if the other two didn’t exist…they stole so many wins from each other…

So if never an RC? That adds a lot of wins to MC’s total. Not just Chad.
Getting rid of RC: McGrath adds 7 wins to his career ending @ 79 wins. Also adding 8th Title in 2001

Vuillemin gets 2002 SX Title

Getting rid of RC and Stewart: Reed ends up with 80 wins and 8 SX Titles (including the 03 World Title no one talks about)

Getting rid of RC and Reed: Stewart ends up with 61 wins and 5 SX Titles (including the 06 and 07 separate World SX Titles no one talks about)

Getting rid of Reed and Stewart: RC ends up with 73 wins and 6 SX Titles (including the 06 World Title)

Reed ends up being #1 in wins by 1 over the real King.

Eli Tomac has averaged 7 wins per SX season since 2017. Eli would need to continue winning at his average win-per-season rate for the next 4 years to reach Jeremy's 72 wins.

Call me crazy, but it's not impossible, depending on how many years Eli races of course. If Eli races 3-4 more years then I'd say no, someone will eventually get on a roll and prevent Eli from racking off so many wins, but let's say Eli theoretically races 5-6 more years and that average has to roughly be over/under 4.5 wins per season for the next 6 years, then I totally think it's possible 5 years from now Eli is at 68 wins or something and it's a very realistic possibility. At that point, I think Eli would race another season or two to surpass the record then retire.

Isn't Eli 29 or 30 years old right now? If he raced 6 more years that'd make him 35 or 36...you think a 36 year old can still win 4 races a season? Eli is amazing...but I don't know that that's even possible for anyone. I think MC's record is safe for another generation...Maybe Jett will be even better on the 450 and clean up on it?

I think eli securely passes Steward for 2nd overall though. which is crazy, because I've always thought of him more as an outdoor guy..

Lets assume Eli wins out this season. He’ll be 25 wins away. Eli is arguably in his athletic prime and looks better than ever on blue, so let’s say he averages his current win rate the next 3 years. He’ll be 4 wins away from MC. You think 4 years from now he’ll be too washed up to win 4 mains?

I wouldn't say "washed up"...just "tired". How many top level pros (with a resume similar to his) have survived the grind to 30 years old? And of those that did (Reed is the only one I can think), how many were winning races past 30? How many were winning four races a year past 30?

I'm a huge Eli fan...so I'm not knocking him at all...but father time is undefeated...so the odds aren't really in his favor.

Maybe if he tried to go Supercross only, he could keep enough in the tank to stay motivated to keep it going at his level for several more years...the grind is real though...

Time will tell. Obviously the law of averages doesn't always go to plan, and you indeed have to factor in fatigue into the equation, injuries also play a part. The only point I was trying to make was that based on averages, it's not just possible Eli reaches 72, it's likely. With that being said, anything can happen in this sport and nothing is guaranteed so I'm not saying he will, but he most definitely can. There's a lot of vitards saying it's impossible and I just wanted to explain it in a way that's realistic.
