When I bought my 2021 Kx 250 Kawasaki called me directly about my purchase. Get ahold of them directly and explain the situation.

Kawasaki will do nothing unless the dealership has a pattern. You pay for the license to sell the brand. They will apologize and essentially tell you to take it up with the dealership or kick rocks.

Edit:It isn't right, but they leave the decision to the dealership.

Picked up my brand new SR from my local Kawasaki dealer and after I loaded the bike up I noticed how worn the rear tire was. The service manager agreed with me that it was a little more worn more than normal. He advised they do have to test ride all bikes prior to delivery. They gave me half off dealer cost on my next rear tire. I understand test riding but they where obviously jerking around on the bike on asphalt. Just ruined my new bike experience. Then when taking the bike apart to install my bend of handlebars I found the lower handlebar bushing were smashed from improper installation. Looks to me to be over torqued. I purchased new Xtrig bushings from Rocky Mountain for $30 as I needed them sooner than later for my upcoming riding trip to Florida. I then installed some Raptor titanium footpegs and notice the left footpeg pin was missing the washer before the cotter pin. Not a big deal just another item messed up on my new bike. What are your thoughts on the test riding by the Kawasaki dealership? Is this mandatory by Kawi? The bike comes with zero warranty. Anybody else's new SR bikes coming from the dealer with setup issues? I'm trying to get past the the tire, bushings, and washer but it just ruined my new bike experience. Waiting for a Kawasaki dealership review to come in the mail...
Does anyone know if you can find the total run hours on the bike in the ECU? Is that data stored? I do have the Kawi KX FI tool but I have not found engine hours in there. It all so looks like you can add and adjust maps but you can’t see the stock map in the bike. My friend has a non SR and he wanted to see the map compared to his stock 450.

You are going to get an email from Kawasaki about your purchase. I bought 3 KX's last year and received an email asking about each purchase. Its a pretty extensive questionnaire. Asking you about bike performance, buying decisions, riding frequency to dealer experience.

You will have an opportunity to share every detail of your purchase.

That's shithouse form from the dealer.

The tyre doesn't just look like it was ridden on asphalt...it looks like it was lit up on asphalt.

Update***** I stopped by the dealership last night. They did end up making it right. They ordered me a new rear tire, and all other parts needed. I chose to install the tire myself as I do not trust anyone else besides myself to work on my bikes. My new bike experience was ruined but all damages have been fixed. Thank you for everyone's input.

My dealer never installed the black rubber cones that sit on the silver flatter bar you pictured under the bars. How did you remove that portion of the clamp? Mine move but cant seem to see how they slip out to access the bolt holding the bar clamps to the top triple clamp. I learned this when I went to adjust the position of the handlebars I got the top portion off there’s little black rubber dampers then there’s the yellow medium larger dampers and I got the metal black round portions that hold the bar in place but cant seem remove metal silver portion under that that which will allow access to the bolt holding bar clamp to triple clamp.
Thanks in advance.

they just slide out once you remove the top clamp and lift the bars. It could be that the small black dampers are fouling it up. Mine came without the larger clear dampers and was a bit jacked also.

I just picked up my SR last week and thankfully did NOT have this experience and I am very sorry OP had to deal with it. The incredible excitement of picking up this bike should have NOT been shredded to disappointment by them. I am glad they made it right for you and enjoy the ride!

No, they do not come with an hour meter. At least none that I see on mine.

I agree with Zycki11 they can do better. That should be a free rear tire and replacement at minimum.
I’ve always requested bikes in the crate. I don’t need any shmo even starting it. I’ve found some interesting things (tearing it down before assembling it) like plastic chips in the airboot, metal shavings in the intake. Barely a drop of grease on any bearings. I’ve seen new bikes getting the Eli smoke show in the dealer parking lot. Half off a new tire? Garbage.

Thanks. I got them to slide so far then seems it needs some force. Didnt want to force em out. Will take another run at em tomorrow.

I bought a new 2019 YZ450FX and the tire looked exactly like that. Dealer said “Yamaha required we rode each bike before we sell it”…seemed fishy…but whatever…(Karl Malone Powersports in Provo, UT if anyone is wondering…they’ve also go dealerships in SLC and Heber City).

I bought a new 2021 YZ450FX from a different dealer…rear tire looked like it had never been touched. No mention of the Yamaha requirement ride each bike.

Needless to say…I’m never going back to the first dealer.

Purchased my '22 YZ 450 a few months ago from Chaparral Motorsports in Riverside as I wanted to support the dealers involved in SX/MX. I drove 90 minutes instead of buying from my local 15 min away dealership. Paid $800 more at Chaparral.

When the rep rolled the bike from out back...the front fender was wobbly loose, front # plate was lose, greasey hand prints all over the frame and plastics, and come to find out 2 weeks later when my bike wouldn't start, the rubber band battery strap had not been installed. Yes this ruined my new bike buzz.

The bike was supposed to be on the show room floor, nice and shiny and when I arrived to pick up the bike, they said the bike was in the back ready to go.

When I spoke with the general manager a second time to report the missing batter strap, he response was "how do I get rid of you."

Never buying anything from Chaparral again. Lesson learned.

I actually saw a few new bikes like that @ Malone before I went to Honda World. I asked why it looked joy ridden, got similar answer to you and I was like, “nope”.

And like you, bike looked unridden from HW. They warm it up, check fluids and a brief run through the gears for pdi.

Funny thing my tire still looked better than the above after 10hrs ON THE TRACK. Someone definitely spun it up for fuckery.

Chaparral is the worst dealership I’ve ever seen. Crap service, crap prices and most of the employees know nothing. Yet people flock there to overpay for stuff. They used to be great when they were on the other side of the freeway..

When I picked up my new 18 kx250f it had just freshly rained that morning and what do you know, mud slung up under the fenders. I said what the hell is this? He said we have to run them through the gears and he took it up the wet grass and mud the pulled it out front for me to pick up. The pure ignorance or lack of care is what pisses me off. We spend big money on new bikes. I purchased a few bikes from this dealer because he was always the cheapest but the service department was an absolute joke.

Thanks man these things will not slide out. I was able to remove the black top and bottom parts that holds the bars in place-and i can see the silver portion-that i cant “slide out” and removed all the dampers but the silver piece will not slide out… You are able to slide in and out with extreme ease? Mine go about inch either direction then just lock and wont slide thru 🤯

Unfortunately, just like with car dealerships you have to set really clear expectations. When I buy a new car or truck, I usually order it or find one "incoming" and don't want the dealer to even remove the plastic from the seats or stickers from the windows.....and for sure don't want them washing it. Only whats required for PDI which isn't much. It takes me hours to get that stuff off, but I can do it right and not an hourly kid who likely isn't concerned about my vehicle as I am. Same with a motorcycle. If possible, leave it in the crate or i want to be there when they assemble it to "learn".

This goes back to many threads about having relationships with dealers. Find one with the brand you like and share you are an enthusiast and want to give them business for a long time and bring more business to them too. Get to know the parts guys and actually buy parts from them. Say hi to the sales guys when you come in and meet the general manager and others. Bring donuts and coffee once in a while too. You will be amazed how far that relationship will go. Not only will they go above and beyond for you since you aren't calling 10 other shops to buy a spark plug, but they will also be there for you when you really need them....like a bike issue you cannot fix two days before a race. Take it or leave it, but these issues don't happen from reputable shops and having relationships makes it really easy to handle these mistakes if/when they happen.

Take the bars completely off. They should slide right out. Check the bolts that hold the lower bar mounts to the upper triple clamp. On mine, the bolts are recessed below the surface leaving room for the silver thing to slide out. I'm just making guesses at this point, as once you get the bars off and upper bar clamp, they should slide out. For example, when I was assembling mine, I needed to hold the silver parts in place, or they would fall out on their own.

Thanks. I totally understand how guys feel about other people not taking care of it respecting their stuff. I have learned the Hard Way to not trust others especially when it comes to your bikes. You guys must remember that others rarely take care of your stuff the way you would. I guess that can often start at the day of purchase also.

Thanks. I remived the bars and the black portion that cradle lower curve of bar. I found the silver slide ins were tightened so much by dealer they were just bent enough not to slide with out a slight tap. So I was able to get them out, then I put them in upside down tightened everything with a little bit of force to straighten them back. Now they slide in an out perfect Only to uncover after staring at the left neck of the frame weld has pitting and Overall horrifying weld job I don’t even know what to do about this

The black near the weld will clean off. I would have to say the weld looks normal.

NORMAL?! I’ve never seen a weld like that on ANY of my bikes. And if I ever laid a weld like that down it would get ground out and re welded….

That’s not normal.
