I understand that the purpose of the 250 class is to kind of “groom” riders for the 450 class (which in reality isn’t happening with the Craig’s, JMarts, Nicoletti’s, Friese’s etc of the group) however do you honestly see more than a few of the current 250 guys actually making mains in the 450 class in the future?
Same system works for SX.
We have 46 450 entries for Daytona this weekend. 46. There aren’t enough good riders are the elite level that we’re about to just auto sign up for the main event. We need more riders to develop on 250s and eventually fill all stages of the 450 class, from winners to night show bubble guys. Cut the developmental class in half and we will have less making it to the 450s.
Think of the 250s like an under card fight. It’s never the main course anyhow.
F it! I guess I’m goin’ to Millville this summer. I gotta get me some Martin-Moto-time. Period!

And the coasts were absolutely built as a developmental class. It was meant for riders to learn how a lesser series worked while giving teams and brands more exposure and champ opportunities. There’s a reason they race SX futures on 250s and not 450s.
And I'm not disputing that the 250 class was designed as a development class; I disputing the reason it was split into coasts.
Either way, it's hard to argue it's still a proper development class when you have guys like Craig and J Mart racing the class into their late 20's and early 30's.
