If Ryder D can get to pro level speed in 12 years of racing, can a 20 year old get to pro level speed by 32?

One of the great aspects of this sport is that anyone can come from anywhere and become the next champion…. It is becoming less likely with all the training facilities and starting at such young ages. Some people just have a natural ability when they throw a leg over a bike. All the hard work and money can’t overcome someone with a gifted
Natural ability.

I will also say with money yes it's possible.

Someone 20-32 is going to have bills to pay.

So if someone had the money to not work, hire a dietitian, live at a training facility full time, buy the highest end equipment, ect. Then I definitely think it would be possible. The problem is that isn't real life for 99.9% of people.

That’s why I,m working 20+ hr days 7 days a week. This cancelled del and being stuck with it sucks. This is the 1st day off since 12-27, phone calls all day yet. Try to make a buck out here is tough. In aprox 3 weeks I,m done. Get my knee fixed I blew the cartridge out in dec, hurts like hell everyday. No stroker crank for the 125 just porting. a practice bike is still needed. I thought I had a 1 hr 04 lined up, he just sold it. Anyway I,m going to get my body healed up, pretty destroyed from driving this Serbian junk. Then it,s 40 expert , 125 class and 50+. Not sure if I will b healed by 4-30 for a LL qualifier. 50 + and 125c not going to LL . I think it would help to get some sponsor help. The 40a is to cover expenses will b tough to get a top 3. Same deal try to win the 1st moto just 1 at a time. Millville I,m dropping down to 55b, 50b and 125 class. I Love the track and the Huge trophies. Who knows if I can get my Cardio in excellent shape. Maybe 45b , hit some fair races there fun and they hv whoops big advantage for me. I was a prodigy basketball star kinda of messed up not taking the scholarships . Now I,m pretty old and it’s the same but opposite. A young person dominating d1 adults to a old man beating kids. Haha I just hope my sprint speed Doesn’t fade quick that would suck.

Start by scouting talent outside of MX. Superior athletes dominate stick and ball sports due to 1) low cost of entry and 2) near universal access. Motorized racing has a very limited talent pool, meaning only those with the financial means and interest participate. If MX was as accessible as basketball, no rider today would have a professional contract. It’s simple statistics.

So, yes, there are 20 year olds who X could dominate. The challenge is finding one who fits the bill.

Stick and ball sports r expensive too. All my basketball team mates went to expensive basketball camps. I left town and worked for farmers. I threw a vertical of 58 to 73 in and ran a 100 in 10 flat with no training. So when the season started my athletic ability was still enough compared to my team mates that where a lot better than b4. After a few practices I,m 4 levels above them.I lived and breathed bb during the season. I didn’t touch a ball out of season. Extreme trigger muscles r great for quickness but not for endurance. Retired Packer players hv a warehouse that trains very young kids body’s to redeveloped into trigger muscle body’s. They do see improvement but they will never hv a extreme trigger muscle body. You get that from genetics my Mom is athletic , in Holland she sprinted for cover when she heard a war plane. I was 3 weeks ove due, you get traits of your Mother then. My dad is very quick also. Do you think Bruce Lee would win in mx ? A team mate who’s dad is a judge played for the badgers football. He was nothing as an athlete, i smoked him 6 days a week in practice easily. Badgers wanted me for bb and football also, I didn’t even play football. But it’s a easy sport. They couldn’t win a game there was no way I would play for a loosing team

Jeff Matiasevich didn’t even start riding until he was 12 and was a Factory Kawasaki guy at 17.

Jeremy McGrath didn’t start racing until he was 15 years old.

Weston Piek is another one…
Weston raced his entire life, just kept getting better and better year after year

Interesting pole results. I'd have thought most people remember how easy it is to pick up something new as a kid vs trying when you're an adult.

Watching adults who clearly never played sport, threw a ball, went skiing or rode bikes getting into it later is either funny or scary most of the time!
You just need to not worry about injury. I raced mx as a kid and was pretty good. I started snowboarding at 42 and within 2 years was better than 95% of young people. And that was after a broken ankle and shoulder blowout with surgery. I just refuse to let that stuff slow me down.

Love the question, I think it's proven as possible but the likelihood decreases because as many pointed out the true race of life is hitting in full swing at 20. Moto I think at pro level requires such a high level of commitment that most peoles lives can't contribute the time, kids under parental provision can but not generally young adults going on there own, I do believe we've yet to see the true level of talent the Sport may have because of the financial and iminent health risks the sport brings, many potential "greats" never even touched a bike.

I'll agree with you 100%. I started at the same time MC did and we met up at Loretta Lynn's in the C class. He was clearly faster than me, but not by a whole lot. Still, he was better than anyone I had ever raced against.

He was only getting started, though. The next year, I got lapped by Damon Bradshaw at the regional qualifier and he went around me like I wasn't even in his way. Trust me, he was a lot faster than MC was 8 months prior.

Somehow MC made the leap to being the fastest SX racer in the world and it was only because of his God-given talent. Otherwise, he would have ended up like me, commenting on Vital in my PJs. Talent finds a way to the top.

91 Lamson was faster than MC in some races, but MC still beat him by taking chances and treading the needle. My 1st Mx bike I bought when I was 23. My 1st race was at 24 125 A packed gate of 47. I won the 1st moto. I hardly rode that yr because of my const job we flew home for 3 days off. The yr b4 I rode quite a bit on my 3 days off. My girlfriend ate a lot of my time up. I plan on doing the same thing thing at 55. I don’t care about the overall just the moto win. The 125 class with 12-17 yr olds will b tough. That’s the current 125 expert class

How did you race 125A for your first race?? Where I’m from you can’t just “choose” to race the A class
Step 1, after deciphering what he writes, take .125% of it as gospel

Lol I didn’t read that until you pointed it out. Good stuff! I had a neighbor who told me a ran a 5 minute mile in workboots in high school to show up the track kids. He did put his cigarette out first though.

Now the 100 meter is believable as that’s a a full .42 seconds off the world record from Usain Bolt. holy crap.
