Any one else notice Jett Lawrence having just “Jett” written on the back? I thought rule book didn’t allow that?
And who was the last rider to run a nickname/first name on the back of a jersey?

I only know of MC?

Last name only

Can you imagine him getting DQ'd for a Jersey infringement. The white book says Last name at shoulder height with specific dimensions.

A reprimand will suffice.

I'm sure

They did same to Pastrami when he did the whole sideways thing

10 bucks says they'll be selling those Jett jerseys soon

That picture was taken during press day (Friday). I’m betting that was just to promote his new merch drop on the same day. Can’t find a pic from last night but I’m betting it said Lawrence. Could be wrong…

Edit: he had Jett on there last night as well.

I can't see the Jersey printers and the race team not being aware of the Jersey rules / requirements. Maybe it is allowed as of 2021/22.

I got warned before a heat race once in supercross by an AMA official because my chest protector didn’t have my name/number on it. Luckily we had some N-Style numbers in the tool box and they let me race the LCQ with that. Mine was due to being a broke privateer

It’s Jett. He can do whatever he wants apparently.

I got told to leave the start gate at Washougal because I never had a collared shirt. When I told the dude we are broke peasants from South Africa trying to live the dream they let it slide. Parts Unlimited stepped up and supplied us with some clothes for the rest of the season.

They only inspect helmets at tech, and wasn't tech being done virtually due to protocols for a while? Either way, if I remember right, they only check helmets and jerseys are honor system, making it easy to slip one offs in.

Now they'll watch more

and Fox will sell more Smile

I was told at Unadilla last year during qualifying that I needed a collared shirt if my rider made the motos. Fortunately, Brad at FXR had one that was only one size too small. I was surprised that the rider I was helping seemed to have no idea since he’s regularly in the motos.

RC rocked this jersey I have in Atlanta 2005. DV also did it for a bit before him too but to my knowledge RC in 2005 was the last to do it with a nickname

I brought that uo in the race thread.

It's not allowed. It needs to be your last name.

From the 2022 Supercross rulebook:

It would be pretty ridiculous to get penalized for it, but I suppose if you're in the title hunt teams will look for everything and anything.

Edit: I know McGrath, Carmichael, Pastrana all had jerseys with just initials back in the day. Pastrana had 199 sideways. I'm not sure why the rules changed, but that was part of it.

You would think that with the amount of money at stake his agent and Alpinestars would've have looked into that.

I think it looks cool, but it's something they need to look into for the remaining rounds.

I would hate for him to lose points over something so simple and stupid because a team decided to protest him over the improper identification on his jersey.

The bike has numbers and timing and scoring has transponders, but we'll penalize you because the back of your jersey said Jett and not Lawrence. I mean, how ridiculous would that be?

I’d be surprised to ever see the Lawrence brothers, especially Jett, get even a slap on the hand for doing something wrong.

Rules are rules and he should get something for it, but he won’t.

Someone should mention it to Jett's agent or the Alpine Rep and get their take on it.

History has shown the AMA will not fine or punish the elite in the sport.. they will punish and fine the mid to lower riders…

also all the FXR jersey's last night were illegal. (Gold foil) Can only you shiny foil name & numbers at the last round each year. Normally they just tell you the first time and any other offense will be dealt with.

The NFL has similar rules about shoes since those are sometimes on personal deals. The rule book says cleats have to have a certain color mix, but some players have worn illegal cleats and had the fine built into the sponsor deal. If the brand sees benefit in paying the fines then they’ll just break the rule and pay the price for the extra attention.

Something similar could be happening here. The AMA probably won’t Knock points off a factory rider for this kind of thing. They may charge a fine of a couple thousand dollars and A-stars may think it’s worth it for the attention.

2022 rulebook:

looks like they changed it for 2022
But according to that they weren't legal. As the outline was black on a black jersey. Must contrast from the jersey. ie white outline to contrast with the black jersey.
stupid rule in my opinion as with numbers on bikes and transponders on bikes> but they use the excuse that if it's a mud race that the back of the jersey might be only visual reference.

I know I’m getting old because I don’t understand how any bit of Jett’s gear looks good.

According to the rules it should've been outlined in white, silver, or any other color other than black.

Personally, I don't get it since gold is a contrasting color to his black jersey and that should be enough, but because it's a number made of foil it needs to have an outline.

Kind of stupid if you ask me.
