I don’t understand how cooper Webb cab win a Regional title, then sign with Yamaha and suck so bad that he helped to solidify the ‘blue pig” view. Then gets a call from RD offering him a ride on KTM, along with following KTM program. He does well for a few seasons and become ‘Mr. Racecraft” on Vital. Then he decides to blow off KTM program gets a new bike and suddenly he can’t get out of the way fast enough as he moves backwards through the pack. Suddenly, KTM is the new “blue pig”. Given this history, along with his sad 450 outdoor record, why does everyone think that he would have his pick of manufacturer?

Coop has talent at Supercross, especially when he can jump through the whoops, but he seems to be putting in the same effort and attitude as KR94.

I see Honda,s dilemma, they need a rider for 2023 until 2024 when Hunter moves up.
What do the do next year?
Kenny will leave because they will only offer peanuts and 1 year.
Who would do them well for a year, Macelrath?

In my opinion they have this guy Chase Sexton who almost has it figured out. I think Roczen is out at Honda next year and Chase is the main guy. Unless Ken takes a massive pay cut. I think chase will still be their #1 (on the track) when Jett moves up.

Anyone have any ideas on who Matthes was talking about when they were talking about an upcoming amateur with a factory ride that they think won’t do anything as a pro?

If they were doing that, it kinda sucks. Imagine what could of (or was) said about Dungey when Roger gave him a shot. He did nothing but become an All-Timer. No one but Roger and Ryan’s father thought he’d ever amount to anything and I’m sure there were some who were angry that Dunge got “their” ride.

If Jett is truly generational he will be 450 next year. “Legends” don’t spend 4 years in the lites class
You are correct. Three years in the 250s is what a superstar rider should max out at. RV2.

If he does not get hurt, I think Jett is the next superstar. His riding technique shows it.

He’ll be moving up right when a bunch of guys are retiring too. Shaping up to go on a serious run.

I'd love to see Hunter on a HRC 450 for a few east coast rounds. Throttle control, poise, patience and amazing technique.

I think you’re right, IF Chase wins a few more this year.

That might be a good idea.

Barring 28 axing himself or having a mechanical, and Mosiman being out there, it appears to be unlikely that Hunter can get the West title.

Let him have a go on the 450, with No pressure, and get a feel for it.

He's 23, as far as I know, so he's not a ''kid'. Though, we've seen riders in the last few years being ( in Rider years - like Dog years) , considerably older before they went up to 450s; Such as Zacho and Ferrandis, that have gone onto 450 success. If he shows promise on a 450, IF Roczen leaves Honda, they'd have good set up with Sexton fully into his 450 straps, and Hunter - mirroring the Roczen / Sexton set up they've had.

As a side note : To me , Sexton and the Lawrence's styles are so similar, it's remarkable. Sexton really could go onto great things, with a bit of luck. The weight of expectations from so, so many, on Jett especially, may very well hinder him, though, I really hope I'm wrong on that .

I kinda wish the riders and factories would have tryouts. That way both are signing what they believe to be their best fit. Also, if only 'open' cc and 'strokes' were allowed. It would be so cool to see different cc out there, to 'fit' the rider.

HRC… hypothetically speaking..

Kenny retires. Hunter being older moves up for 450 seat time. Gives him a year to find his groove and prove himself. Gives him a Year on a factory bike and also show other teams what he can do While Jett defends a 250 title 1 more year.

450- Hunter Lawrence and Chase Sexton
250 - Chance Hymas and Jett Lawrence

They do what they can now. Usually new contracts are in place before old ones expire and technically riders are violating contracts if they ride a different bike in a “tryout”. I know it happens but they aren’t going to advertise it by holding official tryouts. There are no unknown Bob Hannahs out riding around the desert in this time now. Any amateur on their radar will be under contract.

Reynolds.

Injured, underprepared, wasn’t going to go well. And I guess crashing out at press confirms that. Hopefully he can string a run together of no injuries and get some speed/confidence back

Thanks Mav, I forgot that MCR is SX only.

Ya, but they have been kicking around the idea of doing the outdoors, if they sign Martin who is obviously a 2 time 250 outdoor champ at a good price....which they could get with his run of luck lately. Why not take the gamble? Let him run 250s again and move to the 450 for the outdoors.. After all they supported Keefer for 2 races not to long ago😉! Martin and another big name like say J Cooper, Craig, or whoever else doesn't get a factory ride when the musical chairs ends would be a good pick up imo. J Mart on one coast, Vince on the other, and whoever else they sign does the whole series on a 450.

If your kawi why would you replace one incredibly talented rider who has the speed to win races but also gets injured so frequently he will probably not win a championship with a younger version of the same? I dont see forkner on kawi 450. Infact if he wins no championships this year i say he stays 250 & tries to iron out the weaknesses & increase his worth in 450 by a 250 championship.
I dont see kenny going back to KTM, after how there golden child dropped them for Suzuki it didnt go down well at all esp with Rodger & if you burn that bridge its over. Plus with Kennys health struggles & age would they take him over a younger rider they can work with?
As for Martin, i’m still not sure he goes 450 next year. If he gets another injury then he stays 250.
I think ferandis would be a good fit at Gas Gas. So i hope they add a second 450 rider.
Wilson has been mentioned as retiring at end of season but i think he has been a decent solid second 450 rider. If he finishes top 10 in points & Malcolm finishes top 5 thats all you need from him. But mayb they want to give second spot to Hampshire. Either way Deano would be a big hole to fill. Cool kid!!
If I were a team manager I wouldn't sign AC or Forkner unless it was a low salary and big bonus incentives. Especially Austin. Both are amazing riders but cannot stay healthy for a season to save their lives. Both remind me of Pastrana, especially AC because of the talent and body type. All the talent in the world and just make dumb moves. Granted they're not jumping out of planes without parachutes, doing the X Games, trying stupid 150 foot jumps at the test track and crash to ruin their season. But they have a hard time keeping it on 2 wheels. If I was Kawi I'd keep Anderson and try to get Dylan. Solid team right there.

AC and Forkner both dont deserve the 450 Kawi ride.

If I'm calling the shots at Kawi my biggest priority would be to have Anderson nailed for the next year or 2. I would sign both AC and Austin at a low base salary with big contract bonuses. They have both proven on multiple occasions they can't stay healthy for a whole series, let alone a year.

Honda with Chase, Dylan, the Lawerence bros, and Justin Cooper would be a pretty good team.

So Craig is moving up and I imagine J Coop is too. What about Colt Nichols? What will Kenny's plans be? Marv's plans? Hampshire? If Wilson retires who will get that ride? Will GasGas get a second rider? Is Beta going to field a team of 2 250 riders and 2 450 riders? Going to be a very interesting off season.

I think Marv is out after this year at KTM. He hasn't done much but get a good start and go backwards. We don't know what's going on behind closed doors (Kenny) and maybe he has an injury he's not talking about. But if a Supercross only contract is what he wants, Moto Concepts isn't a bad place to do that.

McElrath would be at the bottom of the list, they would go grab one of the fast 250 guys before him. He hasn't done much in the last 3 years. I'd grab J Coop, RJ, Colt, or obviously Craig before I would even consider getting him. Good rider but he's not at the Factory Honda level.

I live on the ‘future’ side of the dateline, and it’s only Friday. Where the hell are you living?
