Back in October I smashed three fingers on my clutch hand to bits by holding the bars all the way to the ground. Riding again now and have been considering handguards but I'm not sure how much the MX style help with ground impact?

I see a lot of you have been running hand guards a long time and just wondered what your thoughts on it were?

How do yall feel about handguards in motocross? I thought it looked dumb until I needed them one day. Now I am thinking of getting some.
Many a pro has had their season ended early because they were too cool for handguards.

I've run the Acerbis X-Force for about the last 6-7 years. I literally raced one time (no joke) without them and took a rock directly to the knuckle of my middle finger. They have survived many crashes and it's nice to be able to screw on the extensions when it's really cold or muddy. Yes, they will break in a big crash but if that happens they are the least of my worries.

The X-Force are the best looking to me...
But as far as surviving crashes, I wasn't nearly as lucky as you... I got tired of breaking the mounts and buying new handguards.

Feel like less of a jackass for wasting 50 bucks that will snap off the first time they hit dirt..

How many of y’all are running these style of handguards in tight woods? I’ve always hated bark busters… it’s been interesting to see the top off road racers in the US transition away from bark busters… you notice, the guys in Europe NEVER ran bark busters. Someone told me once there was some sort of FIM rule against them, but I’ve never confirmed it.

These were the best moto style handguards ever made. It’s such a shame that Acerbis quit making them… I’ve yet to find a other that I like as much.

I drilled mine out in the 90’s like the factory bikes 🤣

Same! Renthal white handguards with sticker removed (couldn’t clash with the PT bars)...Still run this same pair on my modern KX450, have only had to replace the black plastic mounts once or twice (pretty cool they’re replaceable and haven’t changed design in quite a while).

I run them in the tight single track of Colorado, I use the extra piece they give to give a little extra protection. Also a little fyi, if you want to run a Renthal R-36 handle bar they do not accept wrap around bark busters so the flags are the only thing that will work.

I run them too in tight woods and for me it keeps me from smashing my hands and gives a lot more protection to all of my controls. There’s no perfect setup but I’ve been happy overall with the full wrap setup.
