I am having thoughts about flipping a 125 into a pond but do not want to do any serious motor damage or electrical damage(bent rod, ruined electrical etc.) when backflipping a bike you’re usually wide open until you land, but I feel like landing on the gas into the water would immediately hydrolock it but it’s also kind of hard to not land on the gas. just wanna hear some thoughts on this, it’s ok if you think i’m retarded lol

Ever hear of Seafoam, put a little in your gas tank.
Also some clear RTV on your carb vents.
And grease your linkage with BelRay waterproof grease.
Don’t let off till you ride it out!

You'll fill the whole motor with water, running or not. Once the pipe and intake go under that water is gonna go everywhere it can. Sounds like fun to do, but either buy a donor or plan on a full teardown afterwards.

And you are in Michigan. If you are true Mafia you need to do it in MArch into a slushy pond.

We backflipped the same bike (93 YZ250) into my pond 5 times in the same day. Hit the water wide open every time. Maybe we got lucky, but we just pulled the spark plug and pumped all the water out of the top end, got the oily to the right height if any water entered the bottom end between hits. Completely flushed the entire bike at the end of the day. Far as I know it still runs 🤷🏻‍♂️

Like I said, we may have gotten lucky. I think it’s just most important to change out fluids after and to make sure not try and fire up the engine if the crankcase is full.

Depends on how muddy the water is, if the water is dirty the piston and cylinder will get messed up quickly. If it's nice clear water, you just gotta pull the sparkplug and WD-40 it between runs. I've seen 2 different 4 strokes get static locked and just need the oil changed. Seen another one that required a full rebuild with a new head, cylinder, and cams. On another note, the amount of oil it takes to get all the moisture out of a swamped bike is crazy.

i’m on a new gen ktm 125 so it might be a little more risky especially for how broke i am at the moment but i might just have to, risk is worth the reward in my opinion, social media views will be insane.

Believe it or not, in 10th grade I accidently rode my friend's KDX80 into the sewage pond at the local town dump. Nastiest, most disgusting memory of my life. Worst thing is that he made me go back in and fish it out

I worked for a guy commercial fishing in Alaska. “Set-netting” off the beach. So we had a whole shop and stuff. Some dude sunk his drift net boat and said we could salvage it. Had several 2 stroke outboards on it that were upside down in the salt water for several weeks. We hung them up in the shop and and flushed everything with fresh water. Pulled the plugs and turned over the engine several thousand times (cheap teenager labor) and sprayed the ever loving dog shit out of it with PB blaster and WD40 in the cylinders. Took apart every electrical connection and let it dry for a couple days. Put fresh plugs in and to my amazement is started right up and ran perfect for the rest of the summer. Probably still runs honestly.

I drowned a KX250 wide open in a river. I was out of control, jumped off of it and grabbed the throttle wide open as it went under.

Pushed it out, upturned it and removed the spark plug, kicked it over a dozen times, dried the plug and went on my merry way. I raced that bike for the rest of the year without problem.

I opened this thread expecting the posting date to be from around 20 years ago. I was wrong.

If i was "broke", this is the last thing i would consider doing. But hey, that's just me. I work way too hard for the toys sitting in my garage.

Unless you plan on holding the bike wide open as it sinks I would imagine it would be fine. As soon as you hit the water you'll likely fly off the bike and it will take a few seconds for the bike to sink.

Please record and post Smile

Just hit the kill switch once you are in. Lake up here as an annual water skip hole, as long as the sleds are shut down before going under they are fine

Pastrana or Windham or someone posted a video of them trying to get a 3 wheeler over a pond. They drowned it probably 5 times in a row and it started right up after kicking and draining the water out. I wouldn't have believed if I didn't see the video (at work so I can't search YouTube right now).
