I say it's the cookie cutter tracks that make the racing boring. I've mentioned in other threads. It's like watching gymnastics anymore....all about precision. Everyone is practicing all week long on clone tracks.
Yeah, Josh Hill brought up a great point recently that the main events would be much better with fewer dudes. Imagine if we just had the top 10 guys...even with a last place start, you have a shot at winning.
Once I have the data, I am going to see if supercross finishes have gotten more start dependent over the last 20 years. It seems so.
If the track designers wont build challenging tracks with multiple jump combinations then the whoops are all they have to separate the guys. With that said the track builders should stick to keeping the whoops close together where the guys cannot jump and they have to skim them. Or spread them out so they are jumpers and the guys can't skim. This in between is getting guys hurt and the whoops are breaking down so bad they become one lined.
Maybe its time for a new track builder with new ideas. In 2009 some retired riders designed tracks for supercross and it was awesome. Those tracks made for some good racing and fun to watch.

There are no surprises.
It's become holeshot-cross.
So you have to be precise (I'm assuming your talking about rhythm timing, speed, etc) but the tracks are cookie cutter?...not really understanding the connection.

Clearly you missed last round. Hole shot didn't mean shit. Cianciarulo grabbed the hole shot and ended up 12th.

I'm saying mix it up with some surprises that can't be practiced to death so it makes for more interesting racing.

The whoops are the only place "clean" passing occurs regularly.
The author wrote."........at what point does the difficulty of the whoops go from separating the talented from the slightly less talented and become a roulette wheel of potential doom?"
The track designers have been giving the riders such a long run at the whoops, that's what makes them dangerous. The first whoop needs to be right out of the corner to keep the speeds slower.
I'd chalk that opinion up as the SX equivalent of "wokeness", and it upsets me that more than one person thinks like the author. After years of watching Amsoil AX whoops be bigger than SX whoops, this take is laughable. It's been 2 weeks, and the dirt has been unseasonably soft due to prior weather. Chill down.
