I know this is hindsight but why didn't guys like Hampshire or Forkner race West? IMO the only true contenders once Jett went out were Colt and Craig, so we are down to 1 top guy and then some other decent guys like Hammaker, Hunter, Shimoda, Mosiman, etc. Seems like it would have been a great chance at a championship for either of the 2 names I listed.

If either one is injured then sorry, I didn't hear that.

Don't get me wrong, any of the guys I listed above could win the title, but I think most would agree this thing is now Craig's to lose.

East was always going to be more talented 1-10 this year but with Jett and colt getting hurt it took some of the top heavy hitters out of west. AF needed more time after his subpar outdoor season I’m sure.

Forkner had a pretty good get off shortly before the season opener.

Hampshire is Husky’s top 250 prospect and got the new rockstar edition very late…like around 3-4 weeks ago. They’re still developing and working on the race package for him…so him and the team seemed to have chosen East coast.

I think Hunter will have his say this year before the seasons over. I agree its in Craigs hands but i he could have one bad race and its done. I see Hunter just being ultra consistent.

East coast isn't stacked either but if these 4 stay healthy Jett, Forkner, RJ, Jmart it should be some fun racing.

250 classes needs to be combined, and open to everyone with the only way of getting kicked out is if you win lets say 2 or 3 titles.

On paper the lineup was strong though, especially since you can't ignore Jalek and Colt. Nobody knew they would crash out in A1 obviously.
We had one champ and both runner ups from last year. And 7 out of the 10 top 5 finishers from last year. Doesn't sound that weak to me.

At this point, I’m thinking the East Region will be the same snore-fest as the West, with Jett taking over Christian’s role. J-Mart might get lucky and win a race or two, but after a decade of failing to win a 250 SX title, I don’t see why it would happen this year against a more seasoned Jett. Forkner and RJ? They’re in the same boat as J-Mart, but without the outdoor championships that prove they can hold it together for an entire season.

Careful. Calling the west weak could force Christian Craig to respond on Twitter

It will be interesting to see how Jett handles all these expectations. People are giving him the title already, all the TV time on the coast he isn't even racing, we'll see if it puts a little fire in his competitors.

As for Hunter, what's up with his starts? Spend some time with Kenny and Chase for some pointers, he needs to start up front to put some pressure on Craig. He's shown in the past he's not the greatest under stress, but leave him get comfortable and there's no touching him.

I agree that at this point might as well combine 250 class, but my vote would be you win a title you can defend it one year then you move up. I think this futures stuff is good for kids to learn now that the 250 class isn't really a reginal series to learn.

It would be easy to blame the bike for the starts, but Vince doesn’t appear to have any problems ripping holeshots.

If there is a round with no whoops or only a short pad then we’ll have some racing. Until then Craig has this in the bag, his speed compared to everyone else in those sections makes it so his contenders have to put in perfect laps every time to even have a chance.

Totally agree, that was very obvious at oakland.

He could sweep if every round has big whoops.

I would really like to see a chase format in 250's.

6 West Coast Races - Results in a very de-emphasized title.
6 East Coast Races - Results in a very de-emphasized title.
5 Championship run offs of East vs. West to close the year - This is the coveted title for the likes of CC and Jett.....

I believe you get the best of all worlds. A format that doesn't cause lost rides and less jobs and allows young riders to learn and grow and get some seat time.

It’s not Craig his fault or problem when the other guys can’t ride whoops. That’s part of SX and everybody got a whole off season to work on it.

No one said it’s a problem, it a huge benefit, just pointing out the obvious compared to his competition. I'm sure if some of his counterparts are in the class until 30 they will have great whoop speed. (Not being serious, I know his history).

The narative of MX/SX: Attrition

This hasn't changed for years. Not sure why this even needs to be brought up.

East has way more depth than the west does.

Craig can spank Hunter on any day. If Moisman could stay off the ground he would be the only threat to Craig and would be a lock for 2nd in points. Hunter is a 3rd or 4th place guy if Moisman dont go down.

No, but J-Mart has had 10 years on factory bikes to pull off this title. If he hasn’t done it up to this point, I can’t see why this year would be any different. Jett showed phenomenal speed last year in SX and proved last summer that he can hold it together long enough to bring home a #1 plate. I certainly think it will come down to those two, but I’m giving the nod to Jett even though I think that bike-wise he will be at a performance deficit.
Just my opinion.
