Redmoto has an oversized tank that fits the stock shrouds. They may have one that fits the RX shrouds too but so does Honda.

Update on my messed up head/cams. Engine is torn down most of the way. The tech can find nothing wrong. Only thing left to check might be plugged oil screen, but the oil doesn't seem to have any debris in it so it seems unlikely. Plastic oil pump gear looks fine. There is oil in the passages, and none of the passages are plugged just lots of damage on the cams and head that look like it didn't get enough oil. I don't even want to fix it unless I can figure out what caused the problem. No point in dropping $1k+ to fix it just to have it go bad again, and I don't want to fit it and dump it on someone to have it blow up on them 5 hours later either.

Also Honda told the dealer they won't cover anything for any reason.

I would sell it as-is to someone. They can fix it to their standards and assume the risk. Obviously this will be reflected in the sale price, but at least they know what they are getting, you are being honest, and you can rest easy with a fresh bike. I would push Honda and the dealer to give you a new bike at a discount.

Anyone going to buy the electric coolant pump from XPR? Probably cheaper than an exhaust, but will (likely) add more power (and maybe reliability) than an exhaust. It's funny, if one was trying to maximize power for $, you'd probably first go ignition, then electric water pump, and finally exhaust.

They won’t even give me a discount on parts to fix it. I am not going to ask for a discount on another bike that might have the same issue and a manufacturer that doesn’t stand behind their product. The saying goes “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me”. I am done with Honda. I won’t even buy their oil now, and I liked it in 2 stroke gear boxes.

How long did you have the bike time wise before it blew up?

How long did you have the bike time wise before it blew up?
No I have not tried to call Honda. Bike has 18 hours on it but it started acting up around 15 hours. I have been riding in the woods. It hasn’t even been on a track, and I don’t ride that fast. No excuse to have problems at this point.

Damn that sucks man. Can’t believe they won’t help in any way. Have to figure out if you can get more out of it by selling as is. Parting out or fixing and selling. Parting out could maybe get you the most $$$ but it’s a pain in the ass.

I would 100% call honda direct. Sometimes dealer really don't try to hard when it comes to warranty stuff.

Unless the dealer was lying Honda told them nothing is covered once it leaves the dealer.

I would work directly with Honda. I would also find a new dealership to work with after that.

For me I would just buy the RedMoto 300cc kit and the ECU maps. I race age based classes off-road.This kit dramatically changed my 19RX. That bike had NO bottom end before the kit. After there was a big increase in power and revved high like the stocker. Price was $1K including getting the ECU flashed and all shipping.

Clearly the dealer isn't pushing to have this covered. The dealer is the bridge between you and the OEM. Sounds like they didn't even mention it to Honda.

Dealers have more pull with the OEMs than you think.
Well this is the second dealer to talk to Honda for me with the same result. I had heard Honda never covers anything before I bought the bike, but I trusted Honda to not make junk.

Again. Call and deal with Honda direct. Talking to a second dealer you didn't buy the bike from isn't going to get you anywhere. These people have zero interest in helping you. It's easier for them to just turn you away and pull the no warranty card.

If Honda tells you no, then you have your final answer.

There have been plenty of stories on here about people asking for help directly from the OEM and actually getting somewhere.

I found a number that worked and got a different story than from my dealer. One thing the rep said was that without finding a cause of the damage that could be linked to a manufacturing defect they might blame it on me. Of course the damage eliminates a chance of finding if the cam/head was out of spec or if something was left in the engine during assembly and went through and started the sequence of failure. They opened a case and said they would look into it further.

One thing that was interesting was that when I called in the system automatically knew every new Honda I had bought in the last couple of years. Maybe that will help my case.

What do you guys think of the stock clutch so far? I haven’t rode the bike yet so no idea lol.

But I have exclusively ran Rekluse clutches in all my bikes for 5 years now and love them. But they aren’t available yet.

Considered a Hinson as they are available, but have never ran one.

No I have not tried to call Honda. Bike has 18 hours on it but it started acting up around 15 hours. I have been riding in the woods. It hasn’t even been on a track, and I don’t ride that fast. No excuse to have problems at this point.
wait....it started having issues at 15 hours ...what issues?

But I have exclusively ran Rekluse clutches in all my bikes for 5 years now and love them. But they aren’t available yet.

Considered a Hinson as they are available, but have never ran one.
I’ve been really impressed with the stock clutch. For whatever reason I don’t abuse it as bad as I did on my Yamaha but 10 hours in on mostly sand tracks and it’s super fresh and grabby still.
