125 2T and 250 2T shouldn't be lumped together. We need a true 125 class. They are different animals.

There is no 35+ class at LL, they did away with it after 2015.

Everyone complaining is acting like they were going to win whatever class they were in. There are 40 guys on the gate, its hard for some people to hear but some people have to be in the back of the pack. We can't all be winners. Theres is almost 2 classes EVERYONE qualifies for. If you can't win either of them you weren't going to win. Of you're good enough to qualify the go and hope for the best

I’ve raced Loretta’s several times and only live 50 miles away. It has got so big they might do well to separate the vets into their own week. Even add a 60 class for old buzzards like me and possibly a few vintage classes.

It has zero to do with this. I would be nowhere near the front but a pro taking a spot on the gate that could be mine or another regular guys is the problem. It has nothing to do with winning and everything to do with just having a fair shot at even going.

You do have a fair shot. A guy who scored pro points 15-20 years ago thats the same age as you has classes to race in. If you sign up for that class, get after it,. If not, there are multiple classes you can race where prior pros are not allowed to compete. Help me understand how this is a problem?

Once a pro always a pro and there are not multiple other classes either.

I'm over it at this point if they actually fix something then great. I'm to a point of acceptance that every time I age into a class they are going to change it to allow the pros or eliminate the class altogether. Myself and a lot of other guys would just like 1 honest shot of actually getting there.

There’s a huge difference in being fast enough to get a pro license and the actual speed it takes to top 20 a Moto and earn a national points.

Why doesn’t the former pro sign up for another class and “get after it”?

In my opinion it seems like a majority of people who never turned “ Pro” hold it at a higher standard than the ones who did have that credential. There is about 5 different levels of “ Pro” For myself who has qualified for a bunch of nationals and has 1 SX point, I always felt like a fish out of water compared to who I considered “ Pro “. Clearly as stated by others you can’t make everyone happy. Once a pro always a pro does not hold any weight here.
I’ll also add I can totally understand the thought process of everyone who Thinks Ex “ Pros” should not be allowed to race.

Let's not talk about that. Then the age card comes out and they turn into feeble old men lol..

The handful of fast guys complaining will make it in other classes n get to ride the ranch one way or another anyway. The rest that are whining either wouldn't try or couldn't make it if they did try.

The "fish out of water" feel is the same feeling the non-pro vet riders feel lining up with guys that have had pro cards

Because that "pro" is signing up for a class he is allowed to race and it's a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. If you want it to be easier, sandbag the C class at chicken licks raceway. There are plenty of classes the pros cannot race, including the one this thread was made for. I cannot understand why this is such an issue.

How old are you? How do you not have an "honest shot"? Go fast enough to be one of the best 40 riders in the nation for your class. It doesn't matter how fast you were when you were 20, it matters how fast you are this year. If you aren't good enough, don't have the time, finances, or talent.....than do the best you can at other events and Loretta's is not for you.

What about the guys that are faster than you, but cannot afford a new 450, or maybe can't afford the $10,000+ it costs to go to Loretta's? Should you not be able to race because they can't?

So what I'm gathering is most of you guys think that myself and others who were once pros are more badass than we give ourselves credit?? The more that I hear " he was a pro" the more I feel like I was once a Tomac or Roczen. The reality is guys that couldn't score points and were just there are not next level fast. Quit making it like we are cheating because we chased our dreams when we could. I have a few friends who never were pro but ride A locally to have guys to race with and they get screwed by this rule. There are guys like myself who have jobs and families that hold us back from training and riding as much as needed to run with current pros, which is what open pro and +25 are at Lorettas. Hell I know 2 guys that got a pro card for the first time at over 30 because it was always a dream and now they ruined their chances at Lorettas to go get 70th in times at an outdoor national. Most of you have no fucking clue about Lorettas. All I hear is "It's an amatuer event". No it's really not. Most kids there are living moto. They train at facilities and have parents who spend an insane amount of money and time to get them to that level. It use to be amateur. Not any longer. Some guys have a goal of making it there and others have goals of winning. The ones mad about this rule change have goals of winning that prestigious title that has evaded us for a lifetime. And everyone saying oh just go race a Vet race. There is not one race in the world that has the prestige that Lorettas has.

I just turned 40. I don't have a new a 450. l've got an 11 year old 350. I don't have an honest shot because with pro riders being in there they take all the spots at the regionals. I'd make the regional, been a handful of times when I tried to qualify and then it's the same thing. You show up and there are about 8 or so guys at least there that are pro riders. It's very frustrating to all of us that just want the opportunity to go. Not to win, just to go and have the experience with our families there. A regular joe does not have a fair shot against riders that are former pros, period.

That’s my point. A “regular Joe” is likely not in the fastest 40 in the nation. The opportunity to go is earned. Race 30+ now that former pros cannot race? Why not the 35+ in prior years? I get it you want to go and if you think I’m not being understanding, I am also not fast enough to go and never was. It’s not the former pros that are the issue.

5 years... That's what these fast guys are complaining about... If you're an ex pro, racing +25 shouldn't be an issue.. If it is, because you have to race guys like Durham, then you know exactly how the other side of the fence feels..

9 years for me. Lot of difference between a 25 year old still chasing some nationals and racing every weekend and guys like myself who only race once a month and have other obligations.

I get it. However, it's only been this sportsman stuff since like 2015. Before that, what did guys do? Rode +25.

I think a way to even this up, is make all vet classes "sportsman" and have the designation of never making pro mains (or sx night show) the standard and a non current pro card. Then have a couple of the age groups remain a b/c structure..

That would put guys like you, racing guys like you.

I understand what you're saying about being put on a pedestal. However, whether you recognize it or not, you're fucking talented if you've raced outdoor nats or supercross. That talent and knowledge doesn't go away. It might get rusty, but once you spin some laps, it comes back. No, maybe not factory rider talented, but maybe you wouldve been with 1 opportunity on a satellite team with top of the line support. I've been riding 26 years, but had a few 3-4-5 year stints with no bike in that time. I ran out of talent and there was no way I could've tried to qualify for a pro anything, ever. I couldn't even be Lorettas competitive in 450B. Not for lack of effort either. There's lots of guys like me too, obviously. Don't lump me into the category of people who don't understand Lorettas either. I raced it 22 years ago. I watch every year. I came close in 2016 with a 10th at a regional, but I had nothing for the ex pros in front of me.

This is meant to be a positive post and a thumbs up to your riding ability. I can only wish I got to try and ride the rounds of outdoors you did. Just trying to help you see the other side of the fence.

You're spot on about these guys being talented and it not going away. Perfect example, local pro in my area that as far as I know never attempted a SX or National quite racing/riding altogether for at least 7 years. Bought a new bike after the long layoff and the first ride back was at a race. Gate drops and I didn't even know which way he went he was gone so quickly. Four laps later I start to catch a glimpse only because his tongue was in his spokes. Took him about two or three races after coming back and he laid the lumber to us every weekend.

Like it or not, pros have much more talent and always will. The talent never goes away, guys like me never had it and never will. Precisely why these groups need their own class.

There needs to be something in place for A riders in their 30’s. There’s a 15 year gap from 25+ to 40+. Some say just run 25+, but there’s a huge difference in the way your body feels at 25 vs 35 trying to compete at a level like that. Most of these guys have a family and are weekend warriors.

Kinda lame they changed the ruling of the class at this point when they announced the classes last year. I feel bad for the guys that started training months ago and putting everything in place to all of a sudden be left without a class. The time, effort, and sacrifice that goes into qualifying for this race is no joke.

I would be ok with a 30 A class. I don't care about racing other 30+ ex pro guys. If Alessi shows up then so be it. I just hate that my only choices now are basically with kids. I have to race locally with A kids all the time because racing Vet locally to me is not fun. Lorettas and the qualifiers were the few races I could go to and race guys like myself. I understand the B/C guys wanting a vet class without pros. I just don't see Mxsports ever adding more vet classes. They will just change the requirements every few years. They make too much money off all the C classes. I do appreciate you guys giving me more credit than I give myself.

They need to stick to the rules they make instead of changing after already posting what the classes would be. Like said above, really sucks for those that started planning the process and get the rug pulled out from under you...Also need to be transparent in the process. Did someone bend their ear or do they have statistics from local races around the US that dictate the changes?

This is bad timing on mx sports part they had class regulations already posted. Not to mention this is going to encourage more sand bagging at the local level which already rampant! And a big FU to the guys that put in the work to get there pro cards!

They posted the classes, then updated it 30 minutes later with no explanation.

It’s also not true that it doesn’t impact anyone as I’m not even close to fast enough to qualify in Pro or +25. 37 years old, Never raced a pro class even on the local level, hope to race on the weekends, work a normal job during the week, etc. Would bet that the top 5-10 finishers in the b/c class are significantly faster than I am, but they get to race because they haven’t raced in a while/or live in a place where they didn’t get bumped to the Vet A class and I don’t because I’m an “A” rider.

The rules will be whatever they want and that’s fine, but just because the rules benefit you doesn’t mean there aren’t folks that can disagree with where it leaves us at.

Oh I get it, if you look at any posts I've made about it, I've never asked for it to be a B/C class.. I've always just asked for a restructuring of the term sportsman, in which my suggestion wouldve been a benefit to you.

LLs is not for "regular Joes" and you should have figured that out when you could not get past the qualifiers. You don't have a "honest shot" but its NOT because of the former Pro riders, I cant figure out why people just want to get there, if you are going to race then race to win and if you cant then dont waste time and money trying to just get to LLs
