Some teams have been riding a replica A1 track for weeks...needless to say, this is a pretty big advantage for those with the means to do so.... Should Feld keep putting out the track layouts so far in advance???

I don’t really see it as an advantage, the track is going to shape up different at the actual event vs a practice track which is going to change how things are approached. I once read that motogp riders are within 1 second of what will be the lap record after 5 laps on a track they have never seen before. I would imagine the front running supercross riders are exactly the same, so the rider with 1000 laps on the practice track only has maybe a slight advantage for the first 5 laps of practice at the event.

For someone who really doesn't care about supercross it sure seems to get your panties in a bunch

Maybe that’s why Barcia does so good at A1?

I get what you're saying, maybe a little unfair to the privateers and co, but with stuff already being uniform sizes / gaps in supercross and how experienced they all are I think what buzz said above makes sense.

Especially when different dirt or prep are in the mix, and it all goes to shit and peg-deep by race time.

This would be stupid to do, so what happens after A1 when you practiced the layout for weeks and weeks? by your thinking wouldn't they be at a disadvantage the rest of of the season...it would be so much more beneficial to practice for the whole season and sharpen your skills accordingly ...

well... for week two you build the second track.. week 3, that track, etc... IMO.. pretty significant advantage as the season goes on... i would hate to be a privateer trying to make it into the main when all the factory guys have been practicing on a pre-made full SX mock up track of that week's race...

oh and at USA... i have zero clue who you are... but you want my attention.... feel better now Mr Cuckflufferstein?? LOL

pretty sure MTF did this in the past. Millsaps never won a 450 championship, and the other people frequently at his facility (davalos, etc.) didn't become champions because of it.

Unfair advantage, maybe. Career changing advantage, certainly not, or everyone would be doing it.

So who is at a disadvantage that already isn’t at a disadvantage…?

I think any advantage would come in the form of more comfort / less nerves rather than pure laptime speed. It's an interesting idea - and if a team is going to build a freshie to get ready for the season, why not go ahead and use the A1 design?

This has been goin' on for years. It's also a great way for them to get 'chassis set-up' dialed in for that specific race. Sure, the track...on race day...will be different. It could rain. It could have the not-too-unusual chunks of brick and other strange ingredients in it...all sorts of factors come into play.

But, yes, there's a heck of an advantage to testing and practicing on the same basic lay-out as the 1st race. That's why some of the teams/riders that can afford it...do it.

Good grief....the teams that can afford to build a replica track are the factory teams. They already have an advantage.

Its definitely an advantage but theres big disadvantages to it.
Just like pala.
Yeah u know the direction of the track but all the lips and lines will be different and the way it shapes up.
Lines that are faster on your track become slower at a1.
You dial the practice track it becomes so automated in your head. Then it's harder to relearn the differences.

Like others have said, if you're gonna build a fresh track for testing, WHY NOT?

They build a replica track. But they only change the track a couple times a year. It’s not like they build replicas every week.

is it still an advantage if the test track is made mostly out of lime?

It's really not as big an advantage as it used to be, everything is formulaic now. Each track has a couple spec triples, whoops that are perfectly uniform and evenly spaced, spec on-off jumps, a start straight, a spec finish line jump, spec wall jump, etc. You may get one unique rhythm lane per track, but even those jumps are built to spec and everyone knows the rhythm at track walk.

The manufacturers should be renting out or supplying supercross tracks for privateers that are riding their bikes to train on for atleast 4-6 weeks leading up to A1

I hate to burst your bubble, but many of the privateers do ride at the same training facilities (minus baker factory, goat farm, and tomac's) as the factory guys and have access to any replica tracks.

There's a thousand examples of this, no big deal, never has been. Last season Moto sandbox build a Daytona SX track. Factory Roczen got 4th that race and privateer Chiz got 17th , which is pretty close to their average finish, so did having the replica track actually yield them any advantage?

Just to be fair, they didn’t build a replica track. They build a section with a few lanes out of sand with some whoops and jumps to add to the sx practice track which is just a normal sx practice track and we call it the “Daytona section”

Also I’m not arguing at all. I don’t think building a replica track has much if any advantage. Different dirt. Different track builder. Sometimes they change from whats on the map. So I agree on that. Just letting you know they don’t build a replica Daytona track. Just a small section we add to the sx track

Spending millions to race team, bikes and riders... moving dirt and building replicas should be too much for them.

Okay Chiz you're right I knowingly exaggerated a little, but as the local John Deere guy, having some association with that build (providing the Deere equipment) I am proud of that "Daytona Section". I'm not hating on the sandbox or anybody else that does a replica track/section as I personally think they're sick, just don't believe there's necesarilly an advantage come race day

Chiz knows more than just about anyone on this board in this aspect. When you watch an event and look at the track maps a lot changes. Atleast when I paid attention back in 2016 or so. Maybe things are emulated more now. It’s not like they have the same dirt same spacing etc. Some privateers only ride Moto during the week let alone a replica track. So I wouldn’t say there worse off riding one or better off now a days.
