MX Vice has learnt that Romain Febvre suffered a broken tibia at the 2021 Paris Supercross, not a broken femur or fibula as reported elsewhere. Febvre crashed out of the second main in Paris on Saturday, November 27, and had a horrific impact – he flew off of his KX450-SR over the finish jump whilst running in second place. Although the off-season is just beginning now, this is not brilliant timing with the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship less than three months away. 85 days remain before the Grand Prix of Great Britain, which will be the opening round of that campaign.

How did he crash? He scrubbed too hard?

He messed up that rythym before the jump, got bucked and appeared to whiskey throttle off the face. He was sideways and off balance, had to bail.

Bummer that this happened. He appeared to be dialed in and having fun and was making good lap times.

Hope for 100% recovery. I’m a new fan.

Yeah , he was flat out rippin' with some really good lap times. He was pushing the limits on that bike and the track and getting a little sketchy. Hope he heals up in time to at least get some training in before round #1 of MXGP.

Looked like he over jumped the “on” portion of the step-on step-off before the triple causing him to case the step-off and sending him buck-a-buck off the face. What a wild ride and glad it wasn’t worse!

mxbars IG has good video about it. Went too long on table then got kicked next jump and went into triple without control of bike like FMX superman trick. Next riders dont really slow down even on waved yellows so good that he or his bike was not in racingline. Did also google how long will tibia break take to recover and answer was 3-6 months..

Just saw that MXBars video. That reinforces to me how stupid the on-off sections are. If you jump it clean there’s nothing to gain, and no point in the obstacle even being there. Get it wrong, however, and you’re looking at a bad crash rather than losing time. They’re the most pointless, and potentially dangerous part of any track IMO.

Huge bummer. I hope he’s okay and heals up.

Less than 90 days for the kickoff. But he should be ok in 6 weeks. Not a clever movement but he has enough time to recover.

Latest update:

The following is a press release from the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team:

Romain Febvre underwent successful surgery today on the right leg he broke at the Paris Supercross; the factory Kawasaki rider will rest for a few weeks before starting preparation for the 2022 season.

Together with several other leading MXGP riders Romain Febvre entered his last race of the season on Saturday; it was a unique opportunity to celebrate his second place in the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship in front of the French fans. Feeling comfortable on the track laid out in the Paris la Defense Arena Romain posted the third fastest lap time, ahead of the US riders, in the Superpole to confirm his fastest time from Friday practice. Fifth in the first of the three races Romain made a great start in the second sprint and was a challenging second behind Marvin Musquin when he crashed on the finish jump. Evacuated by the medical service and later transferred to the hospital Ambroise Pare at Boulogne Billancourt, where he had further examinations, Romain underwent surgery this morning; Professors Bernard Hollier-Larousse and Victoire Bouveau treated a double fracture of the tibia and fibula of the right leg. Following successful surgery, the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team can communicate the actual situation as rumours have continued to appear on social media since yesterday.

Wow, so he overjumped the on-off and couldn't hop the single? Thanks for posting, Mav and heal up Romain.

What a bummer; such a fan of Febvre. Got to be driving the French fans insane to build a track for a one-off race that (unintentionally) takes down their lead MXGP championship contender. Couple of years ago he broke his femur in one of the last MXGPs in a weird crash. Tough as nails.
