Rim Strips or Duct Tape?

Which do you guys prefer? I have been running duct tape on my rims forever and recently went back to rim strips because I was tired of the residue duct tape leaves behind. One tire change interval and that strip was completely destroyed. Is there any better tape to use than duct tape?

Gorilla tape is a high quality duct tape that works much better than the cheap tape that's out there now. Still leaves residue but not as much.

I had to do a trail side flaty repair and the rim band was broken, used electrical tape and it held up for the rest of the trip which was eight more days and somewhere between 60 and 100 miles a day in Mexico, everything from high speed roads to super rude rocky hill climbs, held up just fine. the rear tire being nearly bald was a bigger problem.

Another vote for Gorilla. That stuff is gnarly.

British guy here chipping in... A wheel builder here swears by rim tape as it permits for trapped moisture and condensation to escape the rim, rather than sit within it and corrode both the nipples and rim internals.

Granted we have some gross conditions, but just my / his 2 pence

Rim strips on all my builds. I really don’t like tape on rims…

Gorilla tape is what I use. Just wondering if there’s anything better. I guess rim strips are fine if you replace them 1-2 tire changes.

Rim strip unless I'm building the wheel then use gorilla tape. It will last as long as the rim will. When its a blank rim ill lay down 3 layers of gorilla tape and open up every spoke hole in the tape. I have yet to have the tape go bad before the rim.

Tried tape, wasn’t a fan of the residue. So Rim strips for me.
