Picked up my new '22 CRF250R last Friday and have ridden it at a few different places including my buddies farm with an old school GP track, woods loops, and an afternoon at Grear MX here in Ohio. I am a slow Vet rider 6'2" and 195 lbs and usually ride a '21 KTM 450 and 350 and '21 KTM 300 TPI bike and did have a 21 CRF450WE for a short time. I also have a buddy with a new '22 YZ250F and we have gone back and forth between the CRF250 and YZ250F. I include a lot of detailed ride feedback information on the '22 CRF250R (and all the bikes I ride) in the description section of the ride videos I post here...

My thoughts on the '22 CRF250R:
The '22 CRF250R is super fun to ride with almost 125 like agility and impressive cornering. Makes even a regular rider feel like a hero in the corners. The updated engine is much more Vet friendly with a broad powerband and decent low to mid power so you no longer have to rev it to the moon to go fast. The "just feel right" ergos, agile handling, and responsive power make for perhaps the most "fun to ride" 250F available today.

22 YZ250F vs '22 CRF250R comparison: There is no clear winner and each has a very different feel....
Suspension plushness and low to mid roll on torque YZ250F holds the edge. 125 like agility and lightweight feel that is fun to ride, “just feel right” ergos, and impressive cornering with decent low to mid power and long pull CRF wins.

A few pics.....

Only page talking about the recommended oil. G4N or HP4S 10W30 are fine.

Thanks! I assume the 1.05 versus 1.08 Liter is oil filter change versus no oil filter change?

For those of you that use Pro Honda Oil, are you running the full synthetic? semi? GN4?

I just bought a new 450, and a mate of mine wants the 250 on the Ride Red program through the same dealer. We have been told 2 weeks. The bikes that were here for the launch and magazines to test were air freighted here. So not much longer.

I've had a deposit on mine since the press release. My ship date got delayed to 8/30 and now delayed to 9/14. Anyone know how long the shipping takes? Is the ship date from Japan? I've been without a bike for about a month and quickly losing my mind.

(this in Sweden), I ordered one right after it was announced, first promise was end of August, then mid September, now early October... you know what, at this point, I'm happy if I receive it before Christmas, I will have a very fresh '22 in 22.

That's a bummer dude. I would have kept my stupid Suzuki longer if I knew there was going to be so many delays.

They are in the US. I got mine yesterday but the dealer the next town over had theirs a week earlier. I am pretty sure the ship date you were given was the day it was available at the Honda distributor. Ours is in Chicago which is about three hours from here. Being in OK I assume yours is somewhere in Texas. Your dealer should know that. My ship date was 9/7 then 9/2 then the bike was at dealer 9/9.

Kid has around 5 hours on it now. Raves about the light weight and cornering ability. Power equal or better than Yamaha. He is going to race it stock at a local sx tomorrow night so we'll see how it goes.

What I really want to know are the reviews after the Honeymoon phase. Once stuff breaks in or has a chance to settle.

MXA is exceptional in this regard! Results come in later but they shake those fuckers down

Yeah, 1.08L when we change the filter. Did my first oil and filter change yesterday with HP4S 10-W30, I filled about the right amount but the level is right below the top of the sight glass, I had a bit too much oil.

I just did mine and it looked too high, but I let it idle a minute and then shut down and checked a few minutes later and it was at the top hash marks.

Probably, 160lbs beginner here, I feel like the forks are a bit stiff for me. Maybe a different story if you are an A or B rider.

I just picked mine up this afternoon, I can't get my race sag set without having a crazy amount of static. is that still the old rule 20-40mm of static? I might get springs before I ride it.

Ride it first. The springs break in a lot. It’s fine to set your sag before you ride it, but even more important to do it after you break it in. Unless you’re way over or under 165, I’d just break it in and then dial in the sag. If I recall my Yamaha sag went from 105 to 115 during break in.

That’s what I wasn’t sure about if everything just needs to get broke in. To keep my static somewhere close I’m at 95mm with 40mm of static. I ordered the one step softer springs but maybe I’ll ride it first. It sure does feel light putting it on a stand.

I think you can run static lower without any issues. The problem comes when the static is too little (spring rate too low). Then the bike wants to rebound too hard if you unload the rear.

Does the air filter cage have a backfire screen?

The backfire screen is inside the intake, can be removed easily with a Philips screw. I personally did not, I like to have the peace of mind of my brand new bike won't catch on fire or may have huge debris in the engine.

Yes, but the Twin Air powerflow kit removes it if you want it gone.
