For an brand as Triumph you would think about Superbike, because then they can compete in the Isle of Man TT (and other high profile British Road Races), British Superbike, AMA Superbike, World Superbike, ... It also fits their Moto2 program they are running at the moment. Or something as AMA Flat Track, the crowd in the stands at those races are almost all bikers themselves so they are the crowd you wanna get to your dealers. And battling between Harley, Indian and Yamaha could/would be interesting promotion wise...

But they chose to create a dirt bike...
Yea, did I here correctly that Triumph supply the engine for the Moto 2 class ? A proven engine maybe could be developed for the superbike championships

So they have a bike that RC is testing (probably not) and won't show a glimpse? The strategy to make an announcement and then wait months for a reveal leaves open the opportunity for much conjecture (as we have seen). There was about 5 threads on here that turned into mockery. Like I said, weird marketing.
Very seldom I agree with much of what you post but you’re spot on, in my opinion. The “reveal” they put out was perplexing to me. No pictures, no tech data, no release date, nothing! My excitement for it has pretty much turned to just a whatever now. I think they missed an opportunity for this to be a big deal.

Can you imagine how much more pumped we would all be with just a photo of RC putting on even a mild whip from 50 yards away on a charcoal grey "Triumph"??? It would be a gamechanger...

This is certainly a tremendous effort with high risk for Triumph. Producing a complete and competitive package, in my opinion is years away. I hope Triumph is committed to this. Just look at what it took to produce a competive sport bike (and consider that KTM started in the 50s and wasn’t competitive in the US until after what, 2013?): 1993 Daytona 1200, 1997 T595, 1999 955i (abandoned), 2000 TT600, then Daytona 600, then 2005 Daytona 650, and then… the 2006 Daytona 675 that was finally competitive. 12 years in total and three rapid generations from 2000 to 2006.

Triumph now has experience in MOTOGP’s Moto2 building race engines. I wonder how hard it would be to build a reputation in motocross building racing engines and electrics that fit other manufacturers frames until the frame and suspension could be worked out? Want something different from your Honda? Put in triumph 450 power pack.

Triumph is being raked over the coals on TT. Their financials have been posted and there is lot's of red..

The money is in the adventure bike market now, the motocross bike is just to legitimize the brand in off-road to sell more adventure bikes.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not but Internet forums are not the greatest for getting a general pulse on things. Opinions tend to be very one sided where as the general public is in the middle. I think most people are excited about the triumph.

I highly doubt triumph is too concerned with a bit a shit talking on TT or vital.

I personally can’t wait to see this bike. Any brand that wants to get into making MX bikes is welcomed by me... we need more manufactures and my hat goes off to Triunph, Beta, ETC...

Will the bike be any good? Who knows. Can’t be worse than Canondale lol.

Cannondale had an awesome product, elements are still around today. I was really hoping for a US manufacturer and totally disappointed they messed it up at the end.

I took a lap on a cannondale back then. it was the height of summer in florida and the heat coming off the frame I guess from it being an oil tank was awful.

They indeed build the engines for the Moto2 class.

@sandhills Indeed that is the only reason you can think off. R&D in Enduro/Motocross/Supercross and show that they know a thing or two about racing on dirt, so they can use it in the promotion of their dualsports and adventure bikes, making their buyers believe that they aren't too shabby.

Guys... Please you need to study the Moto2-engine stuff.

The truth is that no-one was willing/able to supply the ammount of 4-cyl 600 ccm engines for a long time. Basically Honda was begged from Dorna to support it the last time but said no more so they made a deal with 3-cyl Triumph.

That's it. The 600 ccm segment is dead & WSSP is Yamaha-cup anyway... So the Triumph was the best out of 1 contestant.

Just to be clear.

Except it has developed Triumph’s racing experience and further refined the 765. 600cc may be dead but Triumph hasn’t run a 600cc motor in almost 20 years (600 to 650 to 675). Also, they are European and while the market shrunk, there was room for Triumph. As Yamaha transitions to parallel twins, Triumph is properly positioned with twins and triples, and world class Moto2 experience.

Former world enduro champion, Paul Edmondson, did the motorcycle stunts for the new James Bond movie, No Time To Die.

I heard multiple times MoroGP commentators saying Triumph engines were a welcome change in Moto2 compared to Honda. But I had a good amount of food and Chianti, so I could be wrong
For sure, any addition is a good addition for the time it lasts

I wonder where Beta is going. TM no longer has a Factory team and if Beta's pockets aren't full of money, they are going to have a hard time

Not weird..... bad marketing..... in fact I might go so far as terrible marketing.... too much cash, and nobody with a clue on marketing in the entire building... they are blowing it, before they even start.... #anothercannondale

The KTM/Husky/gas gas setups are all good, but another version called another name…. Blah blah blah. I would think (hope) Ricky wouldn’t be involved unless it was a grass roots effort. Could be exciting but we’ll see.

If it was a repainted KTM surely it would've been released by now. In effect it'd be nothing more than a branding partnership. We'll see I guess.
