Just wondering about the shock reservoir on the swingarm though. I seem to remember it being on a frame downtube on the opposite side than the exhaust.

What you have noted, began on the 1980 model YZ's. Totally different frame design and monoshock than the earlier YZ's. The early YZ's didn't have a reservoir but aftermarket companies such as LUFT produced them to upgrade the stock monoshock suspension. The factory schrader valve is located a the rear of the shock so the reservoir must be mounted to the swingarm as it moves in essence with the action of the shock.

You been very helpful in the past with my questions about my 79 YZ, Thank you for that.
I am curious as to the mounts for the shock reservoir, specifically the clamps, did you make them or were you able to purchase them? I acquired a shock with a reservoir and need a clean way to mount it to the swingarm.
Looking at yours has me wanting to spruce mine up a bit.

The forks have racetech emulators along with the handlebar sub-tank. I made the resi straps from aluminum bar, shaped and bent around the swingarm tubing and fastened together just underneath the upper swingarm tube. The rubber plug/saddle/isolator was shaped to resi body and swingarm tube. The straps put a slight bit of pressure on the rubber to keep the resi from slipping around on the swingarm.
The forks and triples are 43mm from a 1982 YZ250 and given a "machined" look with buffing wheel and final finish with light grit emery cloth. Everything in direct bolt-on for the swap.

That's not a Luft. Luft are distinct in that they are finned for cooling. White Brothers were Gold. That looks like one off a 80s bike before the integrated reservoir. I've added Fox twin clicker reservoirs to 78, 79, and 81 Yamaha shocks with no trouble. Nice upgrade having a compression adjuster.

Never mentioned it was a LUFT. It was a clarification to a previous question about the reservoir mounting on the pre-80 models. The one pictured on my bike is a reservoir from a 1985 Honda CR500.

He's building a trick, VERY lightweight, RM Suzuki 125 right now. It's going to be one fine machine when it's done.

Love the trick Handlebar Air Reservoir set up. I did a google search and to my dismay, most of what came up was for HD Electra Glides haha. So, will you spill the beans and let us know where a set up can be purchased?
At this point I'd rather purchase than reinvent the wheel.

You might reach out to DT-1 filters or Mika Metals, the same family developed/sold the TGT bars. I doubt they have any in an attic, but you might luck out. Probably best to wait until after Loretta's, as their kids are racing there and they're crazy busy at this time.
