I don't think they would try to retain him if there was animosity.
I know AP talks very highly of the improvements on the bike but so do most riders when its the team signing your pay checks.
But I think if that were the case, Plessinger could just tell them that he doesn't really want to stay with Star Racing and wants the new KTM job, depending how adamant he was, then Star might let him leave. I don't think they would want to keep an unhappy rider.

I love a good drama story - especially when it involves Yamaha - but, I don't think AP or Star has any ill feelings. AP is probably feeling like a teenager again having all these potential suitors to choose from.
If he does it says a lot more about his attitude and level of effort he's putting in for RM KTM because he's not on THE "factory team" and the would be a slap in the face of the team he's currently on.
You know what they say "You get what you pay for."
AP signs a contract to go to KTM for 2022.
Yamaha has the ability (which is the first right of refusal) to match the offer he signed for at KTM which legally makes him have to stay at Yamaha.
Pit Row
Or is it still the number 1 team to aim to be on?
In 2023 with Cooper and Nichols moving up, Star will have one too many riders. I'm sure KTM would love to have DF14 a la place de MM25 after he retires and Husky would have expected RJ to have a championship by now and head to the big bikes.
That being said, KTM should consider to bring one Euro despite what happened last year, Vialle sounds like the ideal candidate but you have other guys like TK Olson or maybe even Jonass if he doesn't deliver this year or younger kids.
I couldn't care less about any team in particular though, so the closer the competition is the better for us as fans.
Plenty people in this thread view the ‘FRoR’ as a negative thing. But what about the positives to it??
It works like this..
Rider signs contract with Yamaha for $500k
Contract term expires so KTM show an interest and offer him $500k for a term.
But the rider has hit form, so Yamaha are really keen to keep him, so using the ‘FRoR’ Yamaha have to offer $550k to re-sign him.
BUT, KTM are still really keen to get him on board, so they offer $600k..
BUT Yamaha see that he’s a great asset to them, so they have to offer $650k to keep him.. and the negotiations continue. All the while the riders worth is increasing nicely.
A ‘FRoR’ clause is not a negative thing.
