He signed two champions that already knew how to win. He didn’t raise them.

Decosters track record for bringing up and nurturing amateur riders is horrible. It’s why TLD is breaking away from KTMs amateur system and are changing how they prepare young riders. No more Aldon and no more Roger dictating what they are going to do, the new team manager will set it all up.

in Europe they buy the best riders and they have the top 250 program

for a privateer effort its easier to build a competitive 450 as there isnt a Hp disadvantage where as in 250's its all about HP. and there isnt a lot of factory teams in the GPs

Yup. In the US they’re on a more level playing field & it shows. All the bikes are very capable of winning at the highest level with the exception of the Zuk..

The simple fact is ktm hasn’t had the best riders on 250’s for a while and that’s a big factor. Had Ferrandis been on ktm or sexton or AC I’m sure they would have some championships over here.

Hunter was on an RMZ when he took the overall in mx2 at MXDN against Osborne/Prado/etc

Don’t forget racing is in the marketing budget for these companies. KTM has simply prioritized 450 titles in the US over the past few years. The company and race team have the resources and expertise to put together a strong 250 program, but they see their effort better spent on winning big bike titles, particularly in SX. Between SX and mx there are 5 available titles in a US race season, and KTM seems to have put all of their resources into just 1.

The biggest detractor for people on the Rez is it doesn’t have e start which has no effect on its performance. If a mart can be competitive on one Jett certainly could. Hell Derek drake did pretty good on one at pala.

Just because that’s what happened doesn’t mean that’s what they intended. They just haven’t had 250 riders pan out recently. Cantrell, Drake, Moreau. None of there 250 riders have gone on to do big things with other teams so it’s not the bike imo

That’s pretty far off, they spend the most money on their amateur and 250 class than any other team.

But that’s kind of the point. Other teams chase proven 250 winners but KTM seems to focus on lesser known young riders in hopes they can’t develop a late bloomer. As mentioned, they have the budget to sign ready-to-win riders, but they don’t seem to. The 450 team has had multiple riders that were championship threats for the last few seasons. Their 250 teams have not.

They’ve had good riders it just hasn’t worked out. Webb wasn’t considered a champion threat when he signed. There is no doubt the star team is the it team right now followed by PC.With the exception of the Lawrence brothers I bet every 250 rider in the field would want to be on star right now if terms were equal. When everyone wants to be on your team it’s easier to collect talent.

I’m sure ktm will have it’s day in the 250 class

Im pretty sure there's a video back where dungey and decoster talk a lot about the KTM's design being built around supercross.
Euro MXGP KTM dont run OEM frames. There longer and designed around the MX tracks.
Hence why they handle so good overseas and they are so unstable in the US MX.

But turn to supercross and the Oem frames are more agile ands shorter
