Love to watch Bubba ride.

Worship the RC.

But David Jackson is the man we need to seek inspiration from.

I don't know the man, but fully realize that he's worked harder than i ever will.

Respect.

Mr. Jackson's a member of PRA, a local track that I'm a member of as well (Hogback some might know it as). The guy is flat amazing to watch, and can really haul the mail! He's fearless. He's a great guy as well, super nice and friendly. His son races and just moved off mini's to a big bike earlier this year and flat rips too.
I don't know if he'd be up for any sort of an interview, but if you guys come up with some questions to ask I'd certainly ask him if he'd answer a few questions... There's a race this coming weekend at the track so I'll see him up there. Certainly is inspirational.

Oh, and he's always been on a 2 stroke, up until this year!

Ebers,
Please get David to come out to the Extremity Games! ( http://www.extremitygames.com )

The Extremity Games is made for AMPUTEES to compete against each other. David would be a great addition to the games. If he does well, he will qualify for the X Games and be live on ESPN! I bet his son would be jealous. hahaha

The Extremity Games is at Baja MX in Michigan on July 11th. If he qualifies for the X Games, we are working out transportation to get the bikes out to California and back.

I can't believe nobody has said anything about the X Games in this thread! David would be one of only two competitors who are missing an arm.

Like I said, I don't know him well, but I'm sure I'll see him this weekend racing.

And I'm suprised no one else has said much, there has to be some Western New Yorkers on here that know him... makes me wonder if he doesn't talk about it... I've never asked him about it, nor do you even realize it when riding/talking to him.

I don't know, the motocross for the most part is non-AMA in the WNY area. There are 2 sanctionin bodies that run against each other, WNYMA and WNYRA. There are AMA sanctioned events in D3, but I'm not sure of what they chase. I think his son won the 250 C Mod class at the NE regional, so I'm sure they do some AMA stuff.

Truly an amazing and inspiring guy. A tribute to the sport.

Has Mr Jackson always had just one arm ?

Or did he lose the arm sometime after getting into MX ?

I came into the sport in 1995 and I can remember seeing him at the track way back then. Ebers can probably confirm, but last year at Palmyra I saw him jumping there 120' tabletop. I'm so scared to let go of the bars and pull a tear off over that thing but he was hucking it no problem.

Some of you probably seen either video or photos of Dave before but he comes from New York and I have seen him here and there the past number of years. Dave raced the High Point regional last weekend in the Masters 50 Plus class. I have to easily give this guy the badass rider of the day award. His racing with one arm on a tough High Point track was awe inspiring to say the least. I tried to figure out how he can ride like that and probably never will. I just figured I'd mention about Dave since I have seen him around and he just shows you pure dedication for the sport.

Here are a couple images:

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS WOW!

I have watched Dave race for 20 yrs. He is a cool cat. He used to be an amateur ranked trials rider before returning to mx.. And you don 't want to arm wrestle with him either. My friend raced against him in the senior class years ago and got beat. When he came in to the pits I said, that's pretty good a one armed guy beats you in motocross. Pretty soon a one legged guy is going to kick the crap out of you as well.

Here is a video of him riding
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-8Yqwq_bHU

I saw him last year racing a moto he jumped at a pretty diffcult jump (Area 51 tower jump) and a rider a moved into his line well Dave jackson was in mid air and he landed on the other rider. I think he cliped the other riders arm but he rode it out! He seems like a good sportsman he pulled of right after and help the person he landed on. Its awesome watching him ride he is very quick.

David is the man. I raced a few races he was at over the years between D34 , Broome, and what not over the years. He is AMAZING.
Watching him ride was unreal.

Matt you should do an interview with him one day.
Great job on your coverage too by the way. That was awesome.

Thanks! Yeah, I need to make the coverage better though GRRR! BTW, I'm never satisfied. Smile

Next time I see him, he's getting an interview. I thought about it at HP but yeap, obviously I did not follow thru with it. Shame on me!

All will be forgiven once we see some good footage. Grinning

Seriously though, the guy's truly inspirational. Really takes away the excuses most of us (myself at least) have. You simply have the ability to share his story and abilities with more of the world.

Maybe you can put him in touch with Ridge; get the guy a true 15 minutes of fame.

Use to be a guy in NorCal with a lost left arm like DJ that showed up on Riverfront practice nights on a KX125 in the mid '90s.

He was f'in faster than many; wasn't intimidated in a crowd or if a decent double was in front of him. Dude could jump with the best.

Wish I could remember his name.

David Jackson and those like him with limitations are inspirational for sure.

Great thread Matt.

I remember that guy too. He was super fast! He rode Mammoth one year in the 125 novice class and was up front for a while. He would clear everything at Riverfront...people would line the track to watch him. Cool stuff.

I tried the AMA for DJ's contact info and, as to no surprise, they weren't any help. She didn't seem too motivated to make any calls either; said there are "several" David Jacksons in New York. I guess all "several" of them race moto with one arm.

I asked the lady there what her responsibilities are to AMA members besides taking their money. No answer.

That guy is really amazing. You should see the body english and how he works the bike he had such control on that track with the deep ruts and braking bumps it was truly amazing to watch.
I never had the honor to ride with Dave but I've ridden with Harold Glissen many of times & it's truly amazing how they work the bikes. It's actually scary riding behind Harold at first because you think he's going to fall over but after a few laps you realize he's totally in control & very consistent.

I have had similar experiences with Harold he is also a great rider.

Ridge I think Harold Glissens website is http://www.onlyoneinspiration.com/ you may want to talk to him about the extremity games and X, also he may (or may not) know Dave Jackson.
