How many races and titles has he won now?

Don't dismiss his contribution over the years....Davi, Dungey and now Webb

Congratulations, Carlos!

Also congratulations to Matt Winters at Star and Colt Nichols

I love Carlos’s energy. In the moto spy he seems very focused and Webb always mentions and makes a point to thank him. Good man to have in your corner.

Imagine the pressure of having to prepare a bike and one mess up on your part can cost a championship. Dude is a BOSS for sure.

Where is Carlos originally from? He's a testament that the American dream is still well alive. With KTM, he has 5 450SX and 2 450MX championship and has to be the mechanic rockstar there although he's very humble and focused - elite and no wonder why the man enlisted him to replace Goose.

Biggest difference is; Goose is from an era where the mechanic had a lot more to do with development and building the bike.
I don’t mean that as a slight to modern wrenches, it’s just that the job has evolved. No doubt Carlos has the touch though. Should be deserving of a pay rise I’d reckon.

Carlos is cool but when he shakes the pitboard with excitement, I doubt Paul can read it.

This is a bit like the 'Aldon Baker turning Champions into Champions' deal.

How hard can it be , being in the best team, with the best rider, and the biggest budget.?

Like has been said, these teams have 'motor guys' , suspension guys , and data guys.. and no shortage of them,

His hard yards have been put in to get the gig he has now, and that is as much about luck as anything else, not getting caught up with a dick for a rider, is a big help,

It does take a special type of person, no doubt, and the fact he gets to stay and be ' the guy' when new riders come in, says a lot.

I was told by IMO the best mechanic in the pits, getting a good rider is the luck of the draw.

Goose, gets pulled off the parts counter to wrench for RC because nobody else was available, now known as the greatest mechanic.

Carlos, gets a job at KTM after wrenching for Davi, gets Dungey, now he’s the greatest.

I’m willing to bet there is 15 other guys in the pits who would win titles with Webb.

MOst of the guys probably have the tech skills to turn wrenches for the top rider, but this discounts the human side of the position -- the ability to communicate all the bike issues effectively between rider and team, to get the guy putting his limbs on the line 100% confident in the hardware and structure, to be detail-oriented enough that even the smallest mistake never occurs -- that's what really makes that relationship successful.

I agree, I’m just saying, the mechanic isn’t that special, they trainer, isn’t special, the rider is special.

You can’t teach or train what lives inside a guy like Cooper Webb.

"Special" is a weird term to ascribe to a technician; I would settle on "really good at their job".

My brother Frankie is one of the greatest guys in the pits. Works 70 plus hour weeks every week. Ask any of his former riders and they will go to bat for him.He will anybody out. Definitely not afraid of hard work.

Carlos is a truly remarkable human being calm, cool & collected all the time. The most down to earth guy you will meet. KTM is pretty luck to have both those guys. Roger hand picked the crew 10 years ago to help rebuild KTM. He seems to have done a great job. Just a few titles have been added to the offices down at KTM.

The mechanics are the riders right hand man, the relationship some of the riders and mechanics have is beyond a “working” one.

Jason Anderson and Chris Loredo
Justin Brayton and Brent Duffe
Eli Tomac and Brian Kranz
Ryan Villipoto and Mike Williamson
AC and Brandon Zimmerman
Ryan Dungey and Carlos Rivera
CR22 and Ben Schiermeyer/Lars/Goose
Just to name a few...

They’re often the best friend, the life coach, the go-to person in the pits and a massive influence on why these guys are champs and being a legend on the wrenches so their rider has confidence in the machine.

70 hrs a week for 10 years? His overtime checks must be huge.Is he staying with the 25 or are they moving him to the 7???

From what a very informed source around here says...there won’t be a #7 at KTM. So, Carlos will stay with #25.

I beat Carlos for my first title when I was 15 I think and he was 20 something? I wanna say he’s 5-7 years older than me. He was just getting started at MMI when we we raced 125 B together in FTR hare scramble series. He’s the only guy at that level that I know of, probably more, that actually did the MMI route. Started at a shop as a parts guy, went to MMI, got hooked up with Davi when he was on 80s. And built from there.

The most competent , capable and experienced employee isnt the best candidate . The coachable, trainable , reliable candidate with a great attitude and work ethic is much more desirable . An experienced guy with all the knowledge and tricks of the trade are invaluable , but if he doesn’t have the people skills to work with the team he’s very expendable . I’m sure Carlos is an exceptional technician and sounds like he makes a great teammate. With that said I’m confident KTM and Cooper Webb would have accomplished everything they have to this point with any one of the other technicians in the paddock .
