I've also never been on a forum where there is so much negativity amongst each other, I'm not sure if it's related to the thumbs up/down creating a division, if it's tied to the moto community, a sign of the times, or just how people feel inside... It was cool to see the diversity, not something we have a lot of here in Utah, the world ain't so bad and people usually aren't as hatred in real life as they are on here. Cheers
This place is a lot tamer than it once was

and there was no thumby thing back then

I turned off the news...I just don't watch it any more...and I don't get on social media much anymore at all either (outside of Vital)...I now base my view of society on the world around me (my real life interactions with people), at work, the races, riding, church, grocery store, etc. etc. And I found that we aren't nearly as divided and hateful as it would appear on the news and as the social media arguments would have us believe.

Yes, we are different...racially, politically, economically...but at the end of the day we all want the same thing...to be happy. Most all of us would stop to help a stranger in need. Most all of us are good people.

We aren't a broken and divided country...the media just plays that up for ratings, and the government capitalizes on it for more power. It's a shame that so many american's base their view of society on what they see on the news and who they are arguing with on social media rather than their real life interactions.

I was at the race on saturday...the crowd (myself included) was happy for all those guys.
I did the same thing; turned the news off October 2019. Never slept better. Goodbye FOX, goodbye CNN, goodbye local guys and gals. You’re hyperbole is not missed.
Every once in a while I will do some research on topics that I think are prudent or interesting. It’s nice to form my own opinion rather than some fuckwad blowhard telling me what I should think.

Exactly! I turned the news off as soon as I realized (and it took me a while) that they were more concerned with telling me how I should feel about the facts, than they were with just reporting the facts.

Right, I’m sure you’re so woke that you don’t recognize any differences with anyone. There’s positivity in the crowd response so it’s not making news. If it was the other way around, Vital would be melting down. It just shows how media constantly shapes our views on what is important and what we should be angry about.
It's not news because that is the way that it SHOULD be. The reason that Vital would be melting down if it "was the other way around" is because that would be the way that it SHOULDN'T be. The 'news" generally reports when things aren't what they should be, for the most part. That's what makes things newsworthy most of the time.

And good moments don't outweigh when something horribly racist or xenophobic does occur. It isn't like a balancing scale where we say "Well, we can't pay attention to racism and xenophobia because we saw some instances of it not occurring too."

Sounds like the crowd at SLC was focused on the right things. That's great to hear. Hopefully we see more and more of that sort of thing in all areas of society. I don't think that the MX/SX crowd is any more likely to express racist or xenophobic views than most other sports, though, so perhaps I am being overly optimistic. I really wouldn't have been expecting the crowd to boo those guys so the fact that they didn't doesn't really strike me as news...........

I'm right about 10yrs.

Cut the cord from cable then just stopped watching regular tv altogether. Just Netflix or Disney for a move or show once and a while.

I cheered for Jo because of the sacrifices he was willing to make to race in the states.I also admire his ability to quietly improve his skills.

Today’s new is meant to divide. To foment hate. To deceive. To spread misinformation.

Example

There is literally no other way to explain how the police as a whole are being “branded” as an extension of institutional racism.

This is patently false and is in fact a straight up lie.

A discussion cannot even be had when one side believes police are hunting blacks to kill.

It’s a lie perpetuated and spread by the media.

To your point that things get highlighted when they “Shouldn’t be” ....gets reported and spread as “that’s how it is”.

It’s false reporting. Because you have a few bad cops it gets extrapolated that police are bad. Police need reform. Police departments need to be defunded.

Sorry. The news media and politicians are absolute garbage in the country.

An entire stadium of mostly white people cheering on Malcolm. Not because of the color of his skin but because of the content of his character.

That is how America as a whole is. It’s a complete lie to say otherwise and we just saw a stadium of people showcase what America is all about.

I won’t pretend to be ignorant to hate. Yes. There are hateful racist people in all walks of life. That’s not changing. People can be hateful.

But America is not a racist nation. Americans are not racist.

And police are not bad.

I do not care how many times the media tries to tell me otherwise.

Call it what you will. Racism, stereotyping, prejudices. It exists across all segments of society, from boardrooms packed with C-level to the retread shop by the tracks. Some forms are very visible, others thinly veiled. It doesn’t take a degree in English literature to read between the lines.

You don't read very well, I guess, or you are intentionally misrepresenting my views. My first post in this thread states clearly that I don't think this is an aberration.

This thread is living proof we will argue into oblivion. Give it a few more days and we’ll have people claiming the cheers were actually dog-whistle racism.

It’s not a coincidence everyone knows the names of the last 5 black people shot by the police but not one name of a white guy even though twice the amount of whites are shot by police every year.

We are being played and told a story to support a narrative that doesn’t exist in the real world. It’s done for clicks and ad revenue. It’s getting to be down right evil what’s happening in newsrooms across the world.

I am not sure what you are getting at? I don't want to misunderstand you.

I think you are stating that prejudice is pervasive in all ethnic and social groups regardless of race, color or creed. Is that close?

In the 2021 form of racism, it’s pushed by the media and democrats to divide people people by race and class so they can usher in socialism so the current power structure can continue and thus enrich themselves for decades. It’s so brutally clear it’s scary.

I’m not sure if it was mentioned in the race thread, but the crowd reaction for Malcolm’s podium should remind everyone things aren’t as bad as the news wants you to believe. It seems like every story tries to divide us nowadays but we had a French guy/Japanese kid/African-American racing in a predominantly white sport in UTAH and the crowd and industry couldn’t have been happier for each one of them. Next time you want to keep up with the “hillbilly Neanderthal” sport nonsense, remember SLC.
This 160 person data set is NOT a litmus test for racial equality in America.

Happy for Jo and Malcom, but Utah is still racist as fuck, the south is still racist as fuck, and half the people that post here are likely racist redneck idiots.

Sorry, definitely still an issue.

That’s the spirit! Everything is racist!
The genuine crowd reaction isn’t a litmus test but your narrow view of Utah, the South, and all of Vital is. Got it.

Saying that a crowd full of MX fans cheering for a rider is contrary to the news and to ACTUAL FUCKING RACISM is such a joke...c'mon. You have your head so far up your ass you think everyone is locked in arms singing "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay".

This country is the biggest racist piece of shit I've ever been to. I've been to 23 countries at this point in my life and we are hands down the most ignorant, backwards, redneck shit hole I've ever seen. And that's compared to Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, MEXICO...America is racist.

And the fact that you think 20,000 people cheering for a black athlete negates that speaks volumes in and of itself and about you.

Nice try.

Happy for Jo and Malcom, but Utah is still racist as fuck, the south is still racist as fuck, and half the people that post here are likely racist redneck idiots.

Sorry, definitely still an issue.

Narrow view? lmao.

I've spent so much time in Logan and Salt Lake for aerospace conferences...that place is racist as all fuck. Get out of here.

Texas? Racist
Alabama? Racist as fuck
Georgia? Racist

Dude, I'm not just spewing shit...I've been to all these places and heard the word nigger get uttered like it's the word fuck or shit...they just throw it around. I'm white and got called a nigger lover for listening to rap at a conference in Alabama.

You must be out of your fucking mind. Point blank.

Not sure of the people you hang out with, but damn. As a guy originally from California and moved to Florida 30 years ago, I can say I personally have never heard the “N” word uttered once with my family and friends or in the fine establishments I frequent.

I find it ironic that you post how appalling racism is, yet your posts are full of prejudice.

Anyways, the guys who got cheered are very likable people and it was well deserved. The world isn’t as bad is it seems. Bad news sells though unfortunately.

I didn't throw Florida on the list, it's a different breed. But meander on up to Mississippi or Alabama and just walk into any ol' grocery store. You're bound to hear all sorts of colorful racist language.

I’m sitting in my drill cabin on a huge pipeline project in BFE Midwest with every color and nationality but I’ll go with the white guy attending aerospace conferences as my barometer on racial issues in America. Last time I checked, raped women aren’t stoned to death in the street and gays aren’t thrown off buildings in America.

Speaking from experience is painting with a broad brush and not thinking now?

Interesting.

Look, I'd love to believe that this country isn't a racist shit hole...but it is.

I'm from Montana, place is racist as hell. Beautiful, but super racist. My family lives in Utah, Texas, Oregon, and Montana, and quite frankly, all of those places are super racist save Oregon.

I'm not trying to blow up your thread, sorry for being aggressive, but it pisses me off to no end when people are like "These guys were nice to that black fella, see, there's no racism".
